Dawn of the Dead (2004) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

If you dig your fast zombies, you should hit up RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. That's usually a July 4th weekend movie for me, but you can watch it any time of the year.

One of the great horror remakes! I'll join in and say you need to watch the first three George Romero originals that started it all and invented the zombie genre.

Neal Romanek

My dad (May he rest in peace) took me and my cousins to see this movie back when it was out in theaters when I was 13 years old and watching the full length reaction just brought so much nostalgia for me, thank you guys for making this reaction ❀️

Probably my favourite zombie movie. Now we need Resident Evil! [edit: this is the theatrical cut. I only have the extended cut so will have to watch the YT edit :(

I’ve always enjoyed this one. Sam, thinking this was a comedy is classic. Love the rewind. Dawn of the Dead is actually a remake of a 1979 film. Tom Savini, who you pointed out, did the make up for the original movie. Also, the guy that says β€œwhen there is no room in hell, the dead will walk the earth,” was the star of the original film. His name is Ken Foree. You guys should watch the original trilogy of Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead. They are classics. This was a great reaction to watch. Cheers.

Saw this in theaters with friends. Probably the only Snyder film I really enjoy. The zombie fad was really fun before everything had been turned into "X, but with zombies".

I first saw this as a cheap bootleg a day after my active duty Army unit rolled into Baghdad in April 2004. One of our soldiers managed to bring a huge plasma TV and a DVD player; and we all gathered and watched this at night. I'm heavy into zombie cinema since watching the original Night of the Living Dead 1968. That newborn zombie still creeps me out to this day.

most of the 9 mins is additional character moments. you get to know a little bit more about them. nothing major is missed though.

This is still one of Snyder's best. I caught this on the opening weekend when it first came out. I remember I pulled an all nighter for some reason and still thought it would be a good idea to see a movie with friends instead of just going to bed. I actually nodded off in my chair for a couple minutes and got startled awake by a loud moment early in the film. After that, I was pretty much awake and locked in for the rest. The preacher on TV talking about there being no more room left in hell is Ken Foree, one of the stars of the 1978 film. An army general appears on TV at one point and it's another actor from the original, Scott Reiniger. I hope you guys get around to the 78 version at some point. There's several versions out there, but the original theatrical version is probably the best place to start. Snyder's remake borrows the shopping mall setting, but other than that he made a very different movie. So it won't feel like you're just watching an older version of the same thing.

1:40 is theatrical. Unrated seems to be 9mins longer

Saw this one in the theater. I had seen the original in high school in the late 80s, and this one was better in my opinion, but both are a great watch. I loved that Sarah Polley was in this, because I fell in love with her after seeing the movie "GO" which is an excellent movie that I highly recommend. Great cast, great movie, great soundtrack.

Is this the theatrical or unrated cut?

It's a good thing Sam didn't see this while she was still pregnant. lmao That scene fucked me up when I first saw it.

You should know that seeing this before the original George Romero classic doesn't really spoil that film in any way. The remake really just takes the basic "zombies in a mall" premise of the first film and does its own thing. There are a number of Easter Eggs to the original though including three of its lead actors appearing as characters on the TV news reports. One of them was indeed Tom Savini, the "cock gun" guy in From Dusk Til Dawn, who not only had a major role in the original but also did its zombie makeup and gore effects (he did not do the makeup for the remake though).

Watching Sam with her hand over her face for half the movie and looking completely horrified for the other half was truly hilarious. Great reaction, great movie.
