Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince | Full Length Reaction

Hey guys! Here is the 6th Harry Potter film! It’s such a bummer that we’re beginning to get closer to the end of the Harry Potter movies because it’s grown on me so much:( it’s gonna be hard to let go I’m already thinking about it LOL But I can’t believe they would end the movie like that… no spoilers but that was so shocking I did not see that coming in the slightest.. either way I wonder how the movies will continue on moving forward and here we go!! Down to the last 2!!  I hope you all enjoy~

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince | Full Length Reaction

Comments

Ma'am I will excuse your blunders because I know these films are long and you've been good at catching things most would often overlook. But Tom Riddle being Lord Voldermort was revealed long ago in chamber of secrets when his living memory from the book wrote out those words in a spell.

Allan Mena

This one always gets me at the end, especially with the recent passing of my father, who looked a bit like Dumbledore aside from the long hair and beard. He was like a father, or even wise loving grandfather, to harry. You'd never imagine in a million years this would happen... And indeed, each film (from at least the 3rd and on) gets darker and more grey each time, to help set the increasingly dark tone of the story. You're definitely not mistaken there. The books do a better job with Harry and Ginny, but I was also a hard Harry x Hermione shipper. Most people were I think. My friend was livid at this film's turn on the relationships. Comes out of seemingly nowhere. Harry and Ginny are very awkward, but I've come to be ok with it. It's Hermione and Ron that I still don't see coming. Does feel forced. Overall though, I prefer Luna personally. Used to like Hermione most, as the girls go, but Luna's just... you can't hate her, y'know?

I think it is either that streaming sites speed it up or some suspicious p!rate sites slow it down. I had a problem when I watched it on HBO max but on a site I will not name it sync's perfectly

Virtual TimeLine

I'm a bit puzzled why they cut so much out of the book for this movie. If they had made two movies they could have taken in another billion dollars at the box office. That's why there were two movies after this - they just couldn't excise enough from the books to get to the end in only one movie.

Stephen Ray

Love the content. but as always are the movies slowed down on your end? when ever i Sync my movie gets further and further ahead by a few seconds. Makes it hard to watch at the same time.

milkmjolk

Of course she did. She's awful.

Koala Banana

always so confused about drinking ages xD i think uk is 18 ? butterbeer i think has no alcohol xD in germany and many other places drinking age for beer is 16 :)

Florian Hoyer

i have the strong feeling she forgot we know tom riddle xD 2nd movie he was the memory you saw tom already xD Also harry was NEVER into herminone xD that wishing on your behalv girl :)

Florian Hoyer

1. Chill. Seriously man. Goddamn it's just a movie. Are you like this every time someone criticizes something you like? 2. My problem is NOT that it isn't "the same thing" as the book. It's that the changes made make it WORSE. Order of the Phoenix is NOTHING like the book, and I LOVE that movie. OotP was BETTER for the changes made to the book. HBP isn't. Stuff like Voldemort's backstory and the HBP mystery was just more interesting storytelling than all the teen romance the movie focuses on. An adaptation can make changes, but they have to be changes that make sense. LOTR made changes that made sense, The Hobbit didn't. The MCU makes tons of changes to the comics that make sense, Fox X-Men made changes that didn't. OotP makes changes to the book that made sense, this film doesn't.

Inhuman Paradox

That is INSANITY. God DAMN you book purists just can't handle the concept of ADAPTATIONS. That movies are NEVER meant to be the same thing and how utterly boring like Chamber of Secrets that is. That stories from the beginning of time onward have changed from the person or persons telling it. I thought you were extinct by now. It's a sickness.

YodatheHobbit

Yeah, I was SO afraid that would confuse her the whole rest of the film. LOL. Glad she understood after Ginny said "Say's right here, "This book is property of the Half Blood Prince."

YodatheHobbit

Nothing came out of nowhere in the film with the relationships. You even commented on Ginny looking jealous and checking out Harry and Cho in the last film. And have you NOT noticed all of the Ron and Hermione moments from the last 5 films? SOOOO much buildup. Ginny's first introduction in the second film is even finding out she's been talking about Harry all summer after she runs out of the room with her rode on, after noticing he was there at the dinner table. You seemed to have completely forgotten about the Tom Riddle identity as well which we learned a lot about in Chamber of Secrets.

YodatheHobbit

I really feel that Half-Blood Prince was the worst adaptation of any of the Harry Potter books (though some feel differently). In many ways, this book is, and movie should be, the culmination of several subplots involving the supporting characters, but the sins of past movies really fed into this, and Ginny is the most obvious one. You’re right in saying that she feels really forced into this one, but that’s because past movies have done such a bad job of including her key scenes. The movies have done many of the supporting characters poorly compared to the books…in many ways, it’s been needed because of the length of the books and the relatively short runtime of the movies (I say after watching a 150-minute movie). This movie, though, shorted both Voldemort’s backstory and the whole mythology of the Half-Blood Prince…ironic, considering he’s in the title, but is more than half-forgotten for the second half of the film. And that unfortunately will cost the final movies a little. I just didn’t enjoy this movie as much as I think I should have. But that’s how it goes. Looking forward to you going through the final two.

Kevin C

So Harry and Ginny were less awkward in the books and didn’t really seem to come out of nowhere. But as it usually is, the movies leave a lot out, which in this case meant leaving out the buildup of their relationship over several books. There were a few hints in the earlier movies, but it really didn’t do the books justice in this particular case.

Timothy Poeschl

So in Elizabethean times, when beer went stale, they would add butter and herbs to make it drinkable. It was called butterbeer. What they drink has almost no alcohol in it.

Reed James

It was so funny how you looked down and away to get your water or something right at the moment the name of the half-blood prince was shown in the ragged textbook. Perfect timing, lol.

3dbadboy1

What i really hate about the six movie is they cut out the best Dursley scene in the series. Where Dumbldore shows up and berates the Dursleys for being such terrible parents to Dudley.

Reed James

The Half Blood Prince book had a green cover and Order of the Phoenix had a blue cover which is what inspired the color grading for this movie and the last one

RD

It was a pretty big reveal / major plot point in the 2nd movie that Tom Riddle was his real name and they've been referring to him as that every now and then

RD

You're right, it was that Harry was born in the 80's, that is what made me think that. However, its not unthinkable that kids in the 90's are wearing 80's hand-me-down clothes or thrift clothes from the 80's. Plus, this is not England in the 90's, lol; this is 80's England. Cell phones and internet existed during 90's England. For as wealthy as the Dursley's attempt to appear, and how much they spoil Dudley, Dudley would definitely have a computer or gaming console by now. Or a better TV, at least. Then again, Dr Who isn't very accurate and its all about time travel, but their excuse is a very low budget to work with. The books say 90's, but the set pieces say 80's, so...

Raptor

The final two movies: lots of action, lots of heartstrings being pulled, and many revelations. It all comes to an end, so... anything can happen.

Robert Reichle

I seem to remember Ginny Weasley liking Harry from the moment she met him.

Robert Reichle

The movies arn't too keen on following the timeline now does it? hahah, just look at the wardrobe and casts they had for Fantastic beast

FatLittleButterfly

Yeap! I was waiting for the film to show Dumbledore riding a broomstick, but it wasn't meant to be xD

FatLittleButterfly

90s in the books, but HBP also shows the Milleneum Bridge...

Inhuman Paradox

The books are so superior to the films, half blood book is really good

Matty H

So much missing from this book. But teh Voldemort stuff espeically Voldemort's mother and her abussive homelife and how she used a love potion to trick Tom Riddle into marrying her. Only she stopped giving it to him and he went back to his rich family, abadoning her poor and pregnant in London where she died from labor complications and depression, living long enough to name him. The whole book is this is Voldemort, how he's so similar to Harry and yet how they diverged.

Reed James

Yeah, in Chamber of Secrets, we get a very unambigiouos date of it being 1992 at the start of the book at Nick's 500 hundredth deathday. He was executed on Oct 31st 1492. We also get James and Lily Potter's death happening on Oct 31st 1981 in Book 7.

Reed James

The films cut out a lot of the moments that slowly build over the years towards the two couples.

Connor Ellis

So good. Looking forward to seeing part 1 and 2. Incredible films

Jonathan Giles

Isn't it 90s?

Flukemarm

Unless you’re a House Elf or a Phoenix since they’re bound by magic more powerful than humans. In the book, Dumbledore and Harry head to Hogsmade to teleport away since that town isn’t teleportproof.

Calvin Kopp

As a quick side note, I feel that although you hate ending storylines, lol, Harry Potter does a great job with its ending. Plus, if you want more, there are the Fantastic Beasts films. They take place in the years after WW1 and there are only 3 out of the projected 5 films out now. I know they get A LOT of hate but whatever, its more Harry Potter world for fun. You will need and get massive lore dumps with those, lol, there is a lot of backstory that the films glaze over with throw away lines. Half-Blood Prince has a lot of sub-textual meanings but 1 specific reference, as you see. If you pay very detailed attention, you would see that Voldemort chose very specific items to be Horcruxes. His diary was the first murder of Moaning Myrtle. Then there is the ring Dumbeldore destroyed, belonging to Voldemort's grandfather. It became a Horcrux when Voldemort went back home to kill his parents and grandparents. The locket, belonging to his mother, is actually a heirloom of Salazar Slytherin. Voldemort is a decedent of Salazar Slytherin, which we learned in the second movie, which is why he can talk to snakes, btw. Each Horcrux is unique and special. Just wait until the next two films! You learned in the second film that Tom Marvolo Riddle is Voldemort's real name, V, lol. He used his real name to create an anagram 'Tom Marvolo Riddle' to 'I am Lord Voldemort' remember, lol? The lack of color is to show the 'looming shadow' or 'storm clouds before the storm' feeling the wizarding world has with the rumors of the Dark Lord returning and trying to gain power again with the small raids and attacks his followers have been doing this year. An overbearing gloom feeling in the background... ...or it could be just England and its bad weather, lol. 'She's dressed like its the 80's" lol, it is the 80's, V. Harry Potter takes place in the early 80's, before cell phones and internet. I love Draco during this film. His character development is deep during this film. The bravado of a child realizing the seriousness of actions and consequences of fascist adults. Draco shows real internal conflict. He is scared of both Dumbledore and Voldemort. His attempts show how scared he is by trying to kill Dumbledore with tricks and poisons and curses. How he doesn't want to look Dumbledore in the face when he does it. The scary wet hairy guy in the swamp, and in the window at Borgin and Burkes at the beginning, is Fenrir Greyback. He is werewolf and low-level death eater that loves being a werewolf. He loves killing his victims, especially children. He joined Voldemort because he loves killing, not because of ideals. He enjoys embracing his werewolf nature so much that he is always partially transformed with the teeth and claws and hair and sense of smell. The Phoenix will be fine. It didn't live in a cage. It was a free animal to begin with. Its not like tons of people have phoenixes as pets, lol, they are rare wild mythical creatures. It will be okay.

Raptor

Its actually important to note that it was explained by Dumbledore in the books that the Horcrux would not just be random objects. As seen in the memories, Tom Riddle likes to keep trophies, objects of significance. They do skip a lot of Tom Riddle's back story which is very interesting. Alot of places you cannot simply teleport into because of magic (hogwarts for example)

FatLittleButterfly

thanks for the reaction! for your ending monologue i think the word you were looking for was bleak

vlocke67

Voldemort ordered Draco to assassinate Dumbledore as punishment to Lucius Malfoy for failing him to acquire the prophecy and getting himself and a bunch of Death Eaters arrested and sent to Azkaban. Even though Azkaban is considered hell because of Dementors, Lucius is happy to be there since Voldemort’s beyond furious at him.

Calvin Kopp

I too was severely disappointed because they cut so much out about Voldemort’s backstory which probably my favorite part in the entire series. I also hated the direction they took in which is more of a comedy film than dark action yet mysterious themes. They constantly throw jokes in at the worst of times like when Ron almost dies and then spoke a joke about girls killing him. It completely ruined the suspense. That being said, it’s far better than the Goblet of Fire film when it comes adapting the book to big screen.

Calvin Kopp

Alright, time to unleash my hardcore book fan: This was a really disappointing one. The book is all about delving into Voldemort's backstory, every aspect of his life and even the reason he is incapable of love is delved into. It's damn near Fincher-esque in terms of character study. Moreover, the mystery of the Half Blood Prince is kept in focus as well, with the gang really trying to find out what f*cked up person made this thing. It is, to many of us, the best book in the entire series. But y'know, Twilight got popular so all that got dumped for teen romance! Forget all that psychological storytelling and mysterious intrigue, it's all about that teenage romance! My god, it's like I'm watching the early seasons of Smallville (Except I actually like Smallville and would rather be watching that). But that ends up really laying bare how much the cuts imposed on previous movies from their books really tanked this one. Harry and Ginny's relationship is so well-built in the books, with Ginny being the fiery Lois Lane to his mild-mannered Clark Kent. Here? She's more soft-spoken than he is, because they weren't able to give her much of a personality due to runtime constraints in previous films. She and Harry kinda just get thrown together here, but they somehow still take too long on it compared to other parts of the story. Every cut made to make previous films work in their runtime, or in Phoenix's case, just improve the story itself, crashes down on this one. But even then, they still could've at least done the Voldemort backstory and mystery stuff. But nope, and the one real action scene in this entire movie is something they had to make up on their own (It wasn't in the book) because they got so caught up in romance they forgot to have anything push the story forwards. The one thing I like better here, is Draco. Idk, but in the books Draco was just kinda a jerk. I never felt much sympathy for him other than obligatory "You were raised this way" understanding. Starting here, I actually felt movie Draco had a bit more depth. In fact, it's why I actually really liked a change they almost made to Deathly Hallows and would've preferred them doing it, but I'll save that for when we get there. Regardless, I'm at least glad the movie is objectively good enough for non-book fans to enjoy. It's still well-directed, it's still well-acted, it's still a good movie on its own. It just annoys me with changes I see as dumbing down the story and removing some of the best parts. Alright I'm done being a killjoy I promise. I learned from the Hobbit comments that people don't like these "The book was better" rants, but this one is big enough to get off of my chest. I promise I'll be more positive next time, even when DH also does things that annoy me. I promise I'll focus on the good stuff.
