F/VoH Ch 91: Staying in the City of Bertord
Added 2024-10-19 12:48:25 +0000 UTCAbove the main door, a wooden sign with elegant carvings reading "Rose Moon" hangs, confirming that they have arrived at the right place.
They exchanged glances for a moment, ensuring that this place was safe enough before deciding to enter. The old wooden door creaked softly as they pushed it open, bringing them into an inn that immediately offered a different atmosphere from the hustle and bustle of the city outside.
Inside, the ambiance was calmer. Although the place appeared simple, its cleanliness was evident from the well-maintained wooden floors and the softly painted walls. The low ceiling was adorned with small lanterns that emitted a warm glow, making the room feel cozy.
A reception desk was located on the left side, while several small dining tables were scattered in the central area. Some guests appeared to be sitting, enjoying their meals or chatting casually, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Ryan observed the lively scene. Though not overly luxurious, this place was full of life. The guests staying here came from various backgrounds, ranging from traveling merchants to weary travelers after a long journey.
This contrast was stark when compared to the conditions of the streets outside, which were filled with homelessness and poverty. Inside this inn, the atmosphere seemed to create a small world of its own, far removed from the chaos of Bertord.
“At least this place looks better than I imagined,” Charlotte whispered softly, glancing around the room with a sense of relief.
Ellina nodded in agreement. “Yes, it’s not bad. Clean and lively. It seems we will be safe for a while.”
Ryan directed his gaze to the reception desk, where a middle-aged woman with a friendly smile stood. “Let’s make sure we get a room first,” Ryan said before walking over to the receptionist.
The woman greeted them with a wide smile. “Welcome to the Rose Moon Inn. Do you need a room for tonight?”
Ryan nodded. “We need four rooms, clean and with basic amenities. We might stay more than one night.”
The receptionist nodded while flipping through a small notebook on her desk. “We have a few vacant rooms. Fortunately, there are still rooms that meet your needs. How long do you plan to stay?”
Ryan thought for a moment. “We’re not sure yet. Maybe a few days, maybe longer.”
As he completed the booking process, Ryan glanced back at his group, ensuring everyone was okay. This place might just be a temporary stop, but amidst the dangerous mission they were on, a little comfort and peace were very valuable.
Ryan looked at the beautiful woman in front of him—the innkeeper who appeared calm yet firm. The confidence in her eyes showed no hint of doubt as Ryan pondered for a moment, formulating the right words in his mind. He understood that, although the atmosphere seemed relaxed, this decision would affect their next steps.
“Book it for one week,” Ryan said in a low but firm tone. “We will reconsider after that, but for now, just one week.” The words slipped from Ryan’s mouth with deliberate caution. He didn’t want to give the impression that they would stay longer than necessary, even though there were no definite plans about when they would leave.
The woman nodded, a professional smile still gracing the innkeeper’s face. “Of course,” she replied in a gentle tone, her voice maintaining its professionalism. “Would you like breakfast, dinner, or both? We also provide lunch, but there will be an additional charge. What would you like?”
Ryan observed the way the woman spoke—so meticulous, with a tone that was almost unaffected by any emotion.
