Breaking Bad (Season 2 Ep 4) | Full Length Reaction!

Skylar aside, Walt was a total prick to Jesse in this episode. An insurmountable prick. Jesse turned to Walter because, in the end, Walter is all he has. All Walt had to do was give Jesse his half, or at the very least, front him a couple of those rolls of cash till their next batch so he could find somewhere to live.

At this exact point in the story Skylars behaviour feels so unjustified I think thats the problem. All she wanted was for him to try, and now that he's trying she's not appreciating it. I think that turns people against her for the rest of the series tbh

Balkyne

I really do feel like Jesse's parents are the most cold and unsupportive parents ever. We don't know their past but they really don't even give him a chance. They're very belittling

Balkyne

Yeah, the hatred for Skylar definitely comes from people siding with Walt and forgetting all the bad things he's done by seeing it from his perspective of "doing it for the family" and having started off being about pride and being able to leave behind money for his family. I feel later in the show some people come around on her, but also, I feel like more people can see where the discontent for her comes from. She's a diverse character and you really have to be objective to not see her very one sided. lol

I feel like the hate for Skylar comes from a lot of people (not you) who are watching bb for the first time, where they’re looking at everything from Walt’s perspective, as opposed to being objective and seeing that Walt is hurting his family and their actions are justified.

Can't wait til you react to the next episode!

Everyone is at their lowest in this episode. I think a lot of the Skylar hate stems from her going up against Walt when he is our protagonist and they've already done a good job making you sympathize with him from the very first episode.

keep trying what?

Looking at this after I posted it... sorry I wrote so much. lol

This is definitely a very difficult episode to watch. Especially because I want Walt to improve his relationship with both Skylar and Jessie, but I don’t think he can really do both at the same time. One will suffer. Obviously, Skylar is more important though. And of course, seeing Jessie go through all that is devastating. I also understand where his parents are coming from, but can’t help but feel they were exceedingly harsh here, but maybe that’s just me. I don’t agree with a lot of the Skylar hate and she definitely has a right to be angry with Walt, but I didn’t really enjoy that she tried to give Walt a “taste of his own medicine”. I feel like despite how much we want to do that sometimes, it isn’t really ever a healthy response. Passive-aggressiveness isn’t very productive, especially in a relationship. But Walt wasn’t giving her a lot to work with, either. Easy for me to say sitting on the sidelines. I imagine it must be infuriating/exhausting to put up with someone who is always lying. Definitely a tough situation. The problem is Walt kinda already seems in too deep. How would things develop if he told Skylar the truth at this point vs if he didn’t? Just some of my thoughts during the episode. I love watching your reactions and seeing your viewpoint! Looking forward to the next one!

You were doing so well... keep trying!

Also I hate that every time I see it, my brain goes "wow she's so pretty when she cries"

Dale Diaz

Loved your reaction to this episode. I hate this episode because it makes me feel so icky, but you can see it's a point of no return for walt and jesse. Their personal lives are both starting to deteriorate, and the only people they can confide in and rely on are each other

Dale Diaz

Skylar: We've been married for years but now I sense that something's wrong. Anything you want to tell me? Walt: No. Skylar: Well, I have no proof, so according to law, you are innocent until proven guilty. Therefore, I have no choice but to continue loving you with no suspicion. Walt: This sounds good to me. Nathan Fielder: So that's pretty much how I think it will go.

Mike Minerals

Fallacies Fallacies All your lies won't set you free https://youtu.be/aKNodRa71Cg Looking forward to the next episode! :D

Torm

We know that he lied. But does she?

Philipp

The concepts of "evidence" and "innocent until proven guilty" apply in a court of law, not among personal relationships, especially to someone you've known and/or been married to for years, if not decades.

Mike Minerals

I honestly think it's simpler than that. The first impression we as an audience get of Skyler is a portrayal of what is essentially a Karen—her and her sister in different capacities. Uptight, pernickity, passive-aggressive, helicopter-style parent/wife. I often wonder if she'd have been written differently if the "Karen" meme had blown up before Breaking Bad was written. There is definitely an aspect of her being at odds with the protagonist of the show, but I think people who dislike her here would still largely dislike her as a character in contexts outside of Breaking Bad if she displayed the same character traits.

TeddyBearBonfire

And yet she's completely right that he's doing something wrong. Your relationships surely aren't so transactional that you feel nothing about your partner or your relationship dynamic that isn't derived of hard evidence? That's a very odd nature for a relationship to have. She doesn't trust the husband she married, a state she came into after Walt chose not to trust the wife he married with the truth of his actions. That said, she has evidence. She has asked him and he's blatantly lied.

TeddyBearBonfire

I'm scared for Vicky, we've barely scratched the surface 😂

Chris Shine

Why feel bad for her? She has no evidence that he's doing something wrong. And instead of trusting the husband she married, she's being selfish and in self-pity. She is expecting Walt to prove his innocence instead of proving his guilt.

Philipp

The beauty of Breaking Bad is it takes you on a strange journey in which you will likely side with people you wouldn't normally, because everyone has some degree of valid justification for the way they are behaving etc. It's very human :')

Kelpie

I think this is the episode where people started to dislike Skylar. First she's getting in the way of Walt (understandably, and this is where I disagree with a lot of the fans who hate her), and then ending with her smoking. Even I was disgusted with her and started hating her the first time I saw this episode. Its taken a while for me to really sort this out, but this show does an amazing job of putting us in Walt's shoes, and getting us to root for him. And as obstacles come up - Cancer, Chad, Ken, Tuco, Krazy-8, and now Skylar is an obstacle for Walt. I realized a lot of fans feel betrayed by her for not standing by him, while she has every right to be mad with him. Walt is clearly changing, and she's seeing it, and she's just as scared as hurt as him, but while Walt shuts down emotionally it just hurts Skyler in the end.
