Dan's story about Halle Berry is correct but the funniest part about it is that she won the Oscar that same year for doing softcore porn sex scenes with Billy Bob Thornton and showed WAY more in that than she showed in Swordfish where they paid her $250 per breast. 2024-11-26 01:28:12 +0000 UTCOne thing that mystifies me -- it's a popular, funny, star-studded movie -- is that there was, until just two months ago, no reactions to Get Shorty on YouTube. Even now, I only see the one that was uploaded recently. Also very much want to note, re: Get Shorty -- Get Shorty is based on a novel by Elmore Leonard. Elmore Leonard was also the author of the book Rum Punch, which became Jackie Brown. Along with Jackie Brown and Out of Sight (1998), by Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven, Erin Brockovich), these three '90s movies are probably the three crown jewels of Leonard adaptations and I hope all three ultimately end up on the channel.

I saw this at the drive-in as a double feature with Sylvester Stallone's "Driven" which nobody remembers because it didn't have a topless Halle Berry. I think Daniel's memory is accurate about Halle Berry making jokes about how much money she made to appear topless. I remember it was at the MTV movie awards, but it could have happened on both shows. She did a lot of interviews and was very open about it at the time. There was no attempt to hide that her topless scene was a main driving force behind the marketing of the film. They had to know the reviews would roast this thing to a crisp while they were shooting it so they knew how to get a return on investment. I had a fun nostalgic trip watching this for the first time since it came out. I just couldn't take the fashion and the hairstyles seriously. The blonde frosted tips, the hair that's perfectly gelled to look messy and clean at the same time, Travolta's soul patch if you can even call it that and lot more. As for the movie itself, it's not that I'm shocked somebody made this... I'm shocked somebody made this for so much money. I like a lot of schlocky movies and schlock that's this schlocky (blowjob hacker interview?!?!) doesn't usually get such a big budget.

2024-11-24 21:47:12 +0000 UTCI have always enjoyed this movie. I like the style and idea, but I never bought Hugh Jackman as a computer genius. Despite that, I still think it is a lot of fun. And Travolta coming off the popularity of Pulp Fiction, and Jackman the popularity of X-Men, I seem to recall this did fairly well at the box office.
