2024-09-11 03:38:25 +0000 UTCThe Fargo movie is almost entirely set near Brainerd MN, where Marge Gunderson is Police Chief. Brainerd is about 100 mi NNE of Minneapolis, home of Jerry Lundegard. The opening scene in which Jerry meets the kidnappers for the first time is set in Fargo ND. Fargo is right on the MN-ND border, on the west bank of the Red River. Season 1 of the TV series is primarily set in Bemidji MN, another 80 miles NNE of Brainerd. Colin Hanks' character Gus works in Duluth MN, on the shore of Lake Superior 140 miles ESE of Bemidji. The scene in which Malvo marches through a building shooting everyone inside, is in Fargo. Much of season 2 is set in Luverne MN, in the SW corner of the state. The last few episodes, including the shootout of course, are in Sioux Falls SD, 30 miles west of Luverne and near the triple junction of SD, MN, and Iowa. This season is closest to being about Fargo, as it is the headquarters of the Gerhart Crime Family. Part of the plot line of S2 is the killing of the remaining Gerharts and the take over of the Fargo mob but the Kansas City mob. It is the KC mob, operating out of Fargo, that Malvo kills in S1. In season 3 Fargo is entirely out of the picture as the villains are now an independently operating international mob taking over businesses through technological means, with no central base of operations. Ray Stussy lives in St Cloud MN about 60 miles NW of the Twin Cities. Emmit Stussy's business is also headquartered there. Eden Valley, where Gloria is the semi-ex Police Chief, is just a few miles south. Emmit lives in Eden Prarie MN, which is a suburb of the Twin Cities. So in some of the stories, and in the movie, Fargo is just an evocative name that calls forth images of limitless plains of naught but snow and freezing temperatures. When it becomes part of the plot line it is just as headquarters for organized crime in the upper midwest. Almost all of the stories are set in (mostly) small towns in Minnesota.

2024-09-11 02:32:38 +0000 UTCI. Love. Winnie. Best cop in all of Fargo... which is a place that totally does exist. π When she's interviewing Sy, he sure acts an awful lot like William H. Macy in the movie when he's being interviewed. Yuri has that whole speech about man's truth, god's truth and untruth that stood out to me more than anything in the episode. Gloria and Ray are both unwilling to go along with the version of the truth their bosses have settled on. The Sheriff wants to wrap up Gloria's investigation early and chock it all up to a series of coincidences. Ray's bosses are willing to lie in his favour so he can keep his job, and he refuses. Then you have Varga who is just next level and can manipulate Emmit easily. He finds the truth and then decides what to do with it.
