Martial Arts Film Poll!

Help pick the Martial Arts movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen IP Man & Warrior, so this would only be Sam's first time watching!

Comments

I'd vote for Project A, Wheels on Meals and Police Story before anything in this poll, but if i must pick from the above then Drunken Master it is

Paul-Mihail Draghioiu

Such a great film! One of Darren Aronofsky's best! Also, The Fountain is amazing...changed my life in 2006 lol...

Andrew Manford

The Wrestler, on future polls, please! :)

Eric J Watkins

The 4 Ip Man movies with Donnie Yen are great

Odd Thomas

Nothing against IP Man, which is great, but it's kind of a shame to see Jackie Chan's martial arts peak losing to it due to what I assume is recency bias.

Tyler Foster

Since you guys are watching the final season of Cobra Kai, you should watch Best Of The Best whether it wins the poll or not. CK is referencing it a lot with regards to the world tournament Sekai Takai

Ken Veader

Come on Bruce

Joe

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist!

John DiGiantomasso

Have you guys seen Ong Bak? It's one of my favorite kickboxing movies, from Thailand. They take some serious hits for not nearly enough money, but it's an amazing movie. Tony Jaa really could have been a massive star, but he had different priorities in life, and that's cool, too. Definitely a must see!

Dan

So many great choices you can't go wrong with whatever wins ๐Ÿ‘Œ mortal Kombat would be amusing for Sam omg moments ๐Ÿ˜€

Ian

These may all be worthy of a poll. But I can't vote in this one in good conscience when it doesn't include at least one Bruce Lee movie.๐Ÿ˜ž

Gerald Corona

The Drunken Master movies are so good. You really should watch them even if they do not win polls.

Vwlss Nvwls

I think that would be more of a personal choice. Haha.

Flora

Which cut of Fearless? There are three!

Tyler Foster

Oh yeah, I meant to say. The original is great. Still, they can be watched in whatever order; in my recollection they hardly connect.

Tyler Foster

I'd say that 'Fearless' is really the best showcase of different types of weaponry and martial arts philosophy out of this list. I feel that this will always be one of Jet Li's finest works. As much as many other martial artists have come and gone from the movie scene, I haven't really seen anyone comparable to Jet Li when it comes to Chinese martial arts. Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen have their own niche within the market but when it comes to skills off-screen, there's no comparison. Although I will say that if you want to just see the closest depictions of Chinese martial arts in movie form, Jet Li's first movie, Shaolin Temple (1982), had a cast filled with some of the top Chinese martial artists of the time with their weapons of choice. They didn't even have choreography for the movie, they were asked to merely display their skill with minimal instruction of what the scene would be.

Flora

I don't see it as obscure at all. It gets talked about a lot in martial arts circles. Primarily because of the controversy with the choices made by the makers of the film, which I won't get into for obvious spoiler reasons. But that's one of the best films of the 90s hands down. I saw it in the theater and absolutely loved that movie, and it tells Bruce Lee's life story in a beautiful way.

Alex

It's suggested that you guys watch the first Drunken Master (1978) before you go to The Legend of Drunken Master. Other than that, I'm down for either that or Way of the Dragon. It's about time for some more Bruce Lee.

EdmanXERO

Thank you. I forgot to list Ong-Bak.

Alex

Warrior is pretty different than the others, and my favorite on the list! The performances in that movie are excellent.

Trepanation21

My dream is that you guys just start watching a bunch of Jet Li and Jackie Chan movies. So many good ones

Ben Castonia

The original was great too

Ben Castonia

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993), is a hidden gem NOBODY talks about, yet everyone should see. I'd love to see it on a poll, although I suspect it may not get many votes due to its obscurity.

Brandon Royce

Future suggestions: Shadow (2018) Red Cliff (2008) 36th Chamber of the Shaolin ( 1978) King Boxer (1972) Heroes of the East (1978) Ong Bak (2003) The Protector (2005) Fist of Legend (1994) The Swordsman (2020) Hard Boiled (1992)

Shawn Goforth

Warrior is one of my favorite movies! So underrated!

David Crabtree

you guys should add Kiss of the Dragon and Unleashed to future martial arts polls.

Ed R

I didn't know that. I'll have to go look for it.

John Fitzpatrick

It's already on the channel, but there's so many others.. House of Flying Daggers, The Myth (though this one is tough coz it's not on any streaming networks that I know of), Every other Jet Li movie besides Fearless, other Bruce Lee movies, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. I'm hoping for Best of the Best coz I've never seen it, even though I have met Cynthia Rockrock at the 1995 World Wushu Championships.

Alex

Dragon, The Bruce Lee Story

Ray Johnson

The Last Dragon would be good to have on a poll

RoadZombie

The original title of The Legend of Drunken Master is Drunken Master II. However, you do not have to see the original, as they don't really connect as far as I can remember. That said, definitely try and watch it in the original language, and you may need to find it under its original title to do so as The Legend of Drunken Master is the title for the American dubbed release.

Tyler Foster

Already on the channel!

Tyler Foster

Don't forget about Enter the Dragon.
