I thought this was a nice little detour. Why not pick your new name out of a toilet in a seedy motel in L.A.?

I believe the guy sitting next to Gloria on the flight to L.A. (the guy who was on his sixth flight of the week on Tuesday) is supposed to be the mythical "Wandering Jew". According to legend he taunted Jesus during the Crucifixion and was then cursed to walk the Earth until Jesus returns.
It's kind of cool how the Cohen brothers interweave myth and ancient stories into their works.

I remember a review of this episode that said Fargo points out that there's no such thing as an unimportant story. That always stuck with me and 'Fargo Away From Fargo' is one of my favourite episodes.
I think some Fargo fans were expecting a more straight-forward crime drama with a lot of offbeat humour like we got in the first two seasons. It's a totally valid POV, but I like it when the show takes big swings and tries to give you an hour of TV that you didn't expect but end up loving anyway.

Vivian is played at her two different ages by real life mother and daughter, Frances Fisher and Francesca Eastwood (and, yes, Francesca's father is exactly who you think it is).
