Interview with the Vampire (1994) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

you should check out the AMC series for IWTV. it's so good, but also quite gory.

Claudia

Thank you for the feedback, Michelle and to David for the suggestion! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

So glad y’all enjoyed this one! I was a weird goth kid in high school and loved this movie and the soundtrack.

Grand Moff Slackin'

Thank you David

Michelle Cole

Swoon 90's Brad Pitt

Michelle Hoffman

Please react to 'Queen of the damned' the movie sequel to this film. It's fun.

Aaron Barlow

I really liked Queen of the damned, very underrated as it isn't exactly like the books and the actor is different, but it's a fun film. RIP Aaliyah.

Aaron Barlow

The company of wolves was weirdly cool. An interesting take on werewolves.

Aaron Barlow

You might try looking into Kanopy. They have an on demand streaming system that’s free through affiliated libraries. All you need is a library card. Or if you have a DVD or Blu-ray player, discs are free from libraries. But if you go the disc route, I strongly suggest Blu-ray discs. Library copies of DVDs are usually badly scratched, and tend to freeze-up during playback because of it. But Blu-rays are produced with a scratch resistant coating.

I wish that the movies you guys choose would be movies that are available for free on streaming services. It costs more than $4 to rent this movie & we’re already paying to be Patreon members. I love your reactions & I’m bummed when the movie isn’t readily available at no additional cost.

Michelle Cole

Yes, Legends of the Fall!!! Great flick

Michelle Cole

I know normally you guys won't do a series if they can't all be first-time reactions but there are 7 films with an eighth coming out, so I think if there's one where both of you have seen it, it's still definitely worth doing the rest of the series...especially with Daniel's memory.

Tyler Foster

Yep. But it's more adult oriented, too (PG-13 rated).

Lee N.

Antonio Banderas feels like he was meant to play a vampire after this haha -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ooh I completely agree about this film! There's so much story! That's so interesting! And thank you for clarifying that nobody actually died haha thanks for the recommendations! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL the whiny is killing me! I feel like I need more Lestat lore! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I think I've seen one mission impossible film but I'd have to check! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Kirsten Dunst was incredible in this! Had no idea she would be so young when we saw her name in the intro credits! I'm glad she ended up happy with Cruise's role! I can't imagine how nerve-wracking it is to watch your work become a film! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Oh woah! Like Roger Rabbit?! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Oh interesting! Love to hear more about the comparison to the novel! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thanks for all the vampire recommendations! I think we have a lot more vampire stuff to explore! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL working on it! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Although I personally don't care for Tom Cruise in this film, I still enjoyed it very much!!! To me this is Brad Pitt's movie! Also Antonio Banderas looked SOOOOO F'ing Cool as a vampire-- such a great-looking film!

Chris Bruneau

That is true! I should have said they didn't continue making the rest of the books into GOOD films. ;)

Domino

Yes for "The Firm". A great adaptation of the John Grisham novel. I'm not a big Cruise fan -- I always see Tom Cruise and not the character he's playing. But his character in The Firm seems so right for him I can overcome that. Of course, except when he is running! That's not a knock. Best running actor in the business.

David Martin

I'm Sure they would love it ;)

Florian Meier

The Firm has an incredible cast and a mystery/thriller storyline they will love. I hope it's the next choice in this little Cruise season we're accidentally in!

Future Boy

"The Firm" (1993) is a great Tom Cruise Film with Gene Hackman and "Cocktail" from 1985

Florian Meier

Jason that's a great Film !!! Mel Gibson and Kurt Russell were such Big Stars at this Time

Florian Meier

Actually they did make "Queen of the dammed" in 2007. Totally new cast though.

Patrik Kristersson

Tequila Sunrise is a pretty cool movie that stars Kurt Russell Mel Gibson and Michelle Pfeiffer

Jason Dolan

I definitely recommend the Salem's Lot mini-series.

Samolina Pilchard

I think what's great about this film is that it's not just a gore/slasher fest- it shows the "humanity" of the vampire characters - their fears, their desires, their loves, and yes even their family bonds that grow over time, and not in a schlocky soap-opera manner. I mean think about it- there are no major human characters in this movie- all the humans are just background victims- fodder for the protagonists of the film, unlike say the traditional Dracula story where the human characters are front and center, and the vampire is the shadowy spectre that everyone fears. BTW, the "Théâtre des Vampires" is undoubtedly based on the real life Théâtre du Grand Guignol in Paris (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Guignol) - which put on little gory horror vignettes- mini plays - much like depicted in the film, but not necessarily vampire based (and nobody was really killed :) ). There was an interesting Netflix movie based on the theater, "The Most Assassinated Woman in the World" a (fictionalized) account of an actress who dies every night in thousands of productions at the Grand Guignol and a mystery that comes up surrounding that. The director of Interview with the Vampire, Neil Jordan, has made several interesting films, including The Company of Wolves, The Crying Game, The Brave One , and Greta (yeah that last one is kind of schlocky, but its a good thriller in the Fatal Attraction vein, and I like Isabelle Hubert who stars in it). Neil Jordan often has Stephen Rea in his movies - who plays Santiago in Interview with the Vampire.

Samolina Pilchard

One thing to remember is that this book/movie is from Louis' (whiny :P) point of view. There is a lot more to Lestat than they show you in this story. He's the greatest vampire ever, unfortunately they didn't continue making the rest of the books into film. Loved this reaction so much. <33333

Domino

I'm more interested in seeing more Cruise on the channel. Have you guys already seen the Mission: Impossible movies or something? I'm surprised they don't seem to come up much in the comments here. Great franchise that may be ending this year, so now would be a great time to get into it.

Tyler Foster

There are as many limitations of vampires as there are stories about vampires. Sunlight, crucifixes, native soil, the list goes on and on. One that breaks many of the "rules" is The Hunger, a fascinating book but, unfortunately, not a great movie.

David Martin

I think the acting high point is Kirsten Dunst. She was amazing for her age. But otherwise, all of them were very good, and I love the visual style. Novelist Anne Rice was hugely popular for her vampire work, and it’s surprising that more of her work hasn’t been adapted. She was strongly opposed to Tom Cruise due to his screen reputation at the time, but she was eventually won over.

David Wilkins

Enjoyed the reaction from y'all as always. Here's a Brad Pitt recommendation from the 90s: Cool World. It also stars Kim Basinger and Gabriel Byrne. It's live action mixed with cartoon animation.

Lee N.

A fantastic reaction to my favourite vampire film. A great way to start the new year! And I can't have a Christian Slater appearance pass without mentioning Pump up the Volume (1990), my favourite Slater film (his favourite too), and my favourite high school film. I'd love to see it on the channel sometime in 2025!

Future Boy

Legends of the Fall (1994) Brad Pitt Meet Joe Black (1998) Brad Pitt

Jonathan Patrick

Wow, nice and fast. I look forward to watching it tonight.

David Wilkins

This is one of the great vampire movies because it details how much it would suck to be immortal. I first saw this around 12-13 and I have to laugh at how the gay themes went right over my head. Lestat saying "so you've come home to me" at the end. It's all about a former lover's rejection and jealousy. Then you have Armand offering himself as a lover and companion. It's so obvious as an adult, even though it is toned way down compared to the original novels. Apparently Anne Rice's original plan was to adapt her novel into a screenplay where Louis was changed from a male to female character. At the time, she feared that Hollywood was too homophobic for the movie to ever get made any other way. Brad Pitt wasn't crazy about the movie during production, as it was all night shooting and having to live by a nocturnal schedule like an actual vampire made him depressed. Looking back, he wasn't very happy with the role compared to how Louis is portrayed in the novel. He saw the movie version of Louis as too passive of a protagonist, mostly standing by and watching the more interesting vampires as the story unfolds around him.

Brandon

I've always loved the mythos behind vampires...the romanticism of blood and sex and death. But in my not so humble opinion, good vampire stories are hard to come by--good vampire movies are even harder to come by. This is one of the good ones. The cast is phenomenal, and though I'm not much of an Anne Rice fan, this one hits all the marks. I might also recommend the original Fright Night (adds some silliness, but in a good way), the movie adaptation of 30 Days of Night is pretty good, Shadow of the Vampire, Near Dark, Let the Right One In, Martin (which may or may not be a vampire movie), What We Do in the Shadows is just funny as hell, Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person was bizarre and hilarious, and the new Nosferatu was downright spectacular. I also hold a special place for The Lost Boys, Abigail (which was kind of stupid, but fun), and of course From Dusk Til Dawn which is a schlock grindhouse masterpiece, but think of these more as super campy action/horror hybrids. Oh, and Happy New Year...

Steve Mercier

The best vampire film! 30 Days of Night is another good one

Odd Thomas

Well, it's no The Sting, but I'll take it

Tyler Foster

'Fright Night' (1985) for another great vampire movie. 'Salem's Lot' from 1979, a two-part miniseries based on a Stephen King novel is also a classic! And if you want a more comedic one, 'Vampire in Brooklyn' with Eddie Murphy is a guilty pleasure of mine, directed by Wes Craven (Scream, Nightmare on Elm Street).

Shehab Dawoud

Happy new year! Behold, the beginning of the clinically depressed vampire movement. 😁. Which is not to say I didn’t enjoy Anne Rice’s work, at least some of it—was a very unique take back in the day.

Warren H
