2022-05-21 09:33:02 +0000 UTC48:58 - I think you might be thinking of the three volunteers who had to open the valves to drain the water beneath the reactor core; I know you've seen it, so I can say that event happens towards the end of Episode 2. What's happening here is that Akimov and Toptunov were dismissed by Dyatlov after the accident in favour of bringing in the day shift, but they both took it upon themselves to stay and try to manually open the feedwater valves which once led to the cooling pipes around the core. Their actions were noble but ultimately futile - because the cooling pipes were shattered in the explosion, and all they were doing was dumping more water into the corridors beneath the core. They were in that area for well over an hour, and the level of radiation they were exposed to over that length of time sealed their fate.

2022-05-04 11:15:50 +0000 UTCVictoria - for heavens' sake, please feel free to "geek out" as much as you wish while reacting to and discussing this series - I guarantee you'll probably know things that aren't brought up, and even if they are, we'll be more than happy to listen. For what it's worth, a significant chunk of this dramatisation took inspiration from a BBC docudrama on the subject (which is definitely worth watching sometime) - and much of that was in turn based on a book called "Chernobyl Notebook" by Grigory Medvedev.

2022-05-04 01:33:04 +0000 UTCI enjoy seeing you geek out over this event and wanting to share what you learned. While some things are dramatized in this show, I think people gave you the wrong impression about how much it's dramatized. I'd say it's more accurate than the average dramatized program.

I think it turned out to be more accurate than plenty of other dramatized programs, while still being an incredible watch. It will be a difficult viewing at times but I am hyped for the rest of your reaction.
