First Step Complete! [Writer's Blog #7]
Added 2022-08-22 02:26:42 +0000 UTCHello everyone, hope you're doing well.
At the time of this post, I had just wrapped up the outline for the book I'm writing and I am so, unbelievably proud of myself for getting through it, despite all the trials and tribulations that prevented me from getting it done. The outline took longer than anticipated, but we got there in the end and that's what matters.
I'm going to let the outline and story marinade for a bit before picking it back up in September. This time around, I'm fully diving in and starting the story. I already have the first chapter written (still needs to be edited), but I'm genuinely so elated. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would have the ability or opportunity to work on a project of this magnitude, and have a potential audience to show it to.
If I follow the outline to the letter, then the book will have around 26 chapters in total, not counting epilogues, spoilers for the next book in the series, etc. There are multiple sub-plots that run throughout the book that all converge into one overarching plot towards the end.
Had I written something like this a few years ago, I would not have been able to finish it, nor start it. It's always reaffirming for me to look back at my old pieces and fully realize that I drastically improved as a writer. Finishing this outline is a huge step for me as in the past, I had never been able to finish something this extensive.
It truly is the small things that make the biggest difference. I fully believe that writers, and all artists, need to complete something in order to move onto the next puzzle. Carrying a project to completion only serves as motivation to carry the entire operation to fruition. Setting small goals and not being too hard on one's self for not reaching those goals at the desired time is also incredibly important. I have a tendency to self sabotage, even if the project I'm working on brings me a lot of joy and fulfillment, so this is a huge step for me.
Thank you all so much for being so patient with me, in reading all these updates. I realize that I'm sort of hyping up the story, which could potentially set me up for failure, if the story does not meet your expectations. Again, I can't wait to share more details with you, as this story progresses. I just want to get it right the first time, then go from there.
Thank you so much for reading, take care.
PS: I have a lot of exciting content planned out for the rest of this year and half of next year. I can't wait for you all to see it!
