Football Film Poll!

Help pick the Football movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen Friday Night Lights, The Blind Side, The Longest Yard, Brian's Song and Any Given Sunday, so this would only be Sam's first time watching!

Comments

The 70s was a time of top football movies.

Neal Romanek

Nah, it's a great romantic comedy and a quintessential piece of 1990s culture.

Neal Romanek

Thanks for the tip!

Thomas Yanez

Another football movie to watch is The Program (1993), starring a young Halle Berry and James Caan.

pete

I have to say, I agree.

Scott Kerr

If you are going to watch The Longest Yard, it needs to be the 70's original with Burt Reynolds.

Athos Count de la Fère

It had one of LL Cool J's first raps. It wasn't even featured on the soundtrack and yet they bookended the movie with it. https://youtu.be/zNz_ROlyoqA?si=h996ImIY4_dVirtA.

Philip Davetas

I was okay with it, but it doesn't fit in with the football poll. It's more of a romance movie.

Philip Davetas

Man, I love WILDCATS.

Philip Davetas

I guess you've both seen The Waterboy? :)

David W.

I love Tom Cruise but Jerry Maguire is one of the worst films ever

Odd Thomas

I think a Basketball poll would've been more relevant with the NBA starting soon. The Football poll could've been saved for when we get closer to the Super Bowl. Hope we can get it soon, maybe around All-Star weekend? Anyway, my vote is 'Any Given Sunday', for the sole purpose of you hearing one of the greatest motivational speeches ever.

Shehab Dawoud

Yes! And Best of Times!

Ray Johnson

Wildcats is a great one and so is Best of Times with Kurt Russell and Robin Williams!

Ray Johnson

Little Giants Towers! above all....

Hector M.

Would like to have seen “The Replacements” on the list, but there’s a lot of good ones here. Going with Varsity Blues.

FischerMax98

If you watch Jerry Maguire, I recommend "Vanilla Sky" (2001) as well. Also Tom Cruise and same director Cameron Crowe, as Jerry Maguire. They make a great team.

Jonathan Patrick

Do you think rugby is soccer? Insecurity doesn't factor into it, ma'am. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyOXY8BTWjg

Tostito Buddy

While Jerry Maguire is an amazing movie, I wouldn't consider it a football movie.

Adrian Swales

I hope more than Jerry Maguire gets a watch in this poll. I hate that movie.

Donna Castellano

I wish the original "The Longest Yard" was on here. I would've voted for that first and foremost!

TGrimace

If you wanted to put "The Longest Yard" on here, the 1974 original should have been first. It starred Burt Reynolds, whereas in the 2005 version Burt is only a bit player. For your next drama poll can I suggest the film "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri"? A multiple Oscar winner from 2017. Thank you.

Chris Baldwin

Not just not true, but aggressively UNtrue.

Paul Cox

Fantastic choice!!!

Rudy Hernandez

I nominate Wildcats with Goldie Hawn

metadata

Popcorn in Bed did it.

Tyler Foster

I don't know if I'd consider BLIND SIDE a football movie. I mean, I guess it's about a football player. I like this flick though even though it's caked in controversy for not being true to the facts.

Philip Davetas

I like the original version better.

John Fitzpatrick

You’ve never watched an American football game, apparently. Insecure?

Catherine LW

It's too bad you guys already saw Remember the Titans. Haha. Guess Jerry Maguire or Any Given Sunday will have to suffice. :P

EdmanXERO

Semi-Tough with Burt Reynolds and Kris Kristofferson

Samolina Pilchard

While Jerry Maguire is the least "football" of these films, it's an all-time classic for me.

Brandon Meng

I see the Tuohys claim Oher tried to extort 15 million from them before going public with his story. Regardless, I thought this film getting Oscar wins/noms was a low point in their history. The trailer looks like a fake trailer from Tropic Thunder or something.

Birdie Num Num

Tough to choose. I really wish more attention would be given to the 1974 original Longest Yard. The Sandler version is good, but the original is superior Another is North Dallas Forty. It's an interesting look at being a pro football player in the 1970's that still has some relevance today

Smooticus

The far superior version. Much grittier and Eddie Albert is an absolute bastard as the warden.

Smooticus

Heaven Can Wait has more football scenes than some of these choices. Also Lock Up.

Birdie Num Num

The real Rudy in real life has been reported on as a snake oil salesman selling the Hollywood image of himself on the talk circuit but is a phony in real life.

Keith Brown

Necessary Roughness better than any of the selections presented on this poll.

James Rogers

Rudy hands down. But I also thought of The Replacements seeing it wasn't on this list. Did you guys already do that? Someone did. 🤔

Antmovies

Rudy! Rudy! Rudy! As a side note, take a look at The Replacements, gene Hackman and Keanu reves.

Jeremy Charlie

So do I , I was mearly saying when I first read it being British I thought of what you would call soccer no big deal 🤷

Ian

With the cameos, I've a very special place in my heart for the remake

mikethemotormouth

most of the world call it football

hogweed

Ngl when I saw football I though you were talking what us British call football lol surprised therefore invincible isn't in the list but went for the blind side as it's excellent 👍

Ian

The Tuohys put him in basically the same kind of conservatorship Britney Spears was in, reshaping his story to make themselves look like saints, and then keeping most of the money. S H A D Y

Paul Cox

Also, for those who don't know, Rudy was recently released on 4K UHD with a brand-new director's cut that restores two scenes. I expect TBR would watch the theatrical cut, but fans may be interested in the longer version.

Tyler Foster

Agreeing with the comments that the original Longest Yard should probably be first, and The Blind Side can probably fall by the wayside given its subject has just recently started calling it a complete fiction and pushing back against his whole rags-to-riches story.

Tyler Foster

The original "The Longest Yard" (1974) with Burt Reynolds is the classic.

Mr. Writhms

American football VS Rugby makes me think of the Crocodile Dundee line "That's not a knife. That's a knife." It would be like if Australia had a version of basketball where the players wore mylar jumpsuits with fish bowl helmets. American football players look like Flash Gordon henchmen to me. Real men wear shirts and a pair of shorts when they smack each other to the ground over a ball. That's just basic science.

Tostito Buddy

Rudy. RUDY, DAMMIT!

Thomas Yanez

I pretty much selected all of them. LOL

Tristan Durant

North Dallas Forty!!

John Fitzpatrick

Tough to view The Blind Side with any credibility nowadays.

Paul Cox

You should watch the 1974 version of The Longest Yard with Burt Reynolds.

John Fitzpatrick

We are Marshall highly underrated. Overshadowed by Remember the Titans at the time.

James

Jerry Maguire and Rudy are the best choices 😎 Recommend.... "Necessary Roughness " (1991)

Jonathan Patrick

Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, RUDY...

Brandon Royce

Could watch Pacino's speech in Any Given Sunday every day.

Allen S.

No, “Waterboy”? Lol Nevertheless, I’m sure you can guess what movie I picked 😆

Rudy Hernandez

The Replacements.
