2025-04-29 01:55:06 +0000 UTCObvs my favorite female-directed film of the last decade or so is Sweet Bean, which I've nominated for the spin wheel a couple times and recently persuaded Birdie to watch. I've only seen a couple other Naomi Kawase films besides that one, but her approach is uniquely gentle and plain letting you kinda forget you're actually watching a movie.

2025-04-29 01:13:16 +0000 UTCZDT has a full watch-along (but no YT edit yet) from earlier this month, and THL just won last month's war film poll, so a reaction to that is coming soon.

2025-04-29 00:54:47 +0000 UTCSo, y'all have already done The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty? I just automatically went scrolling to choose the movie that was the first to win Best Director for a woman, and it's not here. Already done?
