Our Reservation is called Six Nations of the Grand River, Oshweken Ontario, about 30 mins outside of Brantford Ontario. He grow there for a bit, my grandmother on my mom’s side her mother knew Graham’s parents, my uncle Sidney knew Graham growing up and were friends for a bit. He’s also a great uncle of one my cousins that passed away 20 years ago, he was at the funeral and my parents were sitting right behind him during the ceremony. My tribe is Tuscarora, my parents took me to see this film back in 1990, I was 6 years old, I remember sitting there, not moving, not asking to go to the bathroom during the 3 hour run time. When I got older I asked my dad and mom why they took me to see this film at such a young age. They said it’s because it was the first film to show our Indian ancestors and culture in a positive light, and actually had Indian actors and actresses playing themselves in this film. This film moves me to tears every time I’ve watched since I was a kid. It’s sad to see time and place where we could have coexisted together and been force to help bring our people together and our country. I’m 100% American Indian, as I’ve gotten older, I’ll be 41 this September, have this feeling in me to become closer with my tribe and my people, obviously I assimilated because I grew up in world where my culture relocated to the historical non fiction books at Barnes and Noble. Yes are we getting more Representation within the film industry, we are. It’s still not enough. Love Kevin’s respectfulness towards our culture and our tribes. Truly thank you for reacting to this beautiful film. Hopefully someday you get to see Thunderheart, another great Indian film, Starring Graham Greene and Val Kilmer. Also Graham Greene received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for this film but lost to Joe Pesci for Goodfellas that year.
