Great movie and great reaction. You guys pointed out things I had missed on my first watch. A very poignant reaction. The acting is amazing by all and I love how the story just seems to flow like a calm river. It never feels forced. When the dad calls Angus sweet heart, that broke me because that is the same term of endearment my mom used to call me. She now has dementia, so that moment rang true. I look forward to the rest of your Christmas movies on the channel. Cheers!

The Descendants is a masterpiece

Didn't expect to catch anything I missed during my first watch a year ago—the story is about as straightforward as they come—but I'll be damned if almost every interaction and dialogue exchange didn't mean much more the second time through. What a richly written and acted film. Glad you both enjoyed it too!

"You are, and always have been penis cancer in human form." - Movie quote of the decade. Second time seeing this and I'm glad you guys liked it so much. That handshake at the end was VERY hug-like.😭 You'll have to head down the Alexander Payne rabbit hole now. Election, Sideways, The Descendants and Nebraska are all great comedy dramas. Payne is great at knowing when to be a drama, a comedy or both at once. IMO his only dud is 'Downsizing', but his track record is pretty great. I could have SWORN this movie was shot on actual film to get that film texture and 1970's look that the director wanted. It turns out they shot it digitally like 99% of modern movies. The film look was all done in post. I don't think I've ever seen a digital film made to look like it was shot on film come out looking so damn well.

It was so nice to rewatch this lovely little movie. Thanks guys and Happy Holidays!

This movie was so much better than I thought it was going to be.

I saw this when it first came out and found it enjoyable but decided to re-watch it with you guys and I'm glad I did..it was even more enjoyable with company. But I am so upset abut how sensitive Sam is...crying at how the professor couldn't tell if his tree was straight. The tears were almost choking her...my poor girl.

I already mentioned The Last Detail (1973) as a movie that obviously served as a key basis for this one. One that they probably didn't look at but which is nonetheless very similar and absolutely fantastic is Wonder Boys (2000), directed by Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential). All-star cast: Michael Douglas, Tobey Maguire, Robert Downey Jr., Frances McDormand, and Katie Holmes, in another wintry, funny, kinda bittersweet story about a professor and a student.

Looking forward to this Great Reaction

I love this movie! Check out more of Alexander Payne’s catalogue — I don’t think you will be disappointed. Divine Joy Randolph won the Oscar but (unfortunately) Paul Giamati didn’t. Such a great film choice!

Yay!! A perfect first film on the new tablet :) Enjoy! -Sam

I bought a tablet (among other reasons) so I could start properly doing full length watchalongs (previously I'd just been quickly peeping the intros and outros and then waiting for the YT edit). This will be my first! Still may not be able to always do that, because who has the time, but this is one I'm excited to get the full experience!
