Agree about Tucker $ Dale vs. Evil great movie. Black hawk down would be a great choice too.

Michael Richter

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is a great horror comedy (but it is a little gory), The Conjuring is great too, and so is the Color Out of Space

"Se7en (1995)" , "The Thing (1982)", "Alien (1979)"

Nathan

Ohhhh I was hoping that From Dusk Till Dawn would win but it looks like maybe another time. That said, From Dusk Till Dawn is a great movie for the Halloween season! Not for children.

James M

"Tigers Are Not Afraid" from female Mexican director Isa Lopez

Checo Lara

Psycho from 1960 is a classic horror movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock!

Tyler Gorash

I don't get it either. Don't get me wrong, I like the movie, I like Chris Tucker, I love Jackie Chan but... really? On the other hand... if it leads to the creation of a Jackie Chan category then Rush Hour all the way! :p

Alexis

As a horror straight out of left field, I’m going to suggest “Undead” by the Sperig brothers. Not ultra scary, but something of a cult classic.

Darren Withers

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, but make sure to watch the original series episode "Space Seed" before for context

James Ready

Coraline, Corpse Bride, The Mummy 1 & 2, Kubo and the two strings, Scooby Doo movies (animated not live action) for Halloween.

Fantasylover4evr

Ha..Kentucky Fried Movie?? That may scar her for life, but definitely The Last Dragon.

Dan Hughes

I can't understand the entire apathy toward Enter the Dragon...Would it help if we said that once she sees it, we can get her to watch Kentucky Fried Movie and The Last Dragon?

Eric Janssen

I don't understand the love for Rush Hour.....Superman all the way!

Dan Hughes

Some good choices. The 70s SUPERMAN is pretty much the "original" big-budget superhero movie. It's a lot different from the ones these days, but you can definitely see how it influenced them. As for horror, THE FRIGHTENERS from 1996 is always a fun one. It's more spooky than scary, and it was LOTR director Peter Jackson's first big studio film.

Bryan Tuck

If you're looking for some scary but not gory films for October, here's a few (sorry if you've already seen any): What Lies Beneath (Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford) The Woman in Black (A very depressed Dan Radcliff) Paranormal Activity (don't remember who) The Others (Nichole Kidman) The Sixth Sense (Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osmond) Signs (Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix) The Grudge (Sarah Michelle Gellar), although it's not as good as others on the list it has lots of jumpscares.

Eric Bogerd

Casablanca

Quacksalver Extraordinaire

I will never not laugh at the phrase "Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?!", so Rush Hour it is. Some other recommendations: Shanghai Knights/Shanghai Noon, speaking of funny Jackie Chan movies. Arrival (the 2016 one), is great if you want a movie that makes you think. And if you really want to appeal to the nerdy nerds, all 13 Star Trek movies. They aren't all amazing, but none of them are truly bad.

LudicDave

In 2020, we reactor-fans pledged that before the next year was out, we would make ONE October Halloween horror-reactor watch Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein. We have not forgotten, and intend to see it through by the end of 2021. ✊😠 (As for Ghost & Mr. Chicken, that’s already been mentioned.)

Eric Janssen

Apparently not, although Beautiful Dreamer is spooky enough for October.

Eric Janssen

Yeah, but you saw all three in the 80’s, that’s why. 😎 (Except for the first 90’s Candyman, which didn’t go off the racial rails like the, ahem, SEQUELS…)

Eric Janssen

I’m guessing it’s people who watched The Fifth Element, and thought “Now you HAVE to watch everything he ever directed!”

Eric Janssen

Alien seems like it would be a sci-fi film, but really it's a horror film set in space. And it's a 4 film series (really 6 films with the prequels that are pretty good too) that become sci-fi action as it goes. Manhunter (1984) is a riveting prequel (sequel? I'm not sure which is set before the other) to Silence of the Lambs with none of the same actors. It did poorly in the box office but has since become a cult classic. The Birds is a classic Alfred Hitchcock horror film about...well birds. 😀 Someone else suggested The Evil Dead series (the third one is called The Army of Darkness) which is an over-the-top Horror with gore that is almost comical in its excess and the films turn more comedy as they go. If you're feeling brave enough to tolerate the gore of a zombie film, Dawn of the Dead (the 2004 version) is amazing. The Dead Zone (1983) is about Christopher Walken who emerges from a looong Coma with the ability to psychically tell by touch what evil people are doing in secret.

Mr. Avatar

Peter Jackson directed The Lord of the Rings which you are loving and he also directed a comedy/horror movie called *The Frighteners* with Micheal J Fox (In an unusually emotionally down role for him) that is fantastic.

Mr. Avatar

For October: The Prophecy (1995), John Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness" (1987) are both two that would be right up your ally.

Sean Novack

I don’t get the love for Leon the Professional. I get it’s importance. I guess you have to watch it at least once.

panacamanana

Peter Jackson, the director of the LotR trilogy started in the horror genre, you might have fun checking those out. His first few are really gory so avoid those. He directed one in the 90's with Michael J. Fox called "The Frighteners" that is scary/funny you might enjoy.

Bruce Bromley

No way you American prude

Sir Mth

Or, to shorten the list, just The Ghost & Mr. Chicken. 👍

Eric Janssen

Yeah, why the heck would anyone WANT to watch the original Superman or Enter the Dragon, when they can get a 90’s buddy-cop comedy? 🤷‍♂️

Eric Janssen

My favorite horror film is The Thing (1982). A great comedy/horror is Tucker and Dale vs Evil.

JayF

Just for the sake of spring cleaning…can we clean some titles OFF the polls, say, if nobody else votes for Pancreas or Llorana after a year or so?

Eric Janssen

Hello Vicky, it's nice to read from you. I hope you had a nice time in Colorado and I'm curious what the content will be. 😊 For the next poll I have a few suggestions for you and at least in my opinion, all of them are very good. Since I haven't a favorite, I list them in alphabetical order. 😁 and you have to choose if you want to add one of them: - Black Rain - Dead Poets Society - The Martian I love these films and I think you would too. And since you asked suggestions for October, here is the ultimative cult series of horror films: The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness (or if just one film, then only Army of Darkness) Okay there may be 'a little bit of gore' 😂 but at least it's also funny, especially Army of Darkness. I hope you'll chose some of my suggestions. Have a nice sunday, even though it's the middle of the night for you now. Kind regards, Chris.

Chris Lüders

Did you watch Queens Gambit? Its a very short show (7x1hour) and it is very entertaining because it is unpredictable and centers on characters reacting to each other in a quick moving storyline. Netflix produces a lot of experimental stuff, some is bad and some is good. This one is great.

Dioskur

YOU HAVEN'T SEEN RUSH HOUR!? It's gonna win. Lol

TB

I don't understand the appeal of that pedophile wet dream called Leon The Professional.

David Crabtree

Oh please anything but Rush Hour

Tiger Chu

God please don't watch Leon the professional, that movies pedophilic undertones are way to heavy. Nice Guys is much more your style I think

REC, or Quarantine (English remake of REC).

Gabriel Lozano, WLC

I hope you’ll watch Her some day. 👍

Nemo

Fear Street Trilogy, IT Chatper 1&2, The Conjuring

PhillyJ

Slither is a great one starring Nathan Fillion from Firefly.

Jeremy Vickers

Suggestions: - Heavenly Creatures (1994) Peter Jackson director, Kate Winslet's first film. Based on a true story. Drama, fantasy (not the wizards and dragons kind). - Always (1989) Steven Spielberg director Holly Hunter, Richard Dreyfuss, John Goodman; Audrey Hepburn's last film. Remake of a 1943 film. Sentimental romantic drama. Horror Suggestion: - Let the Right One In (2008) (Swedish) Based on the novel.

Noby

Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness Trilogy Bubba Ho-tep Gremlins Van Helsing Underworld movies

Dan Hughes

Recommendations: Transformers: The Movie (1986), Dazed & Confused, Footloose (2011), Real Steel,

David Crabtree

Horror suggestions: Poltergeist (1982) What Lies Beneath (2000) The Sixth Sense (1999) Sleepy Hollow (1999) Crawl (2019) Psycho (1960) Just for fun: The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966)

Kevin Townsend

I recommend Star Treks II, III, IV, and VI, and Speed

Movies that scared me as a kid were Child's Play, Candyman, and Hellraiser. Saw them way to young.

Sean

I hope if The Breakfast Club doesn't win here, it wins the next poll whenever they might be! It's my favorite movie! :D

Tyler Gorash

I recommend ”the witch” (2015) as a horror movie. And hereditary (2018)

ChrisDelaySWE .

How about the original Halloween as a Halloween movie? It's a classic if you haven't already seen it.

David Portnov

"The Conjuring" (2013 ghosts) "30 Days of Night" (2007 vampires) "You're Next" (2011 slasher) "Dawn of the Dead" (2004 zombies) "The Mist" (2007 monsters) "8 Legged Freaks" (2002 comedy horror) "Monster House" (2006 animated)

Mr. Writhms

Oh yeah, it is actually. You're right.

David Portnov

Ju-on (the original Japanese movie adapted as 'The Grudge'). Highly freaky and a really cool concept. There's just something about foreign horror movies that hits me in the creeps in a way wholly unlike any American horror does. If you're down for scary game suggestions, I also recommend playing the Fatal Frame series. They're all connected, but can still be played individually if you don't want to do all three main games. If you were to only pick one, most people like the second one best (Crimson Butterfly), but the third is my favorite (The Tormented).

Erin Haury

You should check out Nighmare on Elm Street!

Also sre we still watching anime ?

ThisTruckingGuy

October picks: The Skeleton Key, Scream, Final Destination, Get Out, The Frighteners, World War Z, Blade, I Know What You did last Summer, Event Horizon, Cloverfield

David Martin

Cowboy bebop movie is a Halloween movie

ThisTruckingGuy

Horror stuff (some I’ve said before): Coherence (2013) In the mouth of madness Triangle (2009) Pontypool (2008) 1408 Also that is a lot of hearts lol

Kelvin

How the bloody hell can Rush Hour have such a commanding lead over some of these other great movies?

Jeffrey Rose

Vee would absolutely love Midnight Run! I hope she still watches it an one point even though it has little chance of winning in the poll.

RX2904

I'm not big on horror but Midsommar is a great film

Matt

Trick ‘r Treat is one of my Halloween favorites.

Erik Greene

For horror: The Others, Hereditary, Nightmare on Elm Street (the original), Friday the 13th (ditto), The Exorcist, Silence of the Lambs, The Conjuring series, The Haunting of Hill House/Bly Manor Netflix shows

Mytheos Holt

All good films but Ruby Sparks and The Nice Guys get my votes

Matt

Nightmare Before Christmas is a mandatory!
