Whodunnit Film Poll!

Help pick the Whodunnit movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: Sam has seen Who Framed Roger Rabbit, so this would only be my first time watching!

Comments

Brick is so good.

Jeremy Charlie

I agree hugely. I was shocked to hear about a U.S. remake so quickly after the original did very well at the box office. And it had a lot of crossover draw, which is unusual for a foreign language film.

David Wilkins

consider watching the 2009 Swedish-language version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. maybe it's just because I watched it first, but I thought it was better than the English-language version.

YoureMrLebowski

See how they run (2022)

christopher brown

Not to mention the intense SA scene.

Tyler Foster

I definitely thought, of all the films on this poll, that one would be much more competitive than it is.

Tyler Foster

My guess is that it will get watched anyway, it's pretty close.

Tyler Foster

The most common complaint is not exactly *negative* but just that the movies on the polls don't match the genre they're supposed to be about.

Tyler Foster

I'm not that disappointed, in the sense that Who Framed Roger Rabbit is still a masterpiece, but I also understand that it's on a lot of channels.

Tyler Foster

Agreed. I said it below, but I'm hoping the passion from the commenters will convince them to slip it in the schedule somewhere regardless of the polls, because it is coming in third, and it's also the movie's 50th anniversary.

Tyler Foster

Fincher's is better imo

Odd Thomas

I agree. One of the top spy films for sure. Might take a while for this to win though

wapaking

I wish The Conversation was winning. It's phenomenal!

Michael Buhl

The Conversation is slept on, one of the greats

G P

I second both of those. I've never seen a reaction to either of them. Frantic is so underrated.

Biddy

very true. it popping in my head and i knew if i didn't comment then i'd forget.

YoureMrLebowski

The next monthly drawing could be the biggest one yet. Feels like everyone's frothing with suggestions ๐Ÿ˜…

Look out, Arbogast!

Doesn't look like "Identity" is doing very well, but you got to be in it to win it, so there goes my vote. Yeah.

FischerMax98

I like it too, but much prefer the Swedish original from 2009. But itโ€™s disappointing that WFRR is running so far ahead.

David Wilkins

The Conversation ... Francis Ford Coppola's gem of a whodunit, lead by the iconic Gene Hackman.

ron clint

are the comments usually positive or negative?

Mark M

I've been hoping for this for the longest time now.

Jeffrey Miller

Would love to see this, but they've never done a documentary that I can remember.

Jeffrey Miller

I'm shocked The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is doing so well. I thought I was the only one who liked that movie.

Jeffrey Miller

I can already see the youtube comments when you say "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is the winner of our Whodunnit poll...

Birdie Num Num

As a lover of murder mysteries, Dragon Tattoo is a must for Sam

Odd Thomas

Anybody think The Thin Blue Line could be considered a whodunit?

James Rogers

Oh, it's much, much, better than The Guilty.

Tyler Foster

The Extended Editions were, I believe, created for Swedish television, and each book is broken up into two parts, so it plays like a 6-episode miniseries rather than three movies. Or maybe it's the other way around and this is technically the original format. In any case, I imagine there are clear chapter stops between the parts, possibly with credits.

Tyler Foster

That's a court martial film, not a whodunit.

John Fitzpatrick

It has been a while since I watched them, but I remember watching the original trilogy in one night. However, I cannot recall if it was theatrical or extended, but since I watched them on Netflix I will assume theatrical. Netflix did not often have extended or director cuts back then. I do not think it would matter either way though. I have yet to see a movie completely ruined by a director or extended cut. I have seen a couple that I did not like the extra content, but the movie was still good.

Vwlss Nvwls

The Caine Mutiny (1954)

YoureMrLebowski

Presumed Innocent (1990)

YoureMrLebowski

Dragon Tattoo finally makes it on one of these polls and it has to go up against Roger Rabbit lmao! Next time, next time

f hf

Yay...Brick...won't win....yay...

Steve Mercier

YES!

David Martin

i'm glad you enjoy. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

YoureMrLebowski

I just wanted to tell you , I'm a big fan of your reaction Mashup videos they are a lot of fun

Wyatt Nuxoll

TRIGGER WARNING: The girl with the dragon tattoo has a jump scare animal death moment. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

David W.

Agree - though if Sleuth is in the discussion, then Deathtrap (1982) ought to be there too!

Michael SCH

I recommend "No Way Out" with Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman and "Frantic" with Harrison Ford for this type of Poll

Florian Meier

Michael Clayton (2007)

YoureMrLebowski

Deathtrap (1982) Michael Caine and Christopher Reeves

YoureMrLebowski

Underrated :)

PIG

I've never heard of it and, now that you guys are recommending it so much, I really have to check it out. I'm assuming it's like The Guilty (2018), but I'll go in spoiler free.

PIG

No Way Out is a fantastic film with Gene Hackman and Kevin Costner!

William

As you know if glass onion is on the poll it gets my vote . One day it will win one day ๐Ÿคž

Ian

It's available for free on YT. In 1080 too

Andrew Corbyn

Many have done same films around same time. I get it all great regardless. Love when you both do movie reacts to more obscure films like Manhunter for example so my choice is Stir of Echos. Underrated imo

Spawncalibur

It's just a matter of time, I think. If they get hyped on exploring Hackman, not to mention the idea of putting a bow on John Cazale's whole body of work, we're likely to see a reaction eventually.

Paul Cox

Was hoping French Connection would boost it, but maybe it'll be these comments that convince them that it's one to just watch rather than poll, especially if Dan wants to do Enemy of the State.

Tyler Foster

Love Night Moves. https://x.com/tylergilfoster/status/1815631757670256732

Tyler Foster

I have not yet seen the originals, but I just rewatched the remake, and not only did I like it back in 2011, I think I liked it even more now. I think this will be when I finally jump into the originals. Only question is, theatrical or extended cut?

Tyler Foster

It would also arguably make Roger Rabbit funnier if they'd seen a few more noir classics, like Double Indemnity and The Big Sleep.

Tyler Foster

Only trouble will be finding a copy. A shame Bristol-Myers-Squibb won't let it go.

Tyler Foster

Next one has to include Sleuth (1972)!

Andrew Corbyn

While I liked the remake, I absolutely love the original trilogy.

TheTerryGene

Hmmm ... I think more than half of these titles aren't really "whodunnits"? I think "whodunnit" is a specific genre with specific identifiers; the most traditional on the list would be Orient Express, Glass Onion, and Murder by Death. Maybe I'm wrong. Other 'whodunnit' examples would be many of the Agatha Christie adaptations (Death on the Nile, The Mirror Cracked, Evil Under the Sun), Clue, and the Scream / I Know What You Did Last Summer franchises. But I really enjoy many of the other films on the list - The Conversation, Identity (Paranoia Thrillers); The Big Sleep, The Long Goodbye, Roger Rabbit (Film Noir), Brick (mystery), Dragon Tattoo (Thriller), and so on. Hard to vote for which ones but looks like Roger Rabbit is running away with the vote! I personally would vote for The Conversation (as a film masterpiece) but Orient Express as the best of the "whodunnits".

Michael SCH

It's like when Hitchcock wins the noir polls. People always lean into what they know, and a ringer like Roger Rabbit was always going to grab the most votes.

Paul Cox

Well, he did find the girl he was hired to find, and return her safely to who hired him. He's just such a mess, he can't see what's really going on.

VivendoBem

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is more of a comedy than a mystery.

TheTerryGene

Yes they did

Smooticus

They did see Maltese Falcon.

Birdie Num Num

Hi Daniel & Samantha, for future consideration (The Kennel Murder Case) 1933 Murder/Mystery film starring William Powell as Philo Vance. Also the (Thin Man) Comedy/Mystery series of 6 films of 1934-47. The latter stars William Powell & Myrna Loy as Nick & Nora Charles, along with their boisterous little dog called Asta. All enjoyable viewing, IMO. Also a great insight into that period of history.

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

Last of Sheila should be on the list. It inspired Glass Onion. Also Deathtrap, Sleuth, Witness for the Prosecution.

Birdie Num Num

I agree that the original is superior, but this might be strategic if they're motivated to move ahead with their David Fincher series.

Paul Cox

Why is everyone watching the remake of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" instead of the original? I loved the original, and I typically hate subtitles since I am a slow reader. I just cannot imagine the American version does it any justice.

Vwlss Nvwls

โ€œGirl with the Dragon Tattooโ€ with Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist felt like it worked better to me. I would say you should watch both versions at some point to compare.

Andy

I'm equal parts disappointed and unsurprised. It's a bit like Forrest Gump winning a war poll

mikethemotormouth

Agreed. I really can't think of another thriller like it.

Ed R

"Frantic" should make this list at some point in the future.

Ed R

Murder by Death is hilarious, but it helps if you've seen the old mysteries and noir movies and novels from the 30's, 40's snd 50's The characters are spoofs of Sam Spade, Charlie Chan, Ms Marple, the Thin Man, etc. Still good fun though

Smooticus

One of my favorites ever Identity!

mikethemotormouth

"Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" is a classic. I'm always down to watch again with you guys. Haha.

EdmanXERO

The Conversation and The Big Sleep

Athos Count de la Fรจre

Unfortunately, it was released the same day as Jaws. Also, Hackman's detective is not very good at his job.

John Fitzpatrick

Who framed roger rabbit, thats in the lead, really ???

Chris Bruneau

Iโ€™ve seen a lot of these, and they are quite good, but The Conversation is a masterpiece and essential viewing.

Robert Boyd

You're a special man! Night Moves is my favorite Hackman performance. An underrated, basically forgotten gem.

VivendoBem

Already voted for it.

John Fitzpatrick

"Only when it's Sunny!"

PIG

Yeah this up my alley. Too many good ones, agreed.

PIG

Argh. Too many good choices.

Athos Count de la Fรจre

Don't forget about Night Moves. Underrated film with Gene Hackman. Another one is Sleuth, with Michael Caine and Lawrence Olivier.

John Fitzpatrick

At long last, we can get The Conversation on the channel. Y'all know what to do!
