With such a great cast and such hilarious material to work with, I felt let down by this version. I can see really liking it if I never read the books. I think I'm just too big a fan to think this version is more than just ok.

Robert Reichle

Also, I would like to add that if like British sci-fi comedies, I recommend TIME BANDITS (1982). Made by members of Monty Python, the English comedy troupe that has John Cleese and others. All their movies are all very funny and you will love them.

I love the absurdist comedy both in this book, and the movie I felt did it justice. That said, if you like this, I highly recommend the book, and the series, Good Omens, which is by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I won’t spoil too much about it, but it’s a wonderful book and TV show with the same absurdist comedy, and the show lives on the performance of the two stars who are at the front of it. It’s a short series (6 Episodes) so it might be great as a reaction option.

That face at the end was Douglas Adams. And the lady in the pub that was eavesdropping on them, she played Trillian on the BBC TV show in the 80s. And, the guy in the hologram message at Magrathea, he played Arthur on the TV show. And when they're standing in line at the Vogon planet, you can see the old robot they used for Marvin.

British comedies involving space tend to be wacky. Red Dwarf, Doctor Who. It can be difficult to keep up if your not prepared. They tend to play with the idea of the "layman's knowledge" of science. Like the science is so advanced but people are often such idiots most of their lives that it amazes the intellectuals how we managed to survive, lol. Did you notice Marvin the Robot, Alan Rickman, and the President, Sam Rockwell, worked together in Galaxy Quest, too? Guy and Alex aka Dr. Lazarus. The sequel to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is called The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. Its actually a trilogy story written by Douglas Adams. Another great British comedy writer is Terry Pratchett who is best know for the Discworld series. A series of stories about a flat world, that is being carried on the back of a massive turtle, that is flying through space, lol. It has a more fantasy style rather than scifi style.

Ah what a great movie for a reaction, this is a very under the radar movie but had some major talent in front of the camera. The book series it's based on is incredible for any folks looking for comedic sci-fi.

Erik Stevenson

I remember seeing it in theaters, just grinning as the dolphins sang their song. That re-assured me that yes, this is a Hitchhiker's movie.

Joe Blankenship

Oh hell yesss this is one of my favorite movies ever. This is gonna be a great watch hahaha.

"Do people really drink beer that fast?" - British Builders really drink beer that fast.

I keep looking for you to begin season two of Breaking Bad and then I come across THIS!!! Vicky have I told you yet that I love you? Well now I have ;* If you are interested in the books, there are five in all (someone will correct me if there are more!). All of them are pretty easy reads, not overly long and all are very funny. Besides this book (Hitchhikers...) There are: The Restaurant at the End of the Universe Life, the Universe, and Everything So Long and Thanks For All the Fish and Mostly Harmless. R.I.P. Douglas Adams

Wonderful reaction Vee, I need to read the books because this film is always a blast. I love and try to live by "I'd much rather be happy than right any day" lol. Also your ending review word vomits are my favorite parts!

I really enjoyed your reaction and I'm very glad you chose to do this one. That being said it was almost physically painful to hear you ask "who's Douglas?" Please do yourself a favor and read the books, listen to the radio show (that came first) and watch the BBC TV series (covers the 1st 2 books, more or less). Douglas Adams had arguably the greatest imagination of all time, and he did not believe in strictly adapting his work to different mediums so every version of Hitchhikers is different and unique. The books are my favorite but that's probably because they were my introduction to it. Sadly Douglas Adams died (far too young) before this film was complete, and while certain parts of it were not exactly to my taste, I think he would have been quite happy with the end result. I also highly recommend his Dirk Gently novels, especially if you're a fan of Thor, who shows up in the 2nd novel.

Woohoo! Can't wait to watch this with you. It was one of my favorite books back in the day, and the movie captured the spirit of the book pretty well.

definitely wasn't expecting this πŸ₯³ such a fun movie , I have the book which also contains the restaurant at the end of the universe but it's so massive I've never read it , makes a good hop up though πŸ˜€ looking forward to watching this along with you on the weekend Vicky with snacks and drinks ofc 🍻🍦

Ian
