The Dark Knight Rises | Full Length Reaction!

Late, but there is a reason for that pacing and how disjointed the film was: TDKRises' original script was 400 PAGES long. For context, the rule of screenwriting is 1 page = 1 minute. TDKRises' script was over 6 hours long, and it was heavily based on A Tale of Two Cities. It was also reportedly more violent, as notice Selina's (girl?)friend that just vanishes from the movie? She was supposed to get murdered in the chaos during those months Bane ruled Gotham. TDKRises could've been an excellent two-part movie. But that's where one aspect of Nolan that is somehow both great and terrible comes in. He doesn't ever like to leave anything for a sequel, he has a philosophy of "If we have a good idea now, do it now. Don't leave it for later". In fact, something similar to that happened with TDK. Goyer initially wrote treatments for two movies, one about Batman, Gordon, and Dent chasing the Joker ending with Harvey being corrupted, and another with Harvey going insane as the Joker escapes and causes his own havoc. But Nolan, despising the idea of sequel bait, insisted on combining them into the same film. With TDK, it worked since it was effectively two 90 minute movies combined into one 150 minute film, only having 30 minutes condensed down from what it could've been. With TDKRises, it wasn't a 180 minute story being compressed to 150, it was a 400 minute story being compressed to 165. Someone in production really should've stepped in and just said "Hey, this really doesn't work as one story, you really need to shoot this for a two-parter".

I agree with you about the pacing, it's almost like they were so pre-occupied with the setup for the city to get taken over that they forgot they had to fit it into a almost 3 hour movie, and by the end they just had to cram in a bomb, 2 funerals, bruce's will, robin's surprise, and the vacation scene in what felt like 30 seconds. They also did Bane dirty I feel, he deserved another fight scene not just a cannon blast. Dark Knight > Rises lol
