2024-01-06 00:54:27 +0000 UTCForbidden Planet from 1956 was the first science fiction film set entirely out of the Solar System and on another planet. It starred a pre Naked Gun Leslie Nielsen in a serious leading man role, and for the males in your audience, Anne Francis. It also starred one of the first robots with a personality and a real part in the story. It was also, unusual for the time, in color.

2023-12-29 16:39:46 +0000 UTCI keep forgetting about David Bowie in The Man Who Fell to Earth! Really obscure now, maybe more than my own trippy suggestion. And... Someone need to react to Conan tB for sure!
MertzRocks
2023-12-28 23:05:55 +0000 UTCMy bold suggestion is in that period too.

2023-12-28 22:59:26 +0000 UTCHahaha this won't win any polls or likely get many votes at all but here's a WEIRD, but good one: Fantastic Planet (Le Planete Sauvage) 1973 animated independent French film with a pretty trippy soundtrack. Make that REALLY trippy lol.

2023-12-28 22:57:43 +0000 UTCI’ll second Long Time’s recommendation of 70’s Scifi glory days— That brief time between 2001’s artsiness and Star Wars’ popcorn that gave us: - Logan’s Run - Rollerball - Westworld - Soylent Green - the Planet of the Apes sequels And, yes, Sleeper, if it’ll get her watching more Early Funny Woody Allen.

2023-12-28 00:35:48 +0000 UTCIt probably will be eventually, though maybe just as an extra with the theatrical cut. I've actually gone back and forth over the years as to which version I like better. I think both work for different reasons.
Bryan Tuck
2023-12-28 00:32:20 +0000 UTCNot sure if it's considered a Sci-fi film, but Rise of the Planet of the Apes would make a great reaction! The new movie is coming out next year too!

2023-12-27 20:52:14 +0000 UTCThe Sci Fi movie you need to 100% see is "The Abyss" by James Cameron. It was a film previously not available on streaming but in november, James Cameron finally rescanned his movie from the 80s into beautiful stunning 4k quality, you can get it on Amazon Prime.

2023-12-27 20:52:11 +0000 UTCThe 2021 version is on her Letterboxd though we still have the unreleased Part Two coming next year and don't believe she's seen the 1984 David Lynch version

2023-12-27 20:47:09 +0000 UTCThe Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie was such a pleasant surprise of 2023. I hope it wins the poll. For sci-fi recs off the top of my head: Ex_Machina Total Recall Dredd Starship trooper Demolition Man

2023-12-27 20:43:49 +0000 UTCI’m gonna suggest something that could be a bit controversial. Star Wars Holiday Special (1978). It is so bad! But the reaction will be gold! If you do it, I suggest having it as a collaboration with another reactor, like you’ve done with MaryCherry and Natalie Gold because it’s more fun when there are others there to make fun of it with. Just a thought.
Timothy Poeschl
2023-12-27 20:43:15 +0000 UTCAlso, one really obscure swedish sci fi film that is really good is Aniara, although only watch if you are emotionally ready to be crying by the end. 🥺

2023-12-27 20:39:48 +0000 UTCDon't remember ehich sci fi films you have seen but I would love to see the blade rinner films in the poll. Titan AE is also a childhood favourite of mine that deserves more love. Other recommendations are RoboCop, escape from new York, Terminator, the Alien movies.
Jonathan Wiking
2023-12-27 20:38:50 +0000 UTCEven as one who was alive to have seen most 1976 movies in theaters, I had to IMDb “Cannonball”. And I’ve still never heard of it. 🤷♂️ Are you certain the request wasn’t for “Cannonball Run”, which for some reason is now attracting a misguided reactor-fan wave of “nostalgia”?

2023-12-27 20:37:03 +0000 UTCAgree 100 procent
