Breaking Bad (Season 3 Ep 1) | Full Length Reaction!

And he could have done all that by taking Elliot and Gretchen's money, and been a true father and husband, instead of doing all this nonsense. Team Skyler all the way.

Saltire

Has Walt been honest with Skyler at all through all this? No. Has he respected her either? No again. Skyler is totally justified in her actions here, she is the one looking out for her family. As soon as Walt got the adrenaline rush and became "awake", all the pretence about doing all of this for his family, became BS. IF he wanted to look out for his family, he would have sucked up his pride, emasculated himself, and took Gretchen and Elliot's money for the treatment, as thats what a father, husband and provider does - not this evil. You have seen the whole show now VK, so understand I'm sure about what Walt's actions will bring on his family; but even here, we can see that he will never move from this destructive path, even if he lies to himself that he wants to "for my family".

Saltire

Yep, and as we'll see in the next few episodes, Walt brings the twins to their door, wielding a freakin' axe! Skyler still loves Walt, but she is totally justified in her actions and is the only one thinking of their family - and she'll take the hits from Walt Jr, to protect him and Holly from Heisenberg.

Saltire

"It's still all Skyler's fault". Or something. C'mon Sky, where's the compassionnnn?

AdrianF

He lied and gaslit her for a long time with absurd lies, leaving her in the dark, making her feel left out, helpless and in the end dumb. (ALL WHILST SHE WAS PREGNANT) He killed 2 people and dissolved them. He makes meth. Any sane person would want to keep their kids away from him. More understanding? Are you insane? He had his chance and he wasted it. And he didn't even tell her, she figured it out... He could've just taken the money from Elliot & Gretchen and he'd have been happy with his family, not missing his daughters birth, and all it would cost him would maybe be a bit of pride, but it is nothing compared to the losses he took on from making meth. Also, if you even have to ask yourself "Huh, maybe making meth is better than taking charity" then you have real issues. Team Skyler!

Linus Marjeta

Walter def is the wrong side. Lying and gaslighting your wife, commiting crimes (killing 2 people and dissolving them, making meth), ignoring your babys birth for a meth deal. Skyler is 100% in the right, get the kids away from him. She's even willing to let Walt Jr hate her for it just so he doesn't hate his dad...

Linus Marjeta

Yea, she's been lied to and gaslit for a long time, I wouldn't want to hear anymore of Walts dumb lies anymore after that, and hearing he makes meth, ye I'd take my kids and leave... Not going to implicate them into his bs.

Linus Marjeta

Amen to that. The amount of manipulation and gaslighting he put(s) Skylar through… She gave him PLENTY of time to hear him out and he’s the one that made the choice to break the trust in their relationship.

Brian

It always amazes me how much of a HUGE pass people usually grant Walt and how easily they come down on Skylar, who asked for none of this.

Brian

Always love hearing your opinions Vee always. Don't worry about sounding "dumb". Your breaking bad reactions are awesome, and remind me of when I was in college. I missed a few classes simply because I pulled all nighters being unable to stop breaking bad marathons. All the episodes were still new to me at the time and it was always difficult to stop at the next episode lmao

Avery

I'm hella late cause I'm just catching up but one piece of advice... don't try to read Gus. You'll be wrong everytime 😅 You'll never know what part is the mask, and what he's thinking, cause most of the time, its all internal. Thats why Gus is such an interesting character. He'd incredibly charming. You're drawn to him, just like Walt is with how professional and respectful he is, but you'll never actually know him unless he shows it lol I love how Giancarlo does that. He's always reading people, but no one can really read him unless he openly says what he's thinking. He looks almost empty talking with Walt, but that again could just be another mask. I'm sure he understands what Walt is telling him. But the magic trick you can't know what his actual plans are. I love it 😍

Lorenzo Baxter

Truly! It's more of a long plateau.... What's at the end?

MertzRocks

you know damn well you'd walk away from an explosion if you got the chance. we all would, damnit.

Great react! Walt from the start of the show is not the same Walt now. He's also very conflicted and also very proud with a large ego. Skylar is also imperfect and doesn't react the best way, but she deserves better treatment from her spouse. Divorce in the USA - laws differ from state to state, but many are "no fault divorce" meaning there doesn't have to be something that anyone did wrong. You can just say "irreconcilable differences" and file the papers. A lot more involved, but Skylar's consult with the divorce attorney showed that she did not know how divorce or family law works and she is not prepared. Also that she wanted to just get it done and over with ASAP. Unfortunately, unless the other spouse is willing to speed things up also, divorce takes a very long time and costs lots of money. Jesse is well and in recovery. At this point, Jesse has come to terms with who he is, unlike Walt.

James M

L take. They were my 2nd best characters in Breaking Bad. I love those guys. The one I adore the most is GUS!

Mr. Nobody

I see your point Vee, Walt was portrayed in the beginning as a great husband and father and he had the best interest of his family in mind all the time but in the midtime, he constantly lied to Skyler and spent more time cooking meth and things related than with his family. He could easily have taken the money from Elliott and Gretchen but he was too proud. Skyler is just trying to protect her children even if that means his son hating her. I think that there is no right or wrong side just humans making good or bad decisions.

Gabriel Berilli

I actually think they're the worst characters in all of BB. Not morally but just as characters in a show. Because they're so one-dimensional and so over-the-top cliché. They normally do a good job in the show of showing us the human side even of evil characters, hell even Tuco had more grey in him than those two. With Tuco it always seemed like it was a combination of meth addiction and bad upbringing, maybe adding a personality disorder of some kind, but you could still kind of see someone like him existing. The twins? What is remotely real about them? It doesn't even look they are addicts, they're just like that because they're like that. And the way they never talk to each other, just look at each other like cool guys and execute their plan, like what? Maybe they have some twins' intuition and know each other very well but they obviously need to formulate their plans sometimes. It's just all too much "yeah, cool bad guys, yeahh" for my taste.

Christophe Schannes

I promise you it is 100% an orange filter. It's a classic film trick to set a mood or scene or both. Albuquerque, NM is basically the same climate. The show runners very clearly wanted to differentiate NM from Mexico for that reason, and drastically. It's a style of the era of filming, but also a deliberate artistic choice. Look at Ozark. A modern show but it takes place in the mountains and has a cloudy, rainy, dark vibe. The filter used in that show is a heavy blue filter, as heavy as the orange filter used for the Mexico scenes in BB.

hrj665

Welcome to Season 3, definitely this and Season 4 are the height of Breaking Bad (and it is NOT downhill after Season 4).

MrAlexSan

Team Walt! He's just going through a lot and Skylar should be more understanding, let the dying man spend time with his kids!

MenuMitch

I don't know if that's a "Mexico filter" or just filming at the right time of day. Especially in the desert. Real easy to get that orangey yellow tint as the sun's going down. Sometimes it does that after it rains. Ya go outside and everything looks yellow.

Joe Blankenship

I didn't catch that til I rewatched.

Joe Blankenship

You're slowly becoming a Skyler hater (no offense) :D :D :D

Jaroslav Dočekal

I love the introduction of the twins in this episode. They are a truly ominous, menacing presence.

Philip Isley

"How's tricks?" That was used by us old timers...LOL

David Cansler

"...don't really have a hint as to who they are. Cool..." This is no spoiler, but if you think back, at an earlier point in the show there is at least one hint or clue....

MertzRocks

Yep... Two lousy points...

MertzRocks

To answer your question Vee, yes it's legal. When you're marriage you become a single financial entity. There's no such thing as 'your money' and 'his money'. So if your soon-to-be-ex is hiding a savings account, or has a tax haven in the cayman islands, legally it's yours until the papers are finalized. It can't be a crime to audit your own accounts

Dale Diaz

Vee, I get it. Walt is the main character, but Walt is the bad guy here literally. Just find it funny you side with him so easily and are having a hard time seeing things from Skylers perspective. I also side with her here, as much as I find her character progressively annoying and in the way of what Walt does becsuse I just love seeing Walt do bad guy things. Skyler has literally legit reasons not to let him in anymore on her life if she dont want, she has every right to forsake him being apart of the family, im glad she is doing this to him, anybidy with a conscious for their family's safety would do the same.

LightsCameraJake

S3 is BY FAR the best season IMO. you're in for a treat

Dale Diaz

Skylar is in the right. As much as Walter might protest that he's doing what he is doing for the family, he could have easily accepted the money from Elliott and Gretchen Schartz for his treatment instead of cooking meth. He didn't save Jane, and in doing so caused the death of 160+ people. Walt made his choices and now has to endure the consequences. I don't feel sympathetic for him.

Mitchell Bowker

I'm going to echo some of the other commenters in siding with Skyler on this one. We all set bars in relationships as far as what our deal-breakers are. And I don't think there's anything wrong with Skyler saying I refuse to be in a relationship with someone who manufactures crystal meth, regardless of their intentions or how long we've been together. And you can look at their long-term relationship from another angle. Skyler's spent decades with Walt, undoubtedly seeing him at his most tender and vulnerable moments. To discover that this person could do something that you literally could not imagine has to shatter your understanding of who they are. You have to wonder if this person could cross this extreme line and lie about it repeatedly, did I ever really know them? And what does that say about our relationship and what was real and what was fake?

Ben M.

You are not going to like the twins. lol

Jonah Bertorelli

Can't believe we're almost halfway through this show. Obviously if Walt hadn't gotten involved with meth to begin with or had taken Gretchen and Elliott's offer, then a whole lot of people would be better off, so he has just been continuously digging himself into a deeper hole. On Skylar's end, her biggest mistake right now is not going all the way and reporting what she knows. It would hurt the family for sure but she would have plenty of support if everybody knew what Walt's been up to. Keep in mind that he was out of the game... until he chose to get back in it. I also like seeing the difference between him and Jesse here. Walt is trying to deflect and make up excuses for everything that has happened but Jesse has chosen to face it head on. I can't wait for to see the rest of this season!!!

jeremykg14

when I watched breaking bad for the first time, my mom wasn't approving of the drugs in the show, so she tried watching it herself to see what it was about. She ended up finishing the whole show within 5 days LOL

it4ok

Please do BB more often than you do !! Can't stand waiting

Pitz Woodworks

Wow. I'm surprised that you give Walt soooo much slack. There are horrible things that can happen in a marriage you can work through eventually. An affair? Ok, you can try to sit down and try to talk it through and maybe re-grow trust again eventually. Committing a crime like embezzlement or something and have to go to prison for years? Ok, you can try to work it out. Maybe have a distance relationship until you can be together again. But meth dealer? That's hurting other people (junkies for example). That's putting your entire family in lethal danger. That's turning into someone who does horrible, evil things to get ahead (like if you strangle another dealer with a bike lock, or stand and watch as a junkie chokes to death on her own vomit without saving her). That's like finding out your husband is a serial killer who goes out and murders people on a regular basis (Dexter). That is NOT the person you married. That is not something you can talk through and find yourself and your children no longer in danger. That is someone who is putting you and your childrens lives in very serious danger, for money. No matter what kind of 'good intentions' that person has, it doesn't make it any less likely that you will be murdered. Very much loving your reactions though! I can't wait for this season to continue!

TGrimace

Took me a few watches to realize the "do we get an automatic A" kid from the assembly is the same kid from the "don't bullshit a bullshitter" scene from last season!

Mike Minerals

Totally disagree with you on Skyler and Walt. Skyler doesn't owe him anything anymore, she doesn't owe Walt to let him explain it because he had plenty of chances to tell her and he never did. He's the one who first broke all the trust in their relationship and ended everything they had and Skyler was the one at least trying for a while to fix it. Even now, he wasn't actually open to telling her, she just figured it out and he knew it was pointless denying it. Telling her it was meth and not cocaine is not finally being open to telling the truth. He obviously still wouldn't want to tell her the truth about everything and immediately tried to downplay everything he did by saying "it's complicated" like it's actually defensible what he's done. Skyler has the truth of it, he's a drug dealer (or manufacturer, doesn't really matter at this point) and actually he's done way worse than she's even imagining, the only person Walt can rationalize his actions to is himself. Plus, Skyler is obviously starting to be actively afraid of him because she knows that if he could hide this from her, something she would never have thought him capable of, then she doesn't really know him anymore or maybe never really knew him and she's afraid of finding out what he's actually done or is capable of doing. You can really see the lengths Walt is going to to try and minimize his role in the plane crash and trying to find a way so that he can rationalize not being responsible for it. He obviously looked up all of these statistics about prior plane crashes to comfort himself that everything could have been so much worse. And his speech with Jesse, you just notice the stark difference in their approach. You could argue that Jesse and Walt both have some measure of responsibility for the plane crash but Walt tries to convince himself (and Jesse) that they're not at all culpable while Jesse actively lays everything on him and blames himself for all of it.

The blonde girl who spoke first, that was Cranston's daughter.

Now things are REALLY gonna get cookin'!
