At the entrance of a secret base in Pennsylvania, Natasha vigorously waved her hand at a massive transport truck and shouted, "Stop over there! Can't you see the signs? There's no more space here; go unload over there..."
"And you, don't park here and block the way. What? You have a lot of cargo? Look around, who here doesn't have a ton of it?... Wait a moment, let me check your cargo hold. Oh my, why so many devices..."
Natasha wrinkled her nose, waved her hand in front of her face to disperse the dust, and leaned into the cargo hold, inspecting the equipment that seemed completely foreign to her. She said, "These things look quite valuable. Well then, go ahead and unload here. Lorna, Lorna! Come over here, we need some help..."
Meanwhile, on the other side of the hill, Polaris flew over impatiently and asked, "What's going on? I'm unloading over there. Goodness, where did all this equipment come from? What have you guys been looting?"
"Don't worry about that now, just use your powers to get these devices inside. Place them next to the previous load. Hurry, the transport plane will be here soon, and we need to move the trucks out after unloading, or they'll block the way."
Polaris shook her head in resignation and extended her hand. With a "click," the cargo bay's connecting mechanisms on both sides of the truck opened.
The entire cargo hold lifted into the air, made a 180-degree turn, and one by one, the devices, as if they had a mind of their own, flew out of the truck's cargo bay and into the enormous warehouse ahead.
The entrance to the base, nestled between the mountains, was quite large, allowing the Helicarrier to come and go freely. Compared to Polaris flying in mid-air, both seemed minuscule in comparison.
With a sudden "whoosh," a streak of light, Blink's figure appeared next to Natasha. She ran her fingers through her hair and asked, "Have both loads from the other entrance been unloaded? When is the transport plane coming?"
Natasha glanced at her watch and replied, "Earlier, Barton went to New Mexico on a mission and hasn't returned yet. This time, he's probably escorting supplies over there. Oh, hold on, he's calling..."
"Hey? Barton, what's up? You're almost here, right? Okay, I got it. You can land here anytime..."
Just as she was saying this, Polaris' voice suddenly echoed from inside the warehouse. She shouted, "Don't let the transport plane land here; there's no space at all!"
Polaris flew out of the warehouse, exclaiming, "We've been stuffing things in here since the day before yesterday, and these devices just keep getting bigger."
"We have a bridge-building machine in the Helicarrier hangar, and on the main elevator, there are two mining machines. Even the repair platform has two single-bucket excavators stuffed in the corners. Every nook and cranny is filled with small equipment. Where is there room for the equipment from the transport plane?"
Natasha rubbed her temples and sighed, saying, "But those people have hidden quite a few bases in Ohio and New Mexico, and they all involve rockets..."
"This warehouse is already the largest one Nick has. The ones in the south aren't even half the size... Forget it, Barton, don't come to New York State. I'll send you a new address; you can go to another warehouse."
After hanging up the phone, Natasha sighed in resignation. Polaris descended from the sky, saying, "I'm really curious where you guys got all this strange equipment. And it keeps coming in a never-ending stream..."
"I suspect you've plundered some small country... Wait, no?"
"What small country has five or six rockets?" Natasha rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. "Those generals must be incredibly wealthy. On average, each general has three secret bases, from what I know. After all these years of military spending, where did they spend it all..."
"These things come from the military?" Polaris widened her eyes, surprised. "You've robbed the military? But isn't that a bit too extreme? Won't they retaliate? Even if Nick Fury is..."
At this point, she suddenly realized and said, "Well, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. is already dead; they won't find anyone to retaliate against."
"How many more trucks are there?" Natasha raised her voice, asking the person nearby. Blink counted for a moment and then replied, "There are about a dozen left."
"Oh, heavens! The warehouse is already full! Where can we possibly put so much stuff?" Polaris rubbed her forehead, feeling a headache coming on. "And some of these devices need to be stored flat, or it will affect their functionality..."
Natasha raised an eyebrow suddenly and said, "Didn't you stack them?"
"How could we stack them?" Polaris asked, and then she explained, "When I was working in the Andromeda Galaxy, I knew that many devices, although capable of heavy-duty work, didn't have the structural integrity to withstand the weight of something on top of them. It would damage them..."
Natasha waved her hand dismissively. "If they break, they break. They'll break sooner or later anyway. I mean, it's not a big deal."
"But..." Polaris was momentarily speechless. "Many of these large devices are worth several hundred million, if not billions of dollars. If we store them the way you're suggesting, we'll probably have to scrap a big portion of them."
"Don't worry about it. If they're prone to fire and explosions, that's good enough," Natasha snapped her fingers, signaling the truck to enter the warehouse. Polaris shrugged, still puzzled but willing to do the job.
After a while, Natasha picked up the phone and said, "Is that so? Alright, I understand. Don't worry; everything will be fine."
The voice of Hill came from the other end of the telephone. Hill said, "The director mentioned that although he's been resurrected, he's experiencing some memory issues as a side effect of the resurrection. So, he needs to go through the warehouse inventory again, and you'll have to provide the materials..."
"Are you all prepared for this? Okay, I understand. I'll inform the director. Thank you, and goodbye."
After Hill hung up the phone, she turned to Nick Fury and said, "Director, Natasha and her team have updated the warehouse inventory records. They should be sending them over in a few days."
Nick nodded and said, "Alright, the aftereffects of the resurrection are making me a bit dizzy. I must ensure that S.H.I.E.L.D.'s assets are securely stored..."
Hill furrowed her brow slightly, but she didn't say anything. However, Nick spoke up, saying, "By the way, did Dr. Schiller come to the base today?"
Hill glanced at the calendar on the side and replied, "Dr. Schiller only comes on even-numbered days, so he won't be at the base until tomorrow. Do you need something from him?"
"Help me make a call and ask if he's available now. I have an important matter to discuss with him," Nick said.
Hill nodded and left. After a while, she returned and said, "Dr. Schiller said he's on his way."
As soon as she finished speaking, Schiller entered the room, and Hill paused for a moment before saying, "Oh, he's here. I won't disturb you. Let me know if you need anything."
With that, Hill left, and Schiller took a seat opposite Nick and asked, "Director, what can I help you with?"
"Nothing much, but as you know, the resurrection has left some memory trauma. You're an exceptional psychologist, so I wanted to ask you how long this might last," Nick said.
Schiller paused for a moment, squinting as if he were focusing his attention on something, and then he said, "Director, from your current condition, I don't foresee any significant issues. However, the trauma to your memory may not be sudden, so it might require long-term observation to..."
"As long as it's not a major problem," Nick smiled and stood up. "Let's get to the business. The Avengers have suffered significant losses—Iron Man, Captain America, and Spider-Man, the pillars of New York's superheroes, all died in a short period. Fortunately, we had a backup plan."
"How is the top-secret plan you and Natasha are leading? I'm referring to the Tahiti Project. I recall that this plan should have made some preliminary progress by now," Nick inquired.
Schiller nodded and said, "Correct. The GH325 Medicine can already bring recently deceased humans back to life to some extent, so we can use this plan..."
However, just as he was about to continue, Schiller's phone suddenly rang. After answering, his expression turned grave, and he said, "What did you say? The laboratory was attacked? Wasn't it heavily guarded? How could... all the Medicine has been stolen? Damn it! What have you people done?"
Schiller hung up the phone and said with a grim expression, "Bad news, Director. During your period of sacrifice, those foolish generals and politicians, in their eagerness to resurrect superheroes ahead of time, attacked our laboratory."
"They took all the Medicine we produced, and now all usable Medicine is missing. Moreover, I'm afraid they won't follow the proper procedures to store these precious Medicine..."
Schiller shook his head and continued, "If we want to produce new batches, it will take a considerable amount of time..."
Nick paused for a moment, but then he spoke, "Don't worry. I was prepared. I moved a batch of GH325 Medicine as soon as it was produced. During my sacrifice, a secret laboratory was still operational."
"The newly developed GH671 Medicine has reached a level where it can perfectly resurrect humans. Now, we just need to locate the corpses of those Superheroes, and we can perfectly resurrect them."
"I've dispatched trustworthy agents to investigate the whereabouts of the corpses. I believe you'll be reunited with your friends soon."
Schiller looked surprised and said, "Perfectly resurrect humans already? So fast? I remember it was not..."
"In fact, we all know that the magic of this Medicine lies in its ingredients—alien tissue. As long as the active ingredients are sufficient, it can naturally resurrect humans."
"Before this, I had hidden some of the alien tissue, just waiting for this day to use it to resurrect the Avengers' Superheroes."
Schiller nodded in understanding and said, "Director, you have a far-sighted vision."
"Now then..." Nick stood up and looked out at New York through the window. "Let's prepare to welcome the return of the Superheroes."
The screen froze on Nick's serious expression, and the people sitting on the sofa in front of the screen had various questions. Peter and Steve were the first to turn their heads and look at Nick Fury, who sat beside them.
Then, they turned their heads toward the screen again and then back to Nick beside them. Peter scratched his head and said, "Is... the person in the livestream your double? Director Fury, why do you two look so alike?"
Steve narrowed his eyes, realizing that from the outside, he couldn't distinguish between the two Nick Furys.
Stark, however, noticed even more. He spoke up, saying, "If he's not your double, how does he know about the top-secret Tahiti Project plan? Didn't you say that only you, Schiller, and Natasha were aware of it?"
"If it's a bioenhanced being with special abilities impersonating you, he couldn't possibly know so many secrets that only you know... What's going on here?"
Nick, sitting on the sofa, smiled and said, "Keep watching; he'll explain more than just this."
