It's a distant second, but I'm still thrilled it actually finished second! Hope that bodes well for an eventual reaction. It really is one of Newman's finest films.

Paul Cox

The World According to Garp ... you may not like it, but you will not NOT be entertained.

Indy Traveler

Just pointing out The Verdict is doing well on the poll. AND you thought it sounded like a great movie! Just saying...

YoureMrLebowski

Backdraft (1991)

fire12wife

Battle: Los Angeles (2011)

christopher brown

80s Fantasy Poll Flash Gordon The Neverending Story Krull Labyrinth The Dark Crystal Time Bandits Masters of the Universe Splash Weird Science The Adventures of Baron Munchausen Ladyhawke Dragonslayer Teen Wolf Brazil

Jason Dolan

I think a really underrated Film is "The Pledge" from 2001 with Jack Nicholson ... Great Thriller under the Radar ... Another one is "Tightrope" from 1984 with Clint Eastwood and "Against All Odds" from 1984 With Jeff Bridges

Florian Meier

Let's put "Death to Smoochy" on a poll. It's one of the funniest films out there with Robin Williams, and Edward Norton.

Chris Baldwin

Black Dynamite is a parody of the Dolemite movies. Most young people don't have a clue about Dolemite. If they did, Black Dynamite is way funnier

Mr. Chumpus

Likely

Rapid Fire (1992)

IDENTITY has got to be the most underrated movies out there! Why? Cause it has suspense?Cause it's a thriller? Cause it has murder? Cause it has an amazing cast? Cause it has more twists and turns than a California freeway? YES!!! SAM, DANIEL, you got to, got to, before you have any food, before you breathe, SEE THIS MOVIE! 😉👍

Lou@Jersey

Timecop is definitely an underrated Van Damme film and Leaving Las Vegas is one of Nicolas Cage's best performance

Ken Veader

State Of Grace was my first Gary Oldman movie. He made quite an impression. Unfortunately it's a gangster movie that came out at the same time as Goodfellas and Miller's Crossing, so it didn't get nearly enough attention.

Scott CineRam

Need to put 'The Adventures of Tintin' (2011) on one of these underrated polls if you haven't seen it already!

jim Howe

Also, what about that sweet pocket of Travolta films like "Phenomenon" or "Michael"? I'm not saying that because I'm a Travolta fan boy, but he did some GREAT movies at a certain point in his career, these two being favorites.

Presto2222

Secondhand Lions, October Sky or Crash (2004)

Presto2222

The Edge (1997). A great survival/adventure film, with some mystery elements to make it even more interesting. I think it's a masterpiece. I wish more people had seen it! It's currently the film I choose each month for the spin wheel!

Future Boy

Why does nobody react to this? It's really entertaining

Mike Miner

Fletch (1985), a forgotten gem.

Boris-N

I see. Thanks for the info. Yeah, it seems like the members prefer fairly recent movies. Sometimes too mainstream. But it is what it is.

Boris-N

Haven't seen that movie in years but it is always one that pops in my head from time to time. Clearly it has impacted me and stuck with me for some reason.

Forrest

Black Dynamite (2009) is probably the funniest movie of the past couple of decades, but marketing really dropped the ball and it was only released in a handful of theatres.

MR

Oh, Locke! That is definitely one of the most actually underrated ones. Tom Hardy is very good in that, specifically because of the physical demands of his acting in that film... ...As the entire film takes place in a car (except, I believe, the opening scene... which is before he got in the car 🤭). Oh, and Tom Hardy is the only one in the car. The only physical actor in the entire film. Sooo. Worth it. I really liked that film when I first saw it, and I've rewatched it several times with others who also found it gripping. Underrated is apt. Edit: I want to go ahead and try to get in front of the "spoiler" that its all in a car, and him being the only physical actor - I state this not to spoil anything, but to characterize as unmentioned aspect of the production that, I believe, is necessary to better compell people to check it out. While these two things are integral to the story, they're not "spoilers", it's just the nature of the story it's trying to tell. What Locke's story is about *is* the story. He's just a man that got off work and got in his car.

Trepanation21

I would add 'Dracula Untold' And 'Dog soldiers' to this list.

Kingdom of Heaven (directors cut… theatrical cut is bad)

Clueless Morgan

Chef!!

James

The Verdict is one of my favorites and I have strongly recommended it to D&S long ago, sounds corny, but its the movie that made me want to become an attorney. :)

Chris Bruneau

Rounders needs to win, but u guys DEFINITELY need to watch State of Grace at some point

Red Tail Zephier

what a random list. google generated? :)

Birdie Num Num

The Fall (2006) by Tarsem Singh Donnie Darko (2001) Conspiracy (2001) The Witch (2015) Basketball Diaries (aka The Streets of New York) Three Amigos Exorcist 3 (a contiuation of the first one. And the second is really bad)

Clueless Morgan

I know it won't make it through but I gotta go Spartan here. The dialogue is just on another level. Like all his films. (Okay. So I chipped in for Rounders too. Sue me.)

Jay Davis

there have been 2 noir polls before, and both were in 2023. type film noir in the 'search posts" bar if you are curious to see what films were on there. and yeah 2 hitchcocks won handily, beating the likes of Double Indemnity, Sunset Blvd, The Big Sleep, The Third Man, Touch of Evil, The Killing and others. Older film polls generally have less engagement(for example the recent Action film and horror film polls both had 750 total votes each, but the film noir polls only had between 450-550 votes each. I recall one person commented "I've never heard of any of these films, so I'll sit this one out."

Birdie Num Num

oooh Spartan. you two would really like that one.

Ed R

(Although, that was before I watched Lisztomania lol)

Paul Cox

It's always my answer when I'm asked the question "is there a movie you actually hate?"

Paul Cox

Timecop is a classic great movie like any of the other awesome movies of the 90s. Dunno how it's underrated. I think about it every time I t ell Siri to "navigate home."

Alex

I have only seen Leaving Las Vegas and if there is a more depressing film I have not seen it.

thansen

Rounders is a must watch poll or no poll

Mr. Chumpus

wow i voted for the leader..............i love rounders

christopher b swanson

It is soo quotable

mikethemotormouth

Oh, actually: Purple Noon and The Talented Mr. Ripley are based on the same book. The American Friend and Ripley's Game are based on a different book.

Tyler Foster

If there's a Hitchcock film on it, everything else is cooked. (Hopefully they're through all the big Hitchcock films that could sweep in and grab the medal.)

Paul Cox

I'd like to suggest a poll for Film noir. What do you think?

Boris-N

"I was raised by wolves."

Tyler Foster

We've seen both! Agreed both great, underrated films! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I actually haven't seen Purple Noon and I guess the impression that I had was that while it is also adapted from the same novel, it took much larger liberties, to the point where maybe it was more "inspired by the novel" than anything.

Tyler Foster

I love Chef. Always makes me hungry haha

Javier B

Isn't Purple Noon the first time it was adapted for film? I really need to get many more Alain Delon films under my belt, and that's one of them.

Paul Cox

I doubt Spartan has any chance of winning a Patreon poll, but damn, that's such a fun movie. It's got a peach of a Val Kilmer performance and some of my favourite hard-boiled Mamet dialogue. I think about lines like "You don't want to go in the desert" and "You've got to set your motherfucker to receive" all the time.

Henry Graham

Pretty good list of underrated films. Can't wait to see which one wins.

Lee N.

So many good choices, hard to pick one. Hmmm, Rounders, Time Cop, The Verdict (one of Paul Newman's best IMO), Stardust, Leaving Las Vegas (you won't watch it twice). Gotta be The Verdict for me, but you should watch them all in a movie marathon.

Opie Wan

Soldier (1998) Street Fighter (1994) The Hidden (1987)

christopher brown

The Falcon and the Snowman (1985), Sean Penn's best performance

Boris-N

You should remove Ripley's Game from future polling until you've seen The Talented Mr. Ripley. Ripley's Game is sort of like a half-sequel, in that it is based on a book that comes after the book that The Talented Mr. Ripley is based on. It's not technically a sequel, but it would still probably be more ideal to see The Talented Mr. Ripley first...and potentially The American Friend, the much more widely-seen and acclaimed film that adapted the book that Ripley's Game is based on back in 1977.

Tyler Foster

They've seen Game Night

Tyler Foster

Game Night (2018) action/comedy and Ready or Not (2019) action/horror/comedy are a couple of newerish underrated films.

Rob M

Had to put one of my votes for Tge Verdict. Newman is amazing. You should also give Absence of Malice a shot.

Smooticus

I knew when I voted I was going to see Rounders way out front. People see something in that movie I never have *shrug* Happy to vote for The Verdict, though

Paul Cox

Van Dammes most successful film. Timecop all the way 😎 “Casualties of War (1989)” definitely underrated, would like to continue to request 😊
