Added 2021-11-12 02:04:20 +0000 UTCSo I just watched The Incredible Hulk!! I was a bit shocked to see Edward Norton as the hulk in this film and would like to know why they didn't stick with him? I love Mark Ruffalo and I want to see him as the hulk, I'm just curious. 🙂 But I felt this film did a really good job introducing Bruce Banner as a character, how he came to be the Hulk and his personality overall. Also the fact that they paid homage to the old hulk with the references; the purple pants, Lou Ferrigno, etc. It was a lot of fun and I hope you guys enjoy as well!!

Norton has said some bad things about this "cut" of the film, not the film itself. This final cut was butchered almost to the same extent as Suicide Squad or Daredevil. I wish MCU fans would gather for a Snyder Cut movement for this film.

2021-11-27 18:02:26 +0000 UTCI'm the complete opposite. Norton was far more comic accurate. Ruffalo feels more generic, and I dislike how comedic they made the Hulk. The Hulk is meant to be the manifestation of everything Bruce oppresses. It's not a separate personality created by the experiment, it's all the anger and trauma that was ALWAYS within Bruce, but the experiment made it manifest as a monster. A literal inner demon, something to be terrified of. There's nothing scary about Ruffalo's Hulk, even the voice is Ruffalo's friendly voice whereas this film had the Legend Himself Lou Ferrigno with his demonic roars. The Hulk is a Jeckyl and Hyde story, but I never got that from Ruffalo, only Norton. It's a sad consequence of the MCU's allergy to darker tones. It's why material like Jessica Jones doesn't exist in the films, the MCU movies are action comedies first and foremost. And that just isn't conducive to characters like Ghost Rider, Hulk, Daredevil, etc etc.. Even Eternals was a huge risk, and look how that's working out (Critics hating it because how dare an MCU film try to be more than the formula). That's the nail in the coffin for any chance of the MCU going darker on the big screen.

2021-11-27 18:01:25 +0000 UTCThat was actually due to Universal's editors wanting to distance this film from Hulk 2003 in editing against the director's wishes. I really wish MCU fans would start a Snyder Cut movement for this film, Leterrier and Norton really made some great stuff that was left out of the final cut, as well as the original cut having a better non-linear pace with breathing room.

One issue I had with this story was the assumption that viewers would know a bit about the history between the character from the old hulk movie and/or comics. Some flashbacks to the old hulk movie were thrown into the intro credits but unfortunately that's about all the context they really provide. Also, I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on some of the upcoming films in the series!

You seem to have missed Iron Man's. :) Incredible Hulk's is right before the credits, but most of the other movies have them in the middle or at the very end (and often both). And they become more and more significant as they go.

In Iron man 1 end credits They mentioned building the Avengers in the end credits scen when Samuel L Jackson shows up to tell Tony he is putting a program together called "The Avengers Initiative" and now Tony relayed that info to the General at the end of Hulk. Its amazing how all these movies tie in to one another.

Governments (and hence the military) don't like unchecked powerful entities. They will always seek to control them, or failing that, mitigate and/or destroy them.

Suffice it to say, Norton has said some bad things about this movie, and Marvel had some bad things to say about him. They apparrently negotiated to include him in The Avengers, but eventually went to Ruffalo. So, bad blood all around.

The Leader hasn't been used yet, so far as I can tell, but we did see Mr. Blue's head swelling and pulsing....

2021-11-12 02:57:52 +0000 UTCThe first Hulk movie had Eric Bana as Bruce Banner. Its not really part of the MCU and isn't good anyway. But finding a reliable Hulk was difficult until Mark signed on. If you're gonna watch all the MCU, it wouldn't hurt to see the 1986 film Howard the Duck, too lol. He comes up, very briefly, in 3 films and in the What If series.

And with the start of the actual MCU they were going for more of a group focus instead of having singular intense actors. In the words of Kevin Feige, “an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members.”
