The Difference Between Spice, Sm*t, and Er*tica [Writer's Blog #6]

Hello everyone, hope you're doing well.

As the consumer sheep I am, recently I scrolled through TikTok and came across a very insightful video, explaining the difference between spice, smut, and erotica, and it got me thinking: which of the three do I want to write/produce?

A quick summary of the difference between the three: spice is when the story is more prominent than the no no bits, smut is when the story and the no no bits are equal, and erotica is when the no no bits are more prominent than the story.

I took a look at a lot of the stuff I've written in the last year and a half and I realize that out of the three options, I enjoy writing spice a lot more than I enjoy writing smut or erotica. There have been a few instances where I have written and voiced erotica (I don't recommend looking for those audios, they're a bit trash), and every time I wrote/voiced them, I was WILDLY uncomfortable.

LUCKILY FOR ME, the vast majority of you also enjoy my writing format (hopefully). A lot of the comments I receive (though not many, please leave more I love reading them) have let me know that you all are actually here for the story and not the porn, and as cliche and fake as that sounds, I truly believe that that's the case. All of my audios so far have been incredibly story centric and my NSFW audios are no exception. I fully believe that if I take out the porn, the stories can still be told in a well organized fashion.

So going forward, I'm going to continue my format of writing/producing spice and maybe adding a bit more smut into the equation here and there. I want my audios to maintain their integrity as what they were originally - stories. I don't mean for this to come off as shameful or denigrating, but so many creators I know personally have expressed regret and contempt that they went down the path of making NSFW content and are now dependent on it for their income. I don't want that to be me. I want to be able to write stories and produce content that you all will enjoy consuming, and I writing. This entire journey has never been about how popular I could get, relying on the most primal side of human beings, it's always been about the stories. I didn't do a good job of making that point when I first began, but that's what I strive for now.

I'll work out a model I can work within comfortably and get back to you all as soon as I finalize it all. Regardless of what happens, I'm truly grateful for you all's support.

Thank you all so much for reading, take care.

I agree with Shadow Wolf up above. Writers should write what they want and are comfy with, not what others expect them to make. Usually fun to poke the boundary to see if u comfy with other stuff but don't feel bad if you don't like what you found. Be comfy and have fun.

I honestly always believe creators should follow what they are comfortable with. Experimentation is always good but if you don’t feel comfortable with it then that’s fine. Your brand of story telling has always been appealing to me since I found out about you back at the end of 2021. And on a personal note your stories have helped me get back into writing and I hope you continue to make amazingly wonderful stories. Keep being awesome Lune, and hope you have a great day.
