While in hiding, Eren Jaeger conducted experiments to replicate this ability in order to plug Wall Maria. However, it wasn't until his attempt underground that he first succeeded in doing so.

Ymir learned that the hard way when we see her reflect about her backstory, 'that was the first time that I lied to myself, telling myself I never had a choice.' It's sad Ymir isn't here to witness this, but she definitely contributed to Historia's growth. Regardless if Historia's future choices seem contradictory to her character development, they'll at least be her decisions as she has taken Ymir's words, "I have no right to tell you how to live your life, so this is nothing more than a hope of mine...but I want you to live a life you are proud of" to heart and has decided to make it her mission to help people, especially those who don't feel needed. Potentially becoming queen could be a good way to do so!

Once you get to peasants is where it gets iffy unless they call themselves peasants or the peasantry. Today, the word peasant implies not only non-royalty but also the poorer citizens, sometimes also refers to the dirty farm folk of the kingdom. If you have such a division, you can also use the word Pleb or Plebeian for the citizenry/non-peasantry.
