Miracle on the 34th St (1947) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

This is just 2 years after the end of WW2 and that girl had lost her whole family and couldnt find anyone. then, to come to America and have Santa speak to her in Dutch is really touching. *Didnt see someone had said the exact same thing one comment down and days ago. LOL*

Another first time watching. Merry Christmas guys.

Alex

Was considering skipping this one until I saw that Maureen O'Hara was in it - lord have mercy what a smoke show - and the movie turned out good too.

If you guys are interested in watching more classic Christmas movies from the Golden Age of Hollywood, definitely check out The Shop Around the Corner (1940) with Jimmy Stewart, Holiday Affair (1947) with Janet Leigh and Robert Mitchum, and The Bishop's Wife (1947) with Cary Grant.

Just got done watching along with you. It was heartwarming to see Sam cry at the same scene I always do. When the little Dutch WW 2 orphan has that personal moment with "Sinterklass". Edmund Gwenn deserved the Oscar he got for best supporting actor that year. I was raised by my mother and grandparent's. Our house was right next to the diner my gramps owned. The Christmas of 1974 is still the best ever I ever had. I was 13 and begged for a mini-bike for month's. Christmas morning I ran downstairs looking all over the house for one. Nothing! Rats!! After a couple hour's of pouting, gramps asked me to help him get something from the diner next door. We walked in and right there was a brand new three wheeler from Sears. It was the Red Ryder BB gun of Christmas gift's to me. The the best present I have EVER gotten!! Gramps passed away a few year's later at 63 . I'm now 65, and miss them all very much. Especially this time of year. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

You are 1000% right. The three greatest Christmas movies, this one, IAWL, and White Christmas.

Mike LL

To me this is THE Christmas movie, even more so than It's A Wonderful Life, but IAWL is so much more than a Christmas movie. I think the writers of the 90's remake (which includes John Hughes) made a mistake in writing their movie in that they included a timely subplot not in the original which dates their version to the 1990's. I won't discuss details of that subplot here because both have not watched it. The 90's version will always be dated by that subplot even though the original is timeless. Of course I realize that the writer and director of this perfect version, George Seaton, was brought in to co-write the 90's version, but I still think the remake is not as well thought out as the original. And of course this is just my opinion, being a child of the 60's who grew up with this version. The ones who grew up later and watched the remake first would naturally be protective of their version. I would like to hear some of their thoughts, lol. I tear up every year watching this movie (the little Dutch girl scene always gets me), and am a sucker for watching reactions to this gem. When I saw that TBR Schmidt had released this reaction today (I actually came to this Patreon to see if they had a reaction to this movie yet) I couldn't click on rejoin fast enough! Thanks for doing this reaction!!!

Noelle is pretty good and has an homage to Miracle on 34th St.

This is one of my 3 favorite classic Christmas movies. I love this movie. The Dutch girl was a World War 2 orphan. The movie was made 2 years after the end of the war. U have also watched It's a Wonderful Life. You need to watch White Christmas to finish the 3 classics.

thomas king

Looking forward to this. This movie is my Christmas tradition Great Reaction

christopher brown

As a followup I love how ambiguous this movie is. For example based on how the movie is presented I don't believe he really is Santa, but I understand if someone else does.

Andrew Roach

Great reaction, I love this movie. I found a translation of the Dutch girl's convo with Santa for you. It's my favorite scene too. It's so touching that the girl, most likely orphaned in WWII, is so happy to have a new family. I tear up every time. Kris Kringle to the little girl: Hallo! Ik ben blij dat je gekomen bent! (Hello! I’m glad you came!) Girl: O, u bent Sinterklaas! (Oh, you are Sinterklaas!) Kris Kringle: Jazeker! (Sure!) Girl: Ik wist dat u het zou begrijpen! (I knew you would understand!) Kris Kringle: Natuurlijk! Zeg maar wat je zou willen hebben. (Of course! Tell me what you’d like to have.) Girl: Niets. Ik heb van alles. Ik wil alléén maar bij deze lieve dame zijn. (Nothing. I have everything. I just want to be with this nice lady.)

Jen Barnes

I remember very little about the remake (only saw it once in the 90s), but I do remember that instead of the little girl in line at Macy's being Dutch, she was deaf and he used ASL with her.

Paul Cox

Actor Edmund Gwenn (Kris Kringle) won the best supporting Oscar for this role. Another movie he was in the 1954 classic Sci-Fi film "Them" is top notch ! Maureen O'Hara Susan's mother did many classic movies, one is "The Quiet Man" with John Wayne which is filmed in Ireland so it's perfect for showing around St. Patrick's Day. Natalie Wood(Susan) in 1956 plays John Wayne's niece in the western classic "The Searchers". Oh! and Maureen O'Hara played John Candy's mother in 1991's "Only the Lonely".

Keith Brown

He is definitely the perfect Santa! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I didn’t remember much of the remake but this one was incredible! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haven’t watched this one with you yet, but it’s a great classic. I very much prefer it to the remake. The man who plays Santa is perfect.

David Wilkins

I remember seeing the remake but only once and the only thing I remember about it was that the resolution was different and not as good as the original resolution imo.
