Joe's Auto Part 1

Hi, I'm Jack. I know, ew, another first person story. But hey, they work and are fun. Especially when I tell you my experiences at my new job. I had been searching for a job for weeks and think I might have finally found one at Joe's Auto Repairs. I, being barely 30 years old, had just moved to a new town with nearly nothing except my car and a few bags of belongings, having just broken up with my boyfriend and moved out. I wanted a new start and was supposed to meet the movers at my new apartment, when I heard a loud crunch and my car started to steam and the "check engine" light came on.
I pulled onto the side of the road, got out of the car and popped the hood. I had worked on cars with my dad when I was a teenager. I could've changed the oil (which was currently full), or replaced few wires or brakes, but this was out of my knowledge. All I could see was steam and a bunch of jumbled parts in the engine of my 2016 Toyota.
I squinted my eyes as I looked around at the passing cars and the old run down buildings. I fumbled in my pocket for my phone and was just about to start a search for a tow company, and by sheer luck a tow truck pulled off the road directly in front of me. What hopped out of the driver's seat made my jaw drop.
A man standing close to 5'11", nearly trimmed short brown hair, salt & peppers beard scruff with a graying mustache, broad frame and torso, wearing a dark gray mechanics jumpsuit. The man was handsome, even with his black sunglasses on. He raised a strong arm with a wave.
"Hello there, I was passing by and saw you had some car trouble," the man spoke in a manner that made it sound more like a question than a statement.
I chuckled as I rubbed the back of my head and gestured toward my streaming engine. "Yeah, I don't know what happened. It was running fine, but started steaming the moment I got into town. I tried to see if I could do something, but couldn't find anything with my level of knowledge."
"Well, let this old man have a look see," the bulky man stepped up next to me and leaned over the car. He smelled of oil, gasoline, and a hot grill, which I'll admit made my cock jump a little, especially with how handsome he was. I watched as he reached in and jiggle some wires, some other compartments, before he laid on his back and shimmed under the front of the car to do the exact same thing. As he did, I got a nice view of the way his jumpsuit hugged his large package, and the way his hugged the rest of his body. I quickly liked away when he started scooching back out and stood up. "Looks to me like your radiator gave out. I wouldn't risk driving it further. I can tow it back to my shop just up the road a bit. I'll be able to give you a better estimate and get it fixed for you."
"Wow, you're a life saver." I said while shaking my head on disbelief by how unlucky and yet lucky I was. "I'd appreciate that greatly."
Within minutes we had my car securely fastened on the trailer bed of his tow, and we were bouncing along in the cab.
"Joe," he said, breaking the silence that had accumulated.
"I'm sorry?" I replied, giving him an odd glance.
"My name," he said as he extended a hand to me. "Joe. Owner of Joe's Auto Repairs."
"Oh," I said as I shook his hand. "Jack."
"Nice to meet you Jack." He returned both hands to the steering wheel. "What brings you to town?"
"I recently moved out here, got out of a poor relationship with my ex boyfriend. I wanted a new start. I was supposed to meet the movers at my apartment. But guess I won't be able to for a while now. Thankfully they have a set of keys. Hopefully I'll be mobile soon, so I can find a job."
"Not to worry, we'll have you fixed up within the hour." Joe said as he pulled into a lot filled with old run-down vehicles and plenty of newly refurbished ones. "Here we are."
He turned around and backed the truck up to a garage. We then got out as he lowered my car down. He gave a shout and a slim man a bit older than myself with a round pot gut straining his jumpsuit, and a brown beard came jogging out. Joe said a few words before they pushed my vehicle into the garage and the new man began looking under the hood. Joe pulled me to a side room, which looked to be a mix of a front desk and his office.
He plopped himself into the chair, which squeaked under his weight as he spoke. "You're lucky. I can have it repaired within a couple hours. Kent, that fat geezer working on your car now, is great. He works quick. As for total, it's gonna be a chunk from the old wallet, but I promise you lots quality work."
"That's alright, I figured it would cost me a bit. Hopefully I can find a job soon to make up for the loss in my savings."
"About that, seeing as how your vehicle won't be ready for a couple hours, what do you say you join me for lunch and we can talk about a job opportunity for you? I'm always looking for a new crew." He said with a smirk.
"Wow, that's very kind of you. But you barely know me. I'm also not too knowledgeable when it comes to fixing cars. I can do small stuff. But still need more experience."
"Bah, any experience is a great starting point," he said as he tapped his fist on his desk. "I'll happily show you the ropes. Besides, it beats searching while having nothing. If you don't like it, you can always search for something else. What do you say?" He extended his hand toward me once again.
What was I supposed to do? I had basically been invited to a job on my first day in town. I needed some form of income. And he was right, if I didn't like it I could always leave.
I reached forward and shook his hand. "I'm in."
"Excellent." He said with a grin. "Now, let's go get some food, I'm starving."
