Pluribus Season 1 Episode 2 'Pirate Lady' Full TV Reaction!!

Comments

I think what's most incredible about this episode is that there were no words spoken in the first 12+ minutes. This show is so captivating and thought provoking that I didn't even notice! I only read about it after I watched the whole episode.

Dominick Rodriguez

This show is so interesting to think about. On one hand, there are some attractive aspects of the new situation (lack of crime/racism/exploitation, equality, efficient use of available resources, etc.), but the negatives are untold. Wouldn't it mean an end to innovation? exploration? taking risks? creating art or music or literature? It seems that civilization would grind to a halt and resemble an ant farm.

Jen Barnes

The mother is certainly delusional about the situation, she frustrated me! It is interesting to think if Helen had survived, how much more would she push against the hive.

MarisoL

yeah im totally getting obsessed with this show! after this season ends, its gonna suck with no new episodes lol

Will D

No spoilers, but can't wait until you get up to episode 6, wow!

Jesse

I can absolutely see your point! I think everyone needs a refresher including us that this is Vince Gilligan show, so take a look at your main character with that in mind haha Interesting! I hadn't thought about what would happen in turning them back, would we have the same little seizure-like state? All good questions, and I completely agree it's what makes this show so incredible already! -Sam

People's reaction to Carol is always interesting to read (at least on Reddit). Many see her as justified in her actions; others see her as a monster. My impression at this stage in the series is constant frustration with her, to the point of actively disliking her. I understand she's grieving and has anger and drinking issues, but I wish she had just taken the time to understand the 'Hive' before making snap judgments and throwing tantrums, which essentially kill millions. She's (for now) clueless yet thinks she's "in charge". She may well be right in the end, but it makes her character hard to empathize with now. My other thoughts are: If she finds a way to reverse the Joining, does she expect things to go back to normal? Everyone is already part of a single Hive mind, and separating them back to individuals won't revert their integrated knowledge, will it? Does she view the 'Hive' as a single entity, and each 'hived' human as having no value as an individual anymore? Based on her conversation with Laxmi and the rest, it looks like she does believe this. But is that really true? Are individual ants of no value to the whole ant colony? Is Carol also just as culpable for killing millions of humans in the process of turning everyone back into individuals, as the Hive is for killing a billion humans? That's quite a kill count for ostensibly a "hero" of the series. These are provocative questions, which is the brilliance of the show (barring my irritation with Carol).

One point about Mr. Diabate that no one brings up is that his "required to please" harem includes the minds of all of the world's children. I also agree that Zosia hesitated a bit to long when Diabate asked if he was sexually assaulting them. He makes me angry because he is refusing to take moral responsibility for any of his actions. He only sees the world as he wants to see it. He is the definition of a narcissistic hedonist.

I feel like Daniel would def be Koumba in this world haha 😂 Interested to see what the zoo thing means, and if the animals are really under the control of the virus in the same way humans are

Nixonsghost

Good point! Like do no harm, but then put these animals in a position to do just that. -Sam

TBR Schmitt

YES! I'm shocked that nobody else is with her, like not a single other person! -Sam

So listening to the post game now, and the point about the Zoo animals is interesting. Why just let them out why not try to put them back in their natural habitat? It seems a bit at odds with how they do everything else.

Kyle Baker

I'm pretty much with you guys. All those other people are not grasping the situation. Diabaté doesn't think about the fact that, as soon as they figure out how to make him part of the hive, his little adventure is over. And all the others take for granted what's being told to them... "it's all wonderful"... but what if its not. (besides that fact that this hive taking over isn't good anyways)
