VR experience voting

Recently my wife gave me an Oculus Quest 2 for our anniversary. I've wanted something like this for a long time and I mean I'm impressed. Also it gave me some thought if you know  what I mean.

I want to hear your opinion. How interested are you in VR content? I'm not talking about fully porting the game to VR (it will be too difficult), but about small “experiences” (at first, cause it's pretty new for me too) allowing us to look at things from a new POV.

Focus on making the game. Worry about VR stuff after. As an artist myself, I cannot stress enough the importance of narrowing your focus. You don't get stuff done in a timely fashion when you're hopping around between features (a problem I suffer with at times too).

In my opinion you should "finish" / polish the game first then add supports and other stuff to it VR sup. can wait.

Johnsnoke

the problem is it has to be made and that takes a lot of time, time away to progress the game development, IMO he sould finish the game first polish it etc THEN do vr or other supports coz its only logical to make the game first THEN add to it...

The people voting no don't have a vr headset, you can make it like vrchat where you don't need vr to play but the option is there so people can choose.

Of course! PC content is first

I have no interest in VR, if you want to add it for those that are into it please do but make it OPTIONAL and I'll be a happy camper.

I use valve index. I can use VR on my desk top and programs. If the game has the controllers to use then you could play the game and then auto in a VR section

I think the Quest can be used as Desktop VR headset, yeah. If you haven't yet, try VAM and Captain Hardcore here on patreon. There is a version of Captain Hardcore specifically for the quest I think.

You can only reply to yourself on patreon ;) BTW, get another steam account for these players, I dunno if it's still the case, but last time I checked your friends will see "is playing SteamVR" or "is playing Simple VR Player" if you haven't hidden your game status from friends.

If app runs well on quest 2, It will work the same way on Desktop VR. So it might be helpful regarding to optimization. Also, quest 2 might be used as regular Desktop VR headset with Type-c cable (didn't check it yet)

Oh nice. Thanks for the info riftstorm I'll get one of those. I normally just use vlc for everything. I didn't know how to reply to you so I'm replying to myself. Lol

I found "Simple VR Player" on Steam is the best way to watch "nature documentaries" It's easy to use with just the mouse (or controller) and it has excellent image quality. There is also DeoVR on steam (for free I think)

If you want to develop this for a single integrated platform like the quest: Even though 32.5% of VR headsets on steam at this moment are Quest 2, keep in mind only 2.07% of steam users have a VR headset, so only ~0.67% of players have a quest 2 (even though this is not on steam, it should give you an idea of your possible target group) If you develop something just for Quest 2, it's probable that it wont be relevant for long (compared to if you develop something with openVR) If you don't care about monetizing it, by all means, go for it, I'm sure you will find it fun and you will learn something :)

The quest 2 is fully portable and is just the headset and two handsets. No cables or position sensors. My kids love thiers and use them a bit most everyday. I bought quest 2s for them for that ease of use. Downside to oculus is that big watcher Facebook owns them now. I use an HP reverb 2 but it's tethered system and with the cord use I usually just play sitting. There are some not bad 4k porn videos out. You can stream them and watch on a normal screen and mouse to move the view. I haven't figured out how to watch them like that once downloaded though. They look great on the VR though.

Quest 2 works on his own processor. It's mobile platform in general.

Could be interesting to have some small parts be vr.

In my experience, games that switch from Desktop to VR and back are not convenient to use. The need to put on and put down the headset, rearrange cables and sort out headphones (and eventually even moving from VR space to your desk and back) is not good for immersion. I'm currently backing a couple VR games, and tried out many more. VR is difficult to get right, people use different headsets, different controllers and trackers and you need a good system (GPU) to run it at high enough refresh rate. I'd love to see you pick up some of the elements in this game and create a second, stand alone game for VR, but be aware what you will get into.

That's why I made this voting. You'll never know the true if you don't ask opinion.

Minority of players actually owns VR and I would not buy it just for few games that are actually good
