You really feel for older Sammie. Since he and Smoke were technically the only survivors of that night, it makes sense why he asked Stack how he felt about that day before the sun went down. He had to hold on to those thoughts and feelings for the next 60 years. And I love how older Sammie has a similar clothing style to Smoke.

I agree with you guys, I could've done without the vampires. The vampires themselves are actually the least interesting part of the film for me. But of course they're a vehicle for telling a story about and exploring the themes of race, religion, music, cultural appropriation, community and more. I liked this film very much the first time I saw it, but every time I watch it after, I just love it more each time. The ending scene where Stack and Sammie talk about that day being the best of their life.. I think that's the only time I can remember shedding a tear in the theater. Such a powerful scene. The music, the cinematography, the costume design, I think it will win Oscars in at least 2 of those. The most stylish and soulful film of 2025. The performances were great too all-round but MBJ playing such different twins, is just amazing. Hope we get Nosferatu soon, we were blessed with 2 all-time vampire films in the space of 4 months! While I love watching these films with you, I think there are certain big films that you should be allowed to enjoy on the big screen, if you have the time. It truly makes a world of difference.

Miles Caton won Best Young Actor at the Critics Choice Awards tonight and the film won several other awards including Best Original Screenplay and Best Score. Ryan Coogler has spoken about his and his parents' love for the genre-bending films of John Carpenter and you can see the influence on the horror elements of the film. There's nods specifically to Assault on Precinct 13 and The Thing (the garlic eating scene recalling the blood test from the latter film).

Excellent film. It says so much about the output of black people and how it's desired and exploited by outside groups, vampiric or otherwise. You can view it simply for what it is, a horror film from a specific perspective, or you can see it as commentary on Hollywood or the entertainment industry as a whole, especially if you read into what Ryan Coogler faced when negotiating the ownership rights of this film with WB (the studio that helped him produce it) and the skewed/biased reporting of it by entertainment news and articles. It's easily one of my favorite films of the year, and it would still be just for the music and performances alone. But I really enjoyed it's take on vampires as well. What I love most about vampire lore isn't the horror and gore, but the tragedy and melancholy of that eternal existence. You feel something for these vampires, even though they're doing a lot of killing and manipulation. Especially with Remmick the main vamp, he's the big bad but I've spent a lot of time thinking about how lonely he must be, living 1000+ years without his real people and his real homeland, which he said were taken from him by force. He just wants to go back home, but he can't -- something has been lost, forever. And once again, you get some real-world parallels to the Irish experience (without the vampirism lol), which Remmick explicitly is. Just an incredibly well-made film.

My interpretation of the film is that it is Ryan Coogler wrestling with the choices available to him in the film industry as a young up-and-coming Black artist. Although it would hypothetically make more sense for the two twins to represent the two sides of Coogler, I'd argue it's Sammie and Stack. Sammie is the purer path, playing because he is driven to play, carving out his own niche and staying there until his time runs out, and the juke joint and the characters that end up stuck inside it represent a community of like-minded people. On the other side, Stack is the version of the artist that chooses to assimilate, like Coogler going from personal projects like Fruitvale Station to making movies for the MCU, a change facilitated by vampires that would like to cash in on the power and cultural cache of his community's art. As we see from Stack and Mary at the end, eternity isn't entirely bad, but it does mean getting in bed with bad people (like Remmick suggesting they turn Hogwood into one of them), chasing the trends across decades, and possibly losing a part of one's soul. It's interesting too, because Coogler has seen both sides of this and doesn't seem like he regrets the fact that he's made both personal and commercial movies, which to me is the reason Stack and Mary seem relatively peaceful at the end, even if they have regrets.

I can say so much about this movie, but I'll just say thank you for reacting to it, finally. It was definitely my favorite movie in 2025. If it wasn't the music, was the performances and cinematography. Up to date, Ryan Coogler (the director) and Michael B. Jordan made 5 movies together (Fruitvale Station, Creed, both Black Panthers and this), so you've seen 4 out of 5. I totally recommend Fruitvale Station, but just know it's a hard watch since it's based on a true story. I wonder what Stack and Mary would be up to today? Probably making a reaction channel. 🤣

I love this film, my favorite part is the love story between Annie and Elijah.

Jen Barnes

I enjoyed this film, but honestly, I don't get the people who said its the best film of the year.

Civil rights commentary disguised as a vampire movie, or movie about vampires disguised as a civil rights commentary? Neither. Both. Yep. Fantastic fucking movie.

Really cool movie! Thoroughly enjoyed it in the theater. I hope you guys watch 'Weapons' too sometime soon 🙏, It's so good!
