This movie is fantastic. It really puts you into the mindset that led to the Salem Witch Trials and gives you some sense of how that world was. I read a book about the puritans last year, and I was surprised to come across the last lines of the brother, on the sick bed, right before he dies. Those were actually the actual last words of a puritan preacher. Blew my mind

2025-09-20 08:40:04 +0000 UTCDefinitely check out Nosferatu and The Northman. The Lighthouse is very existential and a little hard to digest as an earlier Robert E film. I think it is great, but I would probably put it last on your list for his filmography once you get a real feel for how he tells stories.

2025-08-26 17:09:10 +0000 UTCJust got around to watching your fine reaction. This is certainly an “effective” film. I think it’s a Horror masterpiece. It’s very basic and pared down, which has been the key to so many great efforts. The accuracy of the time and place — the hard lifestyle, the sets and costumes, are characters in themselves. Not in the least a “comfort” experience, but magnificent in its own way.
