2024-12-25 05:07:08 +0000 UTCIf SOLARIUS is ever watched, I think it’s officially for free on Youtube on the MosFilm channel?

2024-12-23 15:24:22 +0000 UTCThat should DEFINITELY be on the list!

2024-12-05 08:45:39 +0000 UTCWith one of the greatest space ship designs of all time.

2024-12-05 08:44:40 +0000 UTCHey, I was at that screening! The college was USC and I was young film student. We all sat there waiting and waiting while behind the scenes there were angry phone calls back and forth between the studio, who weren't going to allow him to show it.
Neal Romanek
2024-12-05 08:44:14 +0000 UTCI know. Amazing, right?
Neal Romanek
2024-12-05 08:42:53 +0000 UTCReally? I love Looper.
Neal Romanek
2024-12-05 08:42:17 +0000 UTCI stumbled onto it one night by accident. Really, really good!
Neal Romanek
2024-12-05 08:41:25 +0000 UTCBrazil was a landmark movie. I got to see a sneak preview screening when Terry Gilliam brought it to my film school.
Neal Romanek
2024-12-05 08:41:00 +0000 UTCEvery movie on that list deserves a watch. Some are classics some are just super fun, but there's not a mediocre one there. I would add the David Lynch Dune, which is trippy as hell, and then the classic 1970s dystopia movies: Rollerball, Soylent Green and Logan's Run - and George Lucas's TXH-1138, if you can get hold of the original cut.
Neal Romanek
2024-12-05 08:38:29 +0000 UTCI'm disappointed there won't be reactions then but you clearly have great taste!

2024-12-01 22:17:32 +0000 UTCNever really got into dark city or Brazil. Gattaca is my first choice

2024-12-01 20:38:26 +0000 UTCPulling hard for Dark City. Such a unique film, and the essence of sci-fi.

2024-11-30 16:53:04 +0000 UTCHi Sam, Daniel, I beg you - should Dark City win the poll or if you want to watch the film later, do NOT watch the theatrical cut. Look for the Dark City Director’s Cut instead. The film works best when things are revealed to you, and the theatrical cut ruins the surprises within seconds of the film’s start with a narration tacked on because the studios didn’t think audiences will understand what’s going on. The Director’s Cut also contains extended scenes that flesh out the characters.
Michael SCH
2024-11-30 04:50:18 +0000 UTCDark City but the director's cut please
Odd Thomas
2024-11-29 22:50:19 +0000 UTCI think they've said they saw Children of Men before the channel. They do have a letterboxd page.
Birdie Num Num
2024-11-29 21:04:18 +0000 UTCI'm newish to this channel so correct me if they've already done these reactions but it's criminal for Children of Men and District 9, and to a lesser extent About Time, to not be on this list. 10/10 movies imo.
Brandon Meng
2024-11-29 19:17:07 +0000 UTCSomething that's hard to convey to younger generations without sounding like "old man yells at cloud" is the concept of the 70s/80s B-movie cable staple—think USA Up All Night. I'd love to see a poll of that type that includes things like The Toxic Avenger, Repo Man, Night of the Comet, etc.
Paul Cox
2024-11-29 15:56:52 +0000 UTCBrazil is probably unlike anything you have watched and one of the greatest black comedy-dystopian sci fi movies ever. I suspect Dark City is gonna win. It's ok. You can add City of Lost Children and Delicatessen to your next sci fi list. Co-directed by the director of Amele. Both highly entertaining. Edit: Just remember, we're all in this together.
bosho11
2024-11-29 05:23:43 +0000 UTCSolaris and Stalker are absolutely brilliant films, but because they are so complicated, and because they are both in Russian, it seems like it would be difficult to make reaction videos for them. However, I highly recommend them.
Michael Buhl
2024-11-29 05:23:14 +0000 UTCA handful of great movies to chose from but I wanna shout out "Her." It's so much better than it has any right to be, and it gets more impactful every passing year.
RabidMango
2024-11-29 00:36:42 +0000 UTC100% Gattaca. Timeless and still very relevant. From the director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Han
2024-11-28 23:38:17 +0000 UTCI'd love to see a Primer reaction. It will make their brains ache, but it's only 77 minutes long, so the pain won't last too long!
Future Boy
2024-11-28 23:22:20 +0000 UTCI would love to see someone react to Repo Man! By comparison, not that I don't love Clue (made around that same time), but there's something strange about the fact that dozens of reactors have done Clue and none (that I have seen) have ever done Repo Man.
Analytical Guy
2024-11-28 23:02:43 +0000 UTCHot take: the one that wins is a awful movie unless it’s the one I voted for 🤣

2024-11-28 21:47:03 +0000 UTCHah! Lol
Athos Count de la Fère
2024-11-28 21:08:36 +0000 UTCForbidden Planet. Where sci-fi was no longer aimed at kids, and had a more mysterious intelligent tone.
Athos Count de la Fère
2024-11-28 21:08:01 +0000 UTCDARK CITY is very much like another more successful series of movies that came out right after it.

2024-11-28 19:42:45 +0000 UTCOne of the best of that era. Another great one if "War of the Worlds".
Michael Figueroa
2024-11-28 19:26:52 +0000 UTCI'll go with Her. Other recommendations: Under the Skin (2013, ultra trippy/creepy, Scarlett Johansson) Repo Man (1984, cult classic, Emilio Estevez) Triangle (2009, incredible mind-bender, blending mystery/horror/thriller/sci fi)
Future Boy
2024-11-28 19:20:49 +0000 UTCLooper is just the dumbest. I hope they don't end up wasting time watching that one.

2024-11-28 19:09:13 +0000 UTCGATTACA is one of the unsung all-time greats that should get more recognition. It's one of Ethan Hawke's personal favorites and he says people still recognize him for that above anything else, and that means a lot to him

2024-11-28 18:41:41 +0000 UTCI don't think "Her" is considered science fiction anymore.

2024-11-28 18:40:17 +0000 UTCWhoah, 2 Tarkovsky films on a poll. Pretty cool. I can't see that ever happening with any other reactors with 100 k subs.

2024-11-28 18:35:05 +0000 UTCHer and Sunshine are my personal picks for you two with a special vote for a classic like Forbidden Planet. But I think Predestination would provide the most WTF moments for you two 😂

2024-11-28 18:31:37 +0000 UTCDark City is more popular, but I'm really rooting for Brazil here. That said, there's plenty of good movies on this one. If you watch Brazil, I might suggest watching it on The Criterion Channel (or HBO Max, if they have it via Criterion) so you can see the complete director's cut. Brazil is famous for having a huge battle in post-production over the final cut of the film. Universal head Sid Sheinberg wanted to chop by 50 minutes and change the ending, which would have completely changed its entire ethos. Director Terry Gilliam fought back by going to a college where he was scheduled to speak, telling them he'd brought along a clip of the film, which turned out to be the entire longer cut of the movie. They screened it twice and many critics got to see it there, after which they declared it one of the best movies of the year. Meanwhile, the film opened overseas in its second cut, which is mostly the same as the director's cut (known as the International Version, which is what's available on most digital services like Amazon Prime and whatnot). International critics also raved, ultimately forcing Universal's hand. The director's cut is a refinement of the International Version, and anyone who owns Criterion's DVD or Blu-ray of the movie (which I expect will be most fans of the movie) will have this longer version. The most edited version (available on the Criterion set as a bonus feature and not available online) runs 1:33:37. The international cut runs 2:11:40. The Director's Cut runs 2:22:25.

2024-11-28 18:31:26 +0000 UTCVery good list of movies. For any future considerations in the genre of sci-fi: I would also recommend The War of the Worlds (1953). It was one of the first alien invasion movies I saw as a kid in the early 90s. If you haven't seen adaptation starring Tom Cruise, the story in the 1953 version is different in some areas.

2024-11-28 18:24:39 +0000 UTCLooper is FANTASTIC. And Her
Phillyman!!
2024-11-28 18:24:09 +0000 UTCAI: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (2001) is definitely a sci-fi film you guys should check out at some point. A real lost gem from Spielberg.
Vincent Hollow
2024-11-28 18:23:32 +0000 UTCeasy vote for Dark City. As to Donnie Darko, but… How many times have you seen it, and when was the last time you saw it?
Analytical Guy
2024-11-28 18:23:31 +0000 UTCGood to see Dark City jump to the early lead. A very under appreciated sci fi movie. Also tossed a ring into Brazil's hat. If this wins (or gets seen at least) Time Bandits and Adventures of Baron Munchausen have to be seen to finish Gilliam's trilogy
Smooticus
2024-11-28 18:22:19 +0000 UTCKeeping my fingers crossed for Dark City!
Vincent Hollow
2024-11-28 18:21:25 +0000 UTCI wouldn’t expect either to win, but Tarkovsky is excellent, can’t go wrong with either Stalker or Solaris. They are both long and deliberate, but absolutely worth seeing. Dark City is also great, one of the most underrated movies of the 1990s, but make sure you get the Director’s cut.
Lars G
2024-11-28 18:21:16 +0000 UTCI can't vote for Solaris (1972) yet because I haven't seen it (I've only seen the Clooney/Soderbergh remake), but one of my 2025 projects is finally watching all of Tarkovsky's filmography. So maybe I can confidently vote for it next time it comes around.
Paul Cox
2024-11-28 18:20:11 +0000 UTCHoping you both haven't seen The Day the Earth Stood Still(1951)
