i got so busy so i'm just now able to finish this series with you binging the final 3 today - this is my favorite season of FARGO but i actually cannot remember at all how it ends because I have not seen it since it came out which was 6 or 7 years ago or something - i'm glad to see Dan and Sam loving this show and i'm looking forward to doing the next seasons with you guys as well

Jason Dolan

I assumed that was the case! I think it all takes time to sink in and a re-watch! I love that description, thank you! -Sam

Never apologize for long comments! I love reading them! And I LOVE this comment! Lots to think about with this finale, but the longer I sit on it the more I'm on the side of VM going to prison and Gloria getting to thrive in her new job! I'm so mad at Nikki lol she could have done something great but I guess she does end up getting her revenge in the end via Wrench haha We're excited for future season! I LOVE Jon Hamm so I can't wait! -Sam

Okay, I like this!! -Sam

As for Season 4 and 5: I do hope you watch both eventually. Season 5 is definitely the more liked one. 4 definitely has had a mixed reception. I would love an excuse to rewatch Season 4 though, to see if it grows on my personally. So for that reason I do hope you go for it. I think it'd be interesting either way.

You wouldn't be the first to feel dissatisfied with the ending of Season 3 upon the first watch. I've heard from a lot of fans that their opinion of the ending improved upon more reflection or a second viewing. I think knowing what the season is trying to say about the nature of story and truth helps in that way. I do love that the ending is ambiguous, as it plays directly into the themes of the season: namely how we perceive facts and construct our own truths. Or to what extent that happens. We have both players stating what will happen, and based on how you've interpreted the season, you will come to a conclusion one way or another. It's a neat ending.

I don't know about season 4, but you guys have to watch season 5! Season 5 is just as amazing as season 1 and 3.

Alex

That's one of my favorite things about season 4. There are less references to the original 'Fargo' and a they dialed it back on the references to The Big Lebowski.

This series was a first time watch for me so I'm still processing what I've seen. Will have to go back through again for certain. All I can say at this point is that I have an overall feeling of frustration. Not that I didn't enjoy the season; just the way everything unfolded. Still a great series and wonderful reactions throughout.

James Rogers

Pleease jump right into season 4! I think you both will really enjoy it!

Nate G

Remember he was Ray's twin, so it would be incredibly difficult for her to shoot. She was building herself up to do it. Hate this ending for her.

Throughout the season, Varga was always quick with a sly comeback whenever someone tried to get the upper hand on him. However, when Gloria tells him what she thinks will happen in five minutes, he seems genuinely shaken and it takes him several moments to begin his rebuttal. I think that Varga is realizing that his luck might actually have run out but he wants to at least try to shake Gloria's confidence while he still has a chance. In the end, I like to believe that Gloria is the one smiling when the door finally opens. You'll probably get a lot of conflicting opinions on Season 4 but I found it quite rewarding in the end. It does have quite a different feel than the other seasons and actually feels closer in tone to another Coen Brothers film than it does to the original Fargo (I won't spoil what that film is but you both enjoyed it a lot). There are some story connections to earlier Fargo though including one big one that hopefully no one spoils for you.

Season 4 is very good in my opinion. It is not as strong as the first three have been, but being as good as the other seasons of Fargo is a high bar to reach. I would recommend it, but make your own judgements. Interestingly it is the only season in which members of the Police department don't play a prominent role. Whatever you decide to do with S4, Season 5 is a must watch. It is a an amazing story with a great cast.

Sorry for the long comment...πŸ˜… The ending depends on your outlook, I think. Do you believe in more of what Varga had to say this season - his negative outlook on humanity where only money means anything? Or are you more down with Gloria's way of life where the bad guys go to jail and the good guys get to enjoy deep fried snickers bars at the fair on the weekend? What if Gloria doesn't get a win, but still gets to enjoy a deep friend snickers anyway? Gloria's biggest win was getting the hell away from the dumbass new Chief and getting a better job. I've seen this season a few times now, so I think the writers are trying to ask one question in that final scene. Can people carry on and live happy and meaningful lives despite all the examples of the justice system failing us and actually helping out the wrong people instead? I like to think the answer to that question is YES... but I'm in a good mood today. πŸ˜† The episode is called "Somebody to Love" so maybe having that is the only true way to win at life in a world that is so crooked. Does anyone think that Varga has somebody to love? Nikki was on borrowed time, sadly. She chose personal revenge when she may have been able to help Gloria get more evidence on Varga. Does Gloria actually help anyone in this season? I think so, but a dead Nikki is no help to anyone. I think you'll end up liking season 4 more if you didn't care for the ending of season 3. Season 4 takes some big swings and tells a bigger story with more characters and plot threads. It does take place in the past like Daniel mentioned and I LOVE the location and time period they went with. Without saying too much it goes back to focusing on organized crime while leaning more heavily into the fable/mythical side of the series. It has a more definitive ending than season 3, so I hope you react to it soon. Sadly there have been no more appearances of Mr. Wrench but season 4 does have kind of a big connection to season 2. Season 5 is a whole different beast. I think it's a masterpiece and might even top season 2 as my favorite. As soon as the last episode was over I started rewatching the season over again. Jon Hamm plays one of the most cold blooded villains in the series so far.

Choose your own adventure. Fargo lives in chaos but by the end the big story ends on a higher rather than a lower note. Based on this I choose to believe that VM Varga is currently serving time in a federal prison. He has money but he's not a legitimate corporate CEO, he mostly operates by flying under the radar. He's no longer under the radar, he's recognizable due to facial recognition tech, by any government agency that wants him. Wealthy criminals known at the federal level don't pay folks off to get special treatment, typically they are "above the law" because they are providing some agency useful information about other criminals that leads to arrests and convictions. Emmett, based on what the IRS learned, was clearly a businessman (not to call him a good person) who didn't initiate the transactions that led to his business collapsing. There's not a lot of evidence that he or Sy were more than Varga's puppets. Numbered offshore bank accounts are difficult to trace, so he got a light sentence because he was small fish.
