Better Call Saul Season 4 Episode 2 'Breathe' Full TV Reaction!!

In my mind, Jimmy never intended for the insurance premium increase to kill Chuck, I think he did it to inconvenience him monetarily the same way he was being impacted. He probably felt that his rate increase was because of what Chuck did to him, so turn about is fair play by notifying the Insurance company of his condition, which Chuck was obviously concealing from them. Kind of weird for a guy that values truth isn't it? That he didn't notify the malpractice carrier of how he was, right? If the roles were reversed and Jimmy had a condition that Chuck felt could impact how he practiced he probably would have notified the carrier as well. It was like when Jimmy transposed the numbers on the Mesa Verde documents. He said he expected he would just say oops I made a mistake and move on. Here, he and Howard could have paid through the nose the premium increase, so pushing him out was on Howard. But he decided to buy him out. Chuck, in turn, could have done any number of other things, but he chose to kill himself. I don't think Howard should feel any guilt either. Chuck made the ultimate decision and is the only 1 respnsible.

I think Howard's guilt is real. Not sure how I feel about Kim sticking it to Howard overall, but I do think she's correct that Howard was also trying to absolve himself of that guilt in a somewhat selfish way, although not intentionally so.

An abolitely essential movie for people who like crime movies. I know some critics consider it the most representative example of film noir. I've seen it on polls here and there but it never wins.

We love TBR & Sam’s channel!

I don't think Kim was angry at Howard because of Jimmy's "lack of communication", I think it's pretty obvious that Kim is worried about Jimmy because she can see Jimmy's in pain and that Chuck's death has deeply affected him to a point where he's repressing his feelings. Kim was angry at Howard for telling Jimmy about Chuck's suicide because she felt it was a deeply personal and sensitive matter that should not have been revealed, especially so soon after Chuck's death, and that it was unnecessary to bring up such a painful topic at a time when Jimmy was already grieving; essentially, she felt Howard was being insensitive and selfish for only thinking about his own guilt.

I used to believe Howard was 100% sincere about coming to Jimmy about his theory. But knowing that Howard is also 100% about image, it’s very possible he was unloading guilt to make himself feel better, either conscious or not. And regarding Kim unloading on Howard, I always believed Howard was just the recipient of her frustration at Jimmy for not communicating with her about his feelings. Kim is someone who wants to be in control and she has none right now. So couple that Jimmy frustration along with her personal history with Howard punishing her, she exploded on Howard who was the only person she could do that to.

Regarding the copier guys, I think Jimmy had zero respect for them because just like his dad, they fell for a scam, his sell job (hence calling them suckers). He probably also unloaded his anger over everything recent on them since he couldn’t do it to Chuck, Kim or even Howard.

Julian San

I don’t entirely disagree. But I also think Kim went off on Howard because she was frustrated with Jimmy’s lack of communication with her. She saw how down Jimmy was and then saw how the 180 he did. And she’s not getting any answers. So she unloaded on Howard, partly due to Jimmy, partly due to how Howard treated her with doc reviews and desk moving.

This one has another one of those movie references. Jimmy interviews at Neff Copiers, which is a reference to Walter Neff, the protagonist of Billy Wilder's iconic film noir, Double Indemnity (1944). There's obviously way more to it, but the movie is about a working man who gets caught up in a criminal scheme -- a broad-strokes arc that he and Jimmy McGill have in common. I know many patrons would love to see a reaction to it (and unlike the Hitchcock movies that keep winning noir polls, there will be absolutely no debate over whether or not this falls into the genre).

Albuquerque Isotopes air freshener in the taxi is from there minor league baseball team ( triple A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies). Fun fact its name is taken from the Simpsons Homer worked as a mascot for the Springfield Isotopes and which he threaten to relocate the team to Albuquerque . So they took the joke and named them that

I go back and forth on Jimmy's reaction in episode 1. On one hand I think that his emotional state is a con that plays out exactly like the one at the insurance office except, we as the audience don't get clued in. On the other hand, I agree with others that as soon as he sees a chance to clear his conscience, he shoves it all on Howard.

Mike Medaugh

I think Jimmy was very aware that Chuck kicked over the lantern on his own. Jimmy thought the trial and the insurance stuff was what drove him to do it. He was so guilty and quiet for the first episode. And then Howard came along and gave a reason why it was his fault instead of Jimmy's. Jimmy now had someone other than himself to blame, and the the lifting of the guilt caused him to.... overcorrect, shall we say.

TGrimace

I LOVED how Kim unloaded on Howard and I agree with her..I believe Jimmy also knew what Howard was doing hence Jimmy's "your cross to bear" response. Howard was largely trying to unload his own guilt onto Jimmy, even though he may or may not have consciously realized it; by sharing this sensitive information, he goes over to their place to unload his guilt and centers his own mourning over Jimmy's. He goes over there basically to have them console him. Like Kim said, he makes it about himself and then unloads a theory that did not need to be shared at that time.

Joe Lazarus

I think all three - Jimmy, Chuck, and Howard - bear responsibility for it all. Jimmy started things at the insurance company by narking on Chuck. The insurance company might have found out about Chuck's meltdown another way but Jimmy did it with malice. Chuck is at fault for threatening a lawsuit against the insurance company and later actually suing HHM and he acted in his own interest. Howard did what he did to protect the firm, although he didn't consider what it would do to Chuck.
