Detective Film Poll!

Help pick the Detective movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

Comments

lol at The Game winning a detective film poll. in a landslide no less. I wonder how many voting have seen all the other films in the poll.

Birdie Num Num

Really looking forward to The Game!

David Wilkins

My #1 pick is Witness (IMHO Harrison Ford's best film), but I love that you put so many pre-1980 films in the mix (even if they aren't getting tons of votes).

Dan McComb

Wow...all decent choices and tough to decide. Whatever wins, you guys will rock it

ron clint

For future consideration, To Live and Die in L.A. (1985), but it’s more a Secret Service story than detective, although they are tracking down counterfeit money. Great cast and a great story.

David Wilkins

I like "The Game" a ton. I think it's funny it's in a detective poll.

RabidMango

Hell or High Water (2016) Bullitt (1968) The Hidden (1987)

christopher brown

I love Michael Douglas, and they still have a lot of his best films to watch! The Game is my favourite. But I also would love to see reactions to The War of the Roses, Fatal Attraction, Wall Street, Basic Instinct, and many more!

Future Boy

Perhaps The Name of the Rose (1986) with Sean Connery?

Michael SCH

Yeah, I consider myself very Altman-positive and even I'm kinda lukewarm on McCabe.

Paul Cox

My Favorite Poll, so many Great Films ...But Guys "The Game" is sooo good... Michael Douglas is my favorite Actor

Florian Meier

The only reason I didn't vote for Blue Velvet is that I don't think of it as a straight detective movie. Nevertheless, it's a superb movie, and you should definitely watch it (and make a reaction video for it).

Michael Buhl

Dead Again is a fantastic who dunnit. Emma Thompson, Kenneth Branagh, Robin Williams... one of my all-time favorite films.

Tinker

Angel Heart! Fantastic

Daniel N

After Young Guns destroyed some of the greatest westerns of all time in a poll, I don't share your optimism:) Silverado would handily beat McCabe in a poll, I'm sure.

Birdie Num Num

Please do check out “In the Name of the Father” with Daniel Day-Lewis (1993)

Daniel N

Oddly enough, David Fincher isn’t very proud of it I’ve heard.

Daniel N

The Game is a cool flick tho I'd categorize it as Mystery/Suspense

Ken Veader

I could see (and hope) McCabe & Mrs. Miller winning a Western poll

Ken Veader

The Game is amazing. Still holds up.

Han

The Game is a David Fincher masterpiece! I hope it wins.

Matt C

My favorite modern actor. 😞 Announced his retirement after the current batch of movies in the pipeline.

Athos Count de la Fère

Hah! 😂

Athos Count de la Fère

"Witness" is my favorite Harrison Ford movie.

Athos Count de la Fère

Let's stay on the Harrison Ford train. "Witness"

Athos Count de la Fère

The I almost picked all of them. BLUE VELVET will make the best reaction methinks.

Antmovies

No love for The Long Goodbye? Guess 3 Women may remain the only Altman film reacted to, its hard to see any of his films winning a poll.

Birdie Num Num

It's shame, but most here probably haven't seen it.

Birdie Num Num

Go Classics!, The Thin Man, Orient Express and The Big Sleep for starters!!

Keith Brown

Another detective movie is Night Moves. Sadly overlooked.

John Fitzpatrick

I fucking love this Film!!! Really hope it wins

Florian Meier

The Game, all the way. There are few here that I would cut, then add Angel Heart (with Mickey Rourke).

Michael Figueroa

In the heat of he night and The Game!!

James

Both Letterboxd and IMDb have really good genre collections (though neither has one specifically for detective films—some users have made their own lists), but going forward either one of those options would be far more likely to produce better polls and better winners than just a basic Google search.

Paul Cox

So is there an alternative to always just using google to come up with polls? I've lost track of how many times you and Daniel laugh after doing a reaction and say "this wasn't a comedy etc." So clearly you also see the flaws in google. Isn't imdb a better place for determining genre etc?

Birdie Num Num

Yeah, if/when The Game wins this poll in a few weeks, they shouldn't even mention the genre of the poll was "Detective" films when filming the reaction. Just say "it won our poll" to save themselves the grief of grouchy YT commenters.

Paul Cox

I really wish they would say that they compile these polls based on google in their intros. So many comments on youtube saying that "your patreons are idiots for telling you this is a comedy etc." It's not our fault!

Birdie Num Num

It is an underrated classic. Borderline masterpiece.

Daniel N

If The Game wins I suggest doing the second place off of this as well somewhere, just so we actually get a detective movie...although Witness would be a funny second place because while it IS about a detective, it's probably also not what you'd expect from "detective movie," even though it's great.

Tyler Foster

Google's been broken for years, so that tracks lol.

Paul Cox

Win or lose, please do The Game as soon as possible. It's been in my top 5 films I most want to see on this channel for YEARS!

Future Boy

Gotta take that up with Google, then! Google Search: "Top Detective Films" -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Great list here. Very difficult to choose. Here's my recommendation for the future: Death on the Nile, another very good Agatha Christie adaptation featuring Hercule Poirot.

Lee N.

Yet another example of a poll that will result in a good movie but in which Google has led you astray - The Game is not a detective movie. It has a plot with a mystery in it, which is probably why it came up. Identity is also not a detective movie. That said, there's literally only one movie on this poll I don't like and it's only because I haven't seen it.

Tyler Foster

It's too bad The Thin Man has no chance. The dialog is terrific. "I have to keep her from spending all the money I married her for."

Smooticus

Thank you for including some old noirs in this poll(even though they probably have no chance of winning). But almost all of these titles are must see's. Pretty diverse too, got every decade represented.

Birdie Num Num

Fallen is a great movie. Denzel is awesome in it.

Chadwick Von

I imagine The Game will win, and it's a good solid movie, but a lot of reactors have already done it and I've never seen anyone do Blue Velvet!

Analytical Guy

I had to expand my bones from 3 to 6. All of these are worth watching!

Smooticus

Sorry, but who's the "detective" in The Game? It will probably win because people want to see the reaction, but I'm baffled by its inclusion in this category.

Paul Cox

Obviously The Game

Phillyman!!

The Game! Duh!
