Million Dollar Baby (2004) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Here to chime in my recommendations regarding Clint Eastwood directed films. BTW, I enjoyed watching this movie for the first time with y'alls reaction. Flags of Our Fathers (2006) Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) American Sniper (2015) Pale Rider (1985) The Outlaw Jose Wales (1976)

Lee N.

Great reaction to a wonderful but very tough film to watch. I haven’t watched it for several years, but it’s even more powerful than remembered. The commenter above suggested the same two Hilary I would recommend. She doesn’t have a very large catalog of great work, but those two certainly join this one as being among the best. So far as remaining Clint movies, two of the best are also directed by and starring him, and they’re both Westerns. The first is The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), and second is Pale Rider (1985). I think both of you would love them.

Honestly so excited that there’s so much more Clint! -Sam

Hahaha this comment is gold! I’ll never trust a Morgan Freeman narration again 😂 oh wow, two MCU actors! We haven’t seen Luke Cage but definitely recognized Anthony Mackie! -Sam

I knew you guys would love and appreciate this. I love this reaction so much.... This beautiful, tragic film is about so much more than boxing, it's a love story. It's about redemption, forgiveness, risk-taking, the search for family and God, the pursuit of a dream, a soul-shattering moral dilemma and the father-daughter relationship that develops between Frankie and Maggie. This easily has to be Clint Eastwood's best film he's directed with a stellar cast and great performances by Hillary Swank and Morgan Freeman next to Mystic River! Like someone else here mentioned, you guys should add "Play Misty for Me" Clint Eastwood's directorial debut to the list as well as "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" which stars Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges which they share a great chemistry between them. There's still many great and underrated films directed and or starred by Clint that I hope you guys get to react to. He's just....awesome!! Yes, Hilary Swank killed it and she's also great in "Boys Don't Cry" where she won an Oscar for best actress! She was also in "Insomnia" Directed by Christopher Nolan where she got to work with two great legendary actors, Al Pacino and Robin Williams.

I'd love to see Insomnia soon, and definitely as Hilary Swank's next one on the channel. It's not up there with Nolan's best stuff, but it's a great little mystery/thriller with a great cast (Robin Williams, Al Pacino, Hilary Swank).

Future Boy

I feel the same way. great movie but I just dont feel like watching it again.

Ed R

I think this might be the first reaction of yours that I'll skip, I just can't bear to watch this movie again.

Jen Barnes

Great commentary. This movie destroyed me too. I’ll never watch this again. I was crying the last twenty minutes, but so beautifully done. Hilary Swank has also been in Boys Don’t Cry and the Christopher Nolan film Insomnia. Both are great.

Robert Boyd

I'll throw in my usual plug for Thunderbolt and Lightfoot but also add Play Misty For Me, Clint's terrific directorial debut that first showed he was interested in making movies that were much different than the westerns and cop films that made him a superstar.

Brad P

Saw this with my dad and brother. I do not think I saw a dry eye leave the theater including ours of course. It is a great movie.

Matt O'Keefe

It's beside the point but I wanted to see the blue bear stripped of her title and incarcerated for attempted murder.

Bennett Holleman

two very different perspectives from reactor to viewer Daniel&Sam watching as the fight approaches ,smiling from ear to ear as the bagpipes start up ,feeling excitement hope and pride Me at the very same moment ,my heart stomach and expression on the floor ,knowing what awaits

Duncan

Loved watching this again with your reaction.

"I feel like Clint Eastwood just FUCKED me up." - Samantha Schmitt 2024 Truer words never been spoken, Sam. This movie got to me big time. Hilary Swank showed exactly why she is a 2-time Oscar winner. I felt so bad for her character after that last fight, and stuff like that really has you questioning your morals and beliefs. My silly butt thought this was gonna be like a female version of "Rocky", with Swank being Rocky and Clint being the Mickey role. I should've known shit would get real soon as Morgan Freeman started narrating. 🤣 Incredible movie, and unforgettable ending. Fuck Maggie's family and that Bear fighter bitch. lmao Thank you for the reaction! EDIT: I was looking up the actor who played Frankie's first fighter, because he looked familiar. He's "Luke Cage" from the MCU! And not only that, friggin' Falcon (Anthony Mackie) is in this, too. XD

EdmanXERO

jezuz! what a heartbreaker of a film, but damn fine acting!!!

Chris Bruneau

Something I've learned in the last hour or so is that trans folks aren't necessarily as enamored with Boys Don't Cry as cis folks seem to be. I wouldn't dissuade anyone from checking out the film in 2024, but it may warrant some followup reading for context.

Paul Cox

Since you asked about Hilary Swank movies, the most obvious one for me is 'Boys Don't Cry' which she won her first Best Actress Oscar. Another one I think you might like is called 'Freedom Writers'.

Mark M

Sorry, slipped my mind before, but you should definitely add Kelly's Heroes to the schedule. Great Eastwood film, and features a rousing Donald Sutherland support performance (R.I.P.). Plenty of good ones to discover later, but hit that one asap.

The "This is My Fighter" Line from Clint Catches me everytime ... Clint is such an Incredible Director !!! The Oscars are well Deserved, also for Morgan Freeman and Hilary Swank !! Love this Masterpiece but The Ending is one of the saddest of All Time :( Next Clint Please "Play Misty For Me" from 1971 ... also Directed by him ... You will love this one ;) And you have still so much more Clint to watch :) In The Line of Fire, A Perfect World, Space Cowboys, Tightrope, The Gauntlet, The Eiger Sanction, Kellys Heroes, Where Eagles Dare ....

Florian Meier

Not sure how it would lend itself to a reaction, but Swank won her first Oscar for Boys Don't Cry (2000). Worth seeing even if only off the channel. Next Eastwood film should be Thunderbolt & Lightfoot (1974) featuring a quite young Jeff Bridges and channel regular Gary Busey.

Paul Cox

thank you.
