"Let me see, Sacred Power, Chanting my eternal Lord and Father, wait, how did these two runes..." Constantine frowned as he looked at the runes in the basement.
The magic array he had drawn was in the shape of an inverted triangle, with a rune at each corner that could be used to channel divine magic power. At this moment, two of the runes lit up, but one remained unlit.
Constantine had to walk over to the unlit rune, erase his markings, and start redrawing the pattern using the blood of a unicorn and an elf from the Magic World of Maya, as well as the wool of a newborn lamb commonly used in Christian offerings, and the antlers and blood of a deer.
Tim and Jason stood on either side, watching him draw. After a while, Jason clicked his tongue and said, "Why do I feel like there's something wrong with the image of the Holy Spirit you're drawing? Are you sure that the ends of the cross are hanging with cow ears and cowhide? And this doesn't look like a Christian Culture pattern, does it? It looks more like a Carthaginian Culture pattern."
Constantine looked up and down at Jason, who was wearing a red jacket with a baseball team logo, dark-colored wide-leg jeans, and a pair of rubber boots. This image seemed far removed from the image of a magical prodigy, and the professional terms he was spouting were even more contradictory.
"Even I can tell that the symbols connecting these two runes are wrong," Tim sighed, reaching out and pointing to the symbol Constantine was drawing. "Isn't the direction of this reverse flow backward? And I always feel that even if it can be activated, it can't provide the most efficient energy to the rune next to it."
"Wait, did Batman in your Space teach you magic?"
Constantine was surprised, even shocked. He stared at the two children in disbelief and said, "Batman guards me like a thief. How could he let me teach you magic?"
"Who said our magic was taught by you?"
"But besides me, who else could master this knowledge of runes?" Constantine looked down at the pattern he had drawn and said, "Even Little Zat, who was born into a magical family, only has a basic understanding of common runes. As for the gray runes left behind by religion and history, she has never even seen them. Right now, I'm the only one in the magical realm who is studying this."
"We learned magic from Bruce Wayne," Jason shrugged and said frankly, "I think his magic level is much stronger than yours, and your rune knowledge is probably on par."
Constantine's jaw almost dropped, and he maintained a look of utter shock as he turned to Jason and said, "Bruce Wayne in your Space is a sorcerer?! Are you sure?"
"What's so surprising about that? With Batman's intelligence, learning magic would be a piece of cake." Tim, the number one Batman fan, said disdainfully, "And are you sure Batman is guarding against you because he doesn't want you to teach magic to the Robins, and not because of your rotten love history?"
"What are you talking about, I have no interest in children."
"The Robins in our Space are not children anymore," Jason rolled his eyes. "Although I sometimes feel that Batman's concern for his Robins is a bit excessive, guarding against you is undoubtedly the right thing to do."
Constantine sighed and said, "When I first met Batman, the Robins were still children, and I watched them grow up. But the children of Gotham are indeed not suitable for learning magic, for reasons I find hard to describe."
"What is it?" Tim asked curiously.
Constantine sighed even more deeply, and as he drew the magic array, he said, "Your Space is from an earlier era, and the magical realm may not have developed to its current state. Do you know that about a decade ago, the magical realm underwent a grand transformation? Guess what the main reason was."
"What was it?"
"It was because the Dark Sorcerer from Gotham believed that Demons and Angels had been exploiting the magical realm for many years, and the unfair treaty had lasted too long. So they devised a way to set up a huge summoning magic circle within the boundaries of Gotham, summoning all the Angels and Demons who had been exploiting humans. Then, taking advantage of the home field advantage of Gotham, they gave all the Angels and Demons a thorough beating."
"From then on, the Dark Sorcerers from Gotham were completely blacklisted by Heaven and Hell, and so was the place of Gotham. I came here not only to borrow the power of the Court of Owls, but also because if I can't pay off my debts for a while, I can still rely on Gotham's unique geographical advantage to make it harder for my creditors to find me, or even give up."
Tim and Jason exchanged a glance, and then they understood that in this Space, which was equivalent to their future, the phenomenon of a weak magical realm had been resolved in a slightly comical way.
It should have been their peers, the people born in Gotham around 1980, who produced a group of Dark Sorcerers. When this group grew up, they fully inherited the Gotham style of not accepting unfair terms, but instead united and used their home field advantage to beat up all the powerful beings they could summon.
But this was not entirely unreasonable. After all, Gotham was a megacity with a population of millions, and it was normal for a few sorcerers to emerge. With Gotham's advantages in terms of time, location, and people, any sorcerer from Gotham would feel wronged if they were sent to Azkaban, and even working for the Devil King would seem too extreme.
The purest darkness and evil in the entire Space had given birth to a genius in the field of magic, who held a position in the magical realm that was second only to Batman in the superhero world. It was said that when these Angels and Demons were summoned, they were destined to be covered in shit and have a miserable fate.
"Since Gotham can help you hide from your creditors, why didn't you stay there... Oh, my God, what am I saying!" Jason slapped his forehead and said, "Batman in your Space is too sick, you might as well face your creditors."
Hearing this, Constantine sighed with a hint of resentment and said, "What you said is indeed one of the reasons, but the key is, if Angels and Demons don't come here, where will my power come from? Wouldn't I be unable to use magic?"
"Wait, you said that Angels and Demons don't come here, but you're still setting up a magic array to summon Angels?"
"There are always a few stupid Angels," Constantine said as he worked on modifying the Magic Circle. "It's like fishing. Some fish are very difficult to catch because they may have been caught and released by fishermen multiple times. Although fish aren't very smart, they can still remember this."
"But if it's a fish that has just grown up and has never been caught before, it's very easy to catch. Even if it sees that the destination is a cesspit, it might still bite the hook out of curiosity. This is the main reason why I've been able to borrow power—there are no Angels and Demons that are forever stupid, but there are always new Angels and Demons being foolish."
Jason and Tim nodded in understanding. Constantine stood up, clapped his hands, and said, "Okay, I've adjusted the runes on this side and the symbols you mentioned for conducting power. Now, let's see if any stupid fish take the bait."
After Constantine finished speaking, he took two steps back, and Jason and Tim also retreated to the wall. The inverted triangular Magic Circle blinked with a dense white light, and the runes instantly began to operate.
Constantine showed a hint of pride when he saw the previously unlit corner light up, but soon, one of the originally lit corners went out, and the light of the entire Magic Circle blinked a few times before completely disappearing.
"Hiss..."
Constantine took a deep breath in anger, quickly walked onto the Magic Circle, put his hands on his hips, looked around, and muttered, "It shouldn't be like this. Even if the sacred runes have changed their usage method, I've already adjusted the operation of the Magic Circle according to the latest version of the power flow. It shouldn't have failed..."
"Let me see... Good heavens, how has the definition of this rune changed again? How long will it take Heaven to finish the update? Can't a person work in peace anymore?!"
Constantine's complaints were loud, and not only could they be heard in the basement, but even half the street could hear his angry shouts. But his complaints weren't loud enough, at least not in Heaven.
Bruce was standing in a room filled with glowing discs, and he shook his wings and pulled one of the discs over, starting to compile the runes on it.
An angel with peacock-like green wings poked his head into the room, and Bruce looked up at the angel and said, "Raphael, what are you doing here?"
Raphael smiled and raised his hand, showing the fishing line with a fish hook and a big fish caught on it.
Bruce was surprised and raised his eyebrows, saying, "You went fishing in the Garden of Eden again? And you caught such a big one."
"Ramiel called me to go fishing yesterday, but I didn't go. He nagged me all night, so I went with him today. I caught a fish, but he didn't, and he was so angry that he was jumping around. I think tonight won't be peaceful either, so I came here to hide from him. You're researching those runes again."
Bruce nodded and looked down at the rune disc, saying, "Some of these objects are too old, and many of the runes recorded on them are no longer used by angels. I'm eliminating the overly complex ones and trying to create a basic program for them."
"You're really working hard," Raphael said as he walked into the room and looked at the countless dazzling rune discs. "Some things need to be changed... Good heavens! Could this symbol be something Lucifer Morningstar used when he was a child?"
"You're right," Bruce said, pulling over a rune disc for Raphael to see. Raphael only saw two lines like earthworms on it, and Bruce explained, "For example, this rune represents the ocean and tides, but it's actually a drawing that Lucifer Morningstar made on the beach with a tree branch."
"If other life forms want to use this rune, they must first use an entire summoning magic circle to connect to the ocean in the Garden of Eden, then use a Purification Circle to extract the seawater from the Garden of Eden, and then contact an angel to cut off a tree branch from a tree in the Garden of Eden. Then, they must put the seawater and sand into a special magic circle to recreate the scene from that year, and finally, they must use the tree branch to draw the same pattern, with the same curvature and thickness at the end, before this rune can take effect."
"Get rid of it quickly!" Raphael said, covering his forehead. "I feel dizzy just listening to it. Considering human capabilities, efficiency, and lifespan, if they start preparing for this ritual in their youth, they may not even be able to complete it by the time they die."
"That's the truth," Bruce said. "According to the information here, this rune has never been used by any life form other than angels, but apart from that, the parts representing the ocean and tides are completely disconnected. In other words, if believers need these two elements to complete their magic circle, they can only use this one."
Raphael looked up at the countless discs in the room, like a starry sky, and shook his head as he said, "Thank goodness you're here. If Lucifer Morningstar really asked us to modify these things, I would go crazy."
"Lucifer Morningstar probably wouldn't let you touch these things," Bruce said, dragging out his words. "Although there are some good memories of him and God here, there are also..."
Bruce made a long sound, gesturing in front of him as if it was hard to describe. After a while, he finally spoke, "An old father who has lost his son for many years, overpraising his children's somewhat childish childhood, and eagerly wanting to spread his children's genius works to the whole world for everyone to admire."
Raphael's eyes lit up as he looked at the discs, and he became interested. He smiled and said, "Are you saying that there are some of Lucifer Morningstar's dark history here?"
"I didn't say that," Bruce said. "How could our glorious and great Archangel Lucifer Morningstar His Royal Highness have a childish childhood of raising chickens and fighting dogs, and being a Heaven bully in the Garden of Eden?"
