Some great suggestions here. Next time you might interested in Das Experiment, C.R.A.Z.Y. and Cinema Paradiso

Yann Laliberté

Once Were Warriors (1995)

YoureMrLebowski

all 3 polls separated by 1-2 votes! that must be a first.

Birdie Num Num

Yes please, Hero

Tyler Foster

Hero (2002) or House of Flying Daggers (2004)

Shepherd Kelley

It’s outstanding, but it’s helpful to have some basic knowledge of WWII history, or specifically the end of it in terms of Germany. Not necessary, but it would make the story more meaningful. I don’t think there will ever be a better depiction of life inside Hitler’s bunker as defeat becomes inevitable. And the story comes from a remarkable woman who was there, as Hitler’s personal secretary.

David Wilkins

Bruno Ganz is in it, so it can't be bad.

Paul Cox

Cinema Paradiso is a beautiful movie with an amazing score. Great for all movie lovers

Eric Frazee

The only reason I picked Downfall is the meme. I have no idea if its any good.

Sean

So the Spike Lee-Denzel Washington remake of Kurosawa's High and Low is apparently coming out in the summer from A24, maybe this year is a good time to check out the original? It would be a shame to see the remake before the original(if the remake interests you - guessing there will be a trailer soon)

Birdie Num Num

Yes, much better than the U.S. remake.

David Wilkins

I know what you mean but I'd like to see reactions to more challenging movies. There is too much mainstream.

Boris-N

I would love for you guys to see the 1994 Hong Kong classic “Chungking Express" by director Won Kar-Wai

Ken Veader

Both Japanese choices (Yojimbo , Tampopo) are exellent and the best on this list imo

Ken Veader

I voted for DOWNFALL before I saw RUN LOLA RUN was there. I actually saw that in the theater and it was something of a smash for a foreign film.

Antmovies

I love Fassbinder. That might be too much for a reaction channel tho.

Antmovies

These are correct.

Antmovies

Good Bye Lenin would be a great addition one day

Matthias Goetzke

You make some good points. I was probably following a line of thought regarding what elements usually attract the largest number. City of God, not nearly so much in a quintessential “popular” poll, whereas mystical creatures … that would be a more natural attraction. I’ve never been much for official, published lists. But I am very jaded when it comes to popular polls.

David Wilkins

Really? I wasn't aware that Brotherhood was considered that popular. City of God is #25 on imdb's top 250 which is a pretty mainstream list imo. While Brotherhood of the Wolf isn't close to the top 250. Also City of God recently had a sequel miniseries that aired on HBO max.

Birdie Num Num

Interesting results so far. I’m really surprised that City of God is running so high, and that Brotherhood of the Wolf is running so low. It’s defying most popular poll trends. But one way or another, you really should react to Brotherhood at some point. It’s a story and visual feast.

David Wilkins

Downfall, all the way.

Neal Romanek

Some French film suggestions starring Jean Reno that I watched after seeing him in (Leon : The Professional) :- 1990 (La Femme Nikita) only co-star Thriller/Action, 1993 ( Les Visiteurs) Comedy/Fantasy, 2001 (Wasabi) Comedy/Action, 2003 (Tais-toi !) Comedy/Crime, 2010 (22 Bullets) Action/Thriller,

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

I recommend that anybody working out at the gym should listen to the Run Lola Run soundtrack while working out. That movie is one big burst of energy! I love it!

Scott Kerr

Thanks Paul!

Allister Fiend

You're gonna want to add some Ingmar Bergman to the list. The usual suspects are The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries, but I'd go with Hour of the Wolf if you want a complete mindf$&k.

Jimmie V

Oh man, Incendies 😮

Trepanation21

I really hope so

Florian Meier

Run Lola Run is such a German Classic .. As a german i hope you will watch it

Florian Meier

Me too! It's my favorite film of the last 15 years or so

Nick Sneddon

Lots of great options on this poll. I'd forgotten about "Tampopo". What a good movie.

Dee Aitch

CTHD here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KlLH3uTDCM

Paul Cox

City Of Lost Children (French), or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Chinese)

Allister Fiend

Dang! I keep suggesting The Intouchables (2011) for the spin wheel and it never wins! Now I see it here and it's hardly voted for. Bummer. lol Guess I'll keep my hopes up for the spin wheel!

Forrest

Well, definitely consider Memories of Murder, which is also by Bong Joon Ho (as is The Host on this poll), and Decision to Leave, by Park Chan Wook (Oldboy) -- shades of Vertigo, which I know you loved.

Tyler Foster

We have seen Parasite! Incredible film! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

In a Year of 13 Moons (German: In einem Jahr mit 13 Monden) is a 1978 West German drama film directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

Boris-N

We’d both seen it already so it was only a re-watch that we did not upload to YT! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Open Hearts (Danish: Elsker dig for evigt) is a 2002 Danish drama film directed by Susanne Bier, starring Mads Mikkelsen.

Boris-N

Betty Blue (1986)

Boris-N

I'll echo all the recommendations for 'RRR' past and present. It must be seen to be believed. 'Godzilla Minus One' (2023) The fact that you guys haven't already reacted to this is mind-boggling tbh. 'The Handmaiden' (2016) You've seen another Park Chan-wook film, 'Oldboy.' 'Lady Snowblood' (1973) QT borrowed a lot of 'Kill Bill's style from this one. 'Cinema Paradiso' (1988) Just a beautiful film. 'Wings of Desire' (1987) I finally watched this on xmas night, 2023, after decades of hearing and wondering about it. It felt like a real gift! 'The Wages of Fear' (1953) Kind of like 'Fury Road,' in that it's a very specific type of treacherous journey film, but it's more clenched-teeth than visual spectacle.

Paul Cox

Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In

Tom Chan

Oh word? I thought they reupped to YT within the last few months, but maybe it got blocked again.

Paul Cox

RRR

Tania Valdez

"City of the Lost Children" (1995 - French)

Mr. Writhms

Alternately, you can sort by popularity rather than high rating: https://letterboxd.com/films/popular/genre/western/ And actually, this can be done with many genres. Google is garbage and has been for a long time.

Paul Cox

its playing at the New Bev in LA for the next 3 nights - and all shows are sold out!

Birdie Num Num

The Lives of Others (2006) and I'll second someone else's suggestion of The Red Violin (1998)

Jax

I guess another Kurosawa film will never be reacted to. The people have spoken...

Birdie Num Num

Also, for a great French film.. 'Taxi' (1998)

jim Howe

The Night Comes For Us is like the spiritual sequel to The Raid 2. Haha. But at the same time, I've been needing a reason to finally watch "City of God", so I hope one of those win.

EdmanXERO

Off topic (but sort of not, since it's poll related): Hope we get another Westerns poll soon. And when you're pulling together the choices, use this letterboxd list instead of whatever google spits out: https://letterboxd.com/films/genre/western/by/rating/

Paul Cox

suggestion for future poll: The Red Violin (1998)

Nikki Sonrisa

How's about something Irish for Paddy's Day coming up? 'The Gaurd' 'The Commitments' 'The Banshees of Inisherin'. 'Calvary' 'The Wind That Shakes The Barley'. Anyone of them would be amazing

jim Howe

Yes. I will be paying a click farm to push it over the top. It's actually playing on the big screen in my city next week!

Marcus Cato

Recency bias.

Marcus Cato

Run Lola Run please and thank you!

Philip Alan

Brotherhood of the Wolf! Honestly just pulled out the DVD and watched it again. When released, it became one of the highest grossing films worldwide. It has it all: action, horror, romance. Great cinematography, solid story. Off poll choice: Diabolique (1955), a masterclass of suspense. Sam would love the murder plot and story! One of my foreign favs

ron clint

I think I just voted for all of these

Smooticus

Ah, it's Patreon-only. I was looking on YT.

FirstTimeWatching.com

Javier Bardem starring in The Sea Inside (2004),

Will Zamora

I think City o God is the best movie on here; but, Brotherhood of the Wolf is one of the most interesting and fun movies I've ever seen, so...Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Steve Mercier

I was literally telling my partner about Brotherhood of the Wolf yesterday! That movie is surprisingly good, I've only ever watched it twice, but after each time I think "Oh yeah, this movie is actually pretty solid!"

Vincent Hollow

RRR

Vlasios Vougiouklis

Recommend for future foreign films: Hero (2002) 13 Assassins (2010) Life is Beautiful (1997) Cheers!

Brandon Meng

Yes, Amores Perros is great

Will Zamora

Some suggestions: Belle de Jour (1967), The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972) both by Luis Buñuel, who also made a short silent film in 1929 with surealist painter Salvador Dali called Un Chien Andalou. Also, Diva (1981)

Samolina Pilchard

There's already a reaction to that one (it's one of Daniel's personal faves).

Paul Cox

Me, seeing only two films on this list made before 1998: 😭

Paul Cox

I love Tampopo so much but that definitely feels like one we'll have to wait for the wheel to potentially get on the channel. Still, I would love to see you two watch Run Lola Run. Did you already see Parasite off the channel? If not I suggest adding that and Memories of Murder to your next foreign film poll, what with Bong Joon Ho's next movie coming out in theaters in March.

Tyler Foster

Well, part of your remake already exists: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Man_Standing_(1996_film)
