Comments

Can we please get a poll on "The Wire " ? Thanks

Niko

Death Wish (1974)

Connor Brennan

I 2nd The Day of the Jackal

christopher brown

North Dallas Forty (1979) for the next Sports/70s/Mac Davis poll. Nick Nolte is in it too.

YoureMrLebowski

Would be nice if we got all three of the movies topping 100 votes...

Tyler Foster

Midnight Express (1978)

Boris-N

I can't not vote for All The Presidents Men here. Lots of fine choices on the list but it just stands out.

Jay Davis

Villain (1971) Juggernaut (1974) Soylent Green (1973)

christopher brown

Would love to see that 3 hour version of A New Leaf someday. But probably not gonna happen.

Birdie Num Num

Super excited to see The Heartbreak Kid being considered (though not by many)

Dan McComb

The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976)

Boris-N

The Conversation!!

Boris-N

Another film is William Friedkin's Sorcerer.

John Fitzpatrick

Well the thing is, most on here aren't big cinephiles(look at the votes Long Goodbye and McCabe have gotten in the past). No Altman will ever win a poll unless it's an Altman poll. Maybe The Player could win a films about Hollywood or filmmaking poll. But I can't see TBR and Sam just picking an Altman to react to cause they are interested in seeing more(how long has it been since Seven Samurai? Yeah there will never be another Kurosawa on this channel either)

Birdie Num Num

they've reacted to taxi driver.

Birdie Num Num

they've already reacted to it. sam screams pretty loudly at one point near the end:)

Birdie Num Num

I was looking for Jaws! Maybe you guys have seen it, or it's not the best reaction movie, though

Zachary Cormier

Can't remember if you saw Taxi Driver or not, but those early (1970s) Martin Scorsese movies are all great - Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, and even New York, New York.

Neal Romanek

Yes!

Neal Romanek

The Man Who Would Be King is one of THE great adventure movies.

Neal Romanek

I would say that since 3 Women came off the wheel, it won't affect whether or not more Altman gets a shot -- I would think M*A*S*H and McCabe & Mrs. Miller and Gosford Park, and these kinds of "headliner" movies would still easily be on the list of possibilities.

Tyler Foster

I was going to say yesterday that I thought it was funny you commented right after me.

Tyler Foster

There's a decent copy of The Heartbreak Kid on YouTube, although as you can tell from my username/profile pic, A New Leaf is a film very close to my heart...

Henry Graham

The major omission from this list that needs to be included on any future 70s polls is Robert Altman's Nashville. Sometimes I think it might be THE great American film! Happy New Year, guys.

Henry Graham

Warriors!! "Warriors! Come out and plaaayaaa!!"

Matthew Maxon

Recently watcher Badlands and you'll love it the two main actors hit it out the park

ArchStanton

Great Movies, I love Sleuth

christopher brown

Watership Down should be on this list

Odd Thomas

Breaking Away. What a great little movie

Smooticus

I've got to post 1975's -"The Wind and the Lion"/"The Man Who Would Be King" -action movies Sean Connery . 1977's-"Slapshot" hockey comedy Paul Newman did with the same director of the "The Sting" and "Butch Cassidy".

Keith Brown

Yeah !! 70's Poll !!! Great Guys !!! I recommend for 70's "Play Misty For Me" 1971 with Clint Eastwood, "The Gauntlet" from 1977 also Clint Eastwood, "Kellys Heroes" from 1970 also Clint ;), "Marathon Man" from 1976 with dustin Hoffman

Florian Meier

Anything from 1973 is awesome. (The year I was born.)

Scott Greene

It's kinda up in the air, probably. I don't think 3 Women even has 10K views yet.

Paul Cox

At least the Denzel Manchurian is decent. The Denzel Pelham may be my least-favorite remake of all time.

Tyler Foster

By "this year" I assume you mean 2025. I'd have to guess they watch more than one in the entirety of 2025.

Tyler Foster

well, at least the voters got this poll correct.

penoyer79

On the bad Denzel remakes tip, also please watch the original Manchurian Candidate (1962) before even considering that remake.

Paul Cox

ATPM had Robert Redford in it and was used by MCU fans as a Good Will indicator that Captain America The Winter Soldier was gonna be a good political thriller.

David W.

well the voters got this poll right. make sure to add Network and Deliverance to your next 70s pull

penoyer79

@jenm mentioned Deliverance (1972), and I'd second that. But also, I like to see Burt Reynolds' most iconic of all roles Smokey and the Bandit (1977) turn up on a future poll. The Longest Yard (1974) would be another good one of his. I also saw a couple people suggest The Warriors (1979). I really do believe you two would get a kick out of that one! A couple of Clint Eastwood deep cuts—both from 1971—I'd recommend: Play Misty for Me and The Beguiled (later remade by Sofia Coppola). A couple Paul Newman goodies: Slap Shot (1977) and The Verdict (which is from 1982, but since I'm here I thought I'd suggest it anyway. I know Sam digs legal dramas.) A couple Robert Redford goodies: Three Days of the Condor (1975) and The Candidate (1972). And if we only get one return to Robert Altman in the director's chair this year (I doubt The Long Goodbye will ever win a poll), I'd suggest Nashville (1975).

Paul Cox

All great movies!

Michael Buhl

There are a lot of great movies on this poll. Network would make a nice addition to the poll. It won 4 Oscars in 1977. (It came out in 1976.)

Michael Buhl

Great poll, all worthy winners, esp after Air Force One won a best of the 90s poll and Fast Times won a best of the 80s poll. Hopefully the strong showing of Pelham will ensure it gets reacted to before that horrible remake(which has Denzel and I know you've had Denzel polls). In general I hate it when remakes are reacted to before originals.

Birdie Num Num

Yes definitely watch "All The President's Men" you don't get that many movies about journalism tackling real life issues that can be woven into very well crafted thrillers. It also goes back to a time when journalism was really about getting the truth out and wasn't so one sided as it has become over the decades.

Robert Durant

Other 70s recommendations: The Last Detail (1973), Paper Moon (1973), Marathon Man (1976)

Samolina Pilchard

I'd like to see some love for younger Michael Caine. Sleuth (1972) or The Man Who Would be King (1975).

Zinphad

The taking of my subway train, considering I grew up in NYC.

Athos Count de la Fère

Three days of the Condor is a great one!!

Andew

All the Presidents Men is complete fiction. Its a good movie buts its not true if you research how it happened

James

You should check out The Conversation and Night Moves, both starring Gene Hackman. Night Moves is coming out on Criterion Blu-ray in March.

John Fitzpatrick

I doubt the Heartbreak Kid is in any danger of winning, but I rewatched their reaction to Midnight Run a few weeks ago and seeing how mad Daniel got at Charles Grodin in that one, uh...I can only imagine him punching his chair while watching The Heartbreak Kid.

Paul Cox

Suggestions for other great 70s movies: Breaking Away, Network, and Deliverance.

JenM

If you have not yet, you should react to 1979 movie the Warriors. It still holds up. Just to add. John Wick 4 had a nod to this movie that you will recognize, and Shaq often Quotes a line from it (Can you did it) because it is one of his favorite films. Please put it on a poll or executive decision.

Tray-T

I'll be pretty happy with a three-way tie between President's, Graffiti, and Pelham that gets all three of them on the channel over time. Especially if watching President's gets them closer to The Insider.

Tyler Foster

Anyone who would claim 1979 isn't part of the 1970s is just plain wrong. I could hypothetically sort of understand debating whether or not, for example, 1970 is actually part of the 1970s as opposed to the last year of the 1960s, especially since the first year of any new decade is going to be the one that looks the most like the previous decade, but it just makes no sense at all to say 1979 or any other -9 year. Really, that would be the year in which whatever was happening in that decade can fully be assessed. It's the *most* that decade!

Tyler Foster

I just figured I'd add that since there might be some who claim '79 isn't part of the 70s. lmao

EdmanXERO

Go All the President's Men! My all-time favorite non-detective detective story (and it's motherfucking true!).

Steve Mercier

The great William Goldman who wrote screenplay for The Princess Bride, Misery and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid also wrote All the President's Men

f hf

What's the technical part?

Kevin Charley

Day of The Jackal (1973) is one of the most overlooked thrillers ever.

Dryfesands

The Towering Inferno (1974) starring Paul Newman and Steve McQueen (and a lot more) And I 2nd The Warriors (1979) which IMO should be an automatic reaction

christopher brown

Next 70's list, you need to add Three Days of the Condor

Smooticus

Some heavy hitters in this one American Graffiti is terrific but might be a hard edit due to the soundtrack

Smooticus

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is one of the all-time great New York movies. I love that movie so much, and every time I watch it I have David Shire's banging intro music rattling around in my head for days. Coincidentally, Shire also did the score for All the President's Men - another masterpiece I can watch once a year and never tire of.

Henry Graham

While The Heartbreak Kid is a great movie, that one might be trouble to track down. If you are looking for another movie to poll instead, I would recommend A New Leaf (1971), which is also directed by (and even co-starring) Elaine May, and which is more widely available on paid streaming services.

Tyler Foster

I'm going with The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Another 70s recommendation: Assault on Precinct 13 (1973). My favourite John Carpenter film, which I think you would both love!

Future Boy

Not on the list, but I totally recommend "The Warriors" if you guys haven't already seen it. It was made in 1979, so it's still technically 70s XD.

EdmanXERO

Fuckin A - All the Presidents Men is fantastic. I’ve always thought Serpico was really good as well. ✌🏻

Mark Gettemeyer

Voted for Pelham because I haven’t seen the original just the new one. I need to watch the original first.

Rokkor X

Gonna throw in a suggestion for Superman: the Movie 1978, but I'll be excited for whatever wins!

Brent

Absolutely All of the Presidents Men. 🙏🙏💯💯. Excellent choice

Phillyman!!

Pretty much this whole list is a must-watch!
