Dude got a happy ending with a chorus of naked women surrounding him while he got it. :D He was tripping his brains out so he wouldn't remember that though.

The first viewing is pretty disturbing but the second time you see it more as a dark comedy

Have you seen the shorts Curve or Floor 9.5?

I'm swedish, and I remember that there was a couple of months after this film was released when each time someone heard where I was from commented in the style of: "Woah, Midsommar!". 😂
Great reaction as always - I would heavily recommend the 1973 film The Wicker Man, which bears a strong resemblance to Midsommar plotwise. It also has Christopher Lee (Dracula, Saruman etc.) in it.

They have a lot of cool costumes there. They also have a pair of Dorothy’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz. Definitely, worth checking out.😊

No way! That would be cool to see the intricacy of that costume in person. Thank you!

Good thing you guys didn't watch THE VVITCH. Don't worry. No one will ever think about suggesting it.

Yep, I was hoping anything but this movie would win the poll. On an interesting note, the Academy Museum on Fairfax has the flower costume on display, and apparently Florence Pugh is tiny. Loved your after movie summary.

I did put a question mark after the happy ending. It is an ironically happy ending at best. And its the only time in the entire film I recall seeing Dani really smile. Pretty effed up for sure.
I'd say Christian didn't deserve that death any more than any of them. But he doesn't just kinda suck. He really sucks.

It's interesting because the bad boyfriend really isn't to blame. He kinda sucks, but not at all in a way that's deserving of what happened to him.
I really wouldn't say that being brainwashed by a cult is a good ending though lol
Just because someone is happy doesn't mean they got a happy ending.

Disturbing and unsettling sums it up perfectly. While also watching someone fall into a cult. Pugh was great though!

Who is making the meme with Dan in the Bear Suit and Sam as the May Queen forcing Dan to choose between rewatching Hereditary and Midsommar?

This is one of the only reactions I simply couldn't watch with you guys... I felt sorry that you were going to be submitted to that, and I felt pretty confident that it would be an awful experience for you both... 😬😬😬 just one of those rare movies that I couldn't even finish, and just couldn't find a single good thing to say about it...

I will say this, Toni Collette, Florence Pugh and Joaquin Phoenix give three of the all time performances in these three movies of Hereditary, Midsommar and Beau is Afraid, as disturbing as all three of them are.

Beau is Afraid is all of those things, but a masterpiece nonetheless. What Ari is able to bring to the screen is mesmerizing in every way shape and form

So far the only other feature length movie Ari Aster has done is Beau is Afraid (2023) - I heard it was not a horror movie and a crazy, bloated, self indulgent mess but after Hereditary and Midsommar he's earned the benefit of the doubt from me. If it sucks, well... you can't hit a home run every time (unless you're The Beatles I guess). Now if you guys thought Hereditary and Misommar were fucked up - then I will be happy to recommend some of his short films. Both are on Youtube - The Strange Thing About the Johnsons (2011 - 29 min.) and The Turtle's Head (2014 - 11 min.) - hooooooleeeeeee shit. Neither of them are horror but... you'll just have to see! Maybe The Turtle's Head as a Patreon exclusive?!?!?!?

So interesting watching a functional, loving couple react to a film centered around a dysfunctional, toxic couple. Hereditary is child's play in comparison to this film. At the end of the day I don't lose sleep worrying about demonic possession. Everything in this film could and probably has happened. At least Dani gets a happy ending? Kudos to both of you for seeing it through to the bitter end.

Florence motherfucking Pugh! She might just be the best actor of her generation (at least so far). And this movie is spectacular. Don't know if I think it's scary--you know, classically scary? But it's super unsettling. And I think that's the true nature of horror--what unsettles us. I love how this movie revolves around Dani, always cut out or half-shoved out of the frame when around her boyfriend's clique, who want nothing to do with her (along with her boyfriend). And then slowly she starts to move towards the center of the frame as she finds acceptance among the Hårga, able to speak their language out of nowhere, and even transfering her emotions onto them. A true member of a community who accepts and respects her. And kills people. And gives her the opportunity to kill her boyfriend. You know, like real homies. Going to watch this with you on the weekend when I have the time. Good shit.

Amazing reaction. Just be careful with these A24 movies. Simone & George just got 90 day probation from these guys. Keep up the good work.
