Clueless (1995) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

It took me a little extra time to get to watch this, because I wanted to upgrade my digital copy to the new 4K remaster. Thankfully, digital media's week is Tuesday to Monday, and today the 4K digital went on sale for $10. As others have mentioned, this is a loose adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma, which is about a matchmaker who wants to help others but then goes too far and has to clean up the messes she's made while working out her own romantic interests. There are a handful of other high school/teen movies based on classic literature, but my other favorite (and something I'd love to see on the channel someday) is 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), which is based on William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, and is by the same writers as Legally Blonde. Breckin Meyer, who played Travis, is in many things, including the amusing comedy Rat Race (2001) and the TV show "Franklin and Bash," but he's probably most famous for being Seth Green's buddy, which led to him being a major part of Green's TV show "Robot Chicken." After the movie was a hit, the film was adapted into a surprisingly successful TV show that ran for three seasons. Alicia Silverstone had a deal elsewhere that prevented her from playing Cher, but most of the other cast returned, including Stacey Dash as Dionne, Donald Faison as Murray, Elisa Donovan as Amber, and Twink Caplan as Ms. Geist and Wallace Shawn as Mr. Hall (at least for the first season). Brittany Murphy, Breckin Meyer, and Paul Rudd all made cameos as different characters on the show. Unfortunately, the show has never been released on home video, so there's no way to watch it. As of a couple of months ago, a new "Clueless" TV show is in development that would bring back Alicia Silverstone as Cher. Last but not least, because Dan loves Donald Faison, and you guys enjoyed Breckin Meyer in this, *and* you like Legally Blonde, I'll again make a real dark-horse pitch for Josie and the Pussycats (2001), which features both Donald Faison, Breckin Meyer, and Meyer's future "Robot Chicken" collaborator Seth Green in a key cameo. Both films were produced by the same guy, so when they talk about how "orange is the new pink" in Legally Blonde, that's a reference back to Josie and the Pussycats.
