Deja Vu (2006) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Deja Vu (2006) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

This was always my second favorite Denzel movie after remember the titans. Denzel is clearly the greatest actor of all-time. Great reaction as always.

BrooksHOF TV

half an hour left.. it was indeed Elle Fanning.. With Tony Scott's wife..

Gunnar Rea

One thing that always bothered me (not specifically this movie but lot of movies) female is involved in dire situation and there is danger...so when chance she gets, even though still in danger, she changes into a DRESS?!

Anthony Perez

The taking of phelam 123

James

Indeed! https://boxd.it/2SnHf

Paul Cox

Also Fallen and Out of Time

Richard

This is the movie I came here to recommend now that I've finished the video. I love Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and I agree that it is one of Kilmer's best performances. I feel that Spartan, released around the same time, deserves almost as much recognition. Also -- and this is *very* different from Spartan -- if you want to see Val like you've never seen him before, check out MacGruber (2010).

Tyler Foster

Do you use Letterboxd, Paul?

Tyler Foster

Would be great if you watched both the original Manchurian Candidate (1962) and the Denzel remake (2004). Maybe you could come up with a month of original/remake pairings. The Thomas Crown Affair (1968)/(1999) also comes to mind. In addition, you could check out some originals where you've already seen the remake or original, like The Thing From Another World (1951), Ocean's Eleven (1960), Dune (1984), and Road House (2024).

Tyler Foster

Fallen is great, and it was directed by the always underrated Gregory Hoblit who did Primal Fear!

Michael SCH

Let me also recommend Denzel's Fallen, a great movie that sadly gets no reactions, yes most likely because no one has heard of it. Another great Denzel / Tony Scott pairing is Unstoppable also starring Chris Pine.

Andrew Roach

No matter what happens…that little girl’s doll doesn’t make it. 🥹 😏

Tristan Durant

Hey, this Deja Vu contraption is actually a thing. SBIRS system, basically real time google earth with extreme magnification. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDTnl4E9FiY

Alex

Perfect choices. John Q for the next "popcorn" Denzel, The Hurricane for the next "heavy" Denzel.

Future Boy

This was one of my favourite ever reactions. Trippy mindf*cks are by far the best subgenre for reactions. Watching you try to work out a messy, trippy mystery is such great fun. I would love, LOVE, to see you react to Triangle (2009). It's a very different story (a horror mystery), but it shares a couple of ideas with Deja Vu. It won't win a poll, but the next time you're in the mood for a true mind-benber, take a chance on it. You'll go down a 2 day rabbit hole after watching it, trying to work out what the hell you just saw.

Future Boy

More Denzel The Hurricane 1999 John Q 2002

Duncan

If you want Val Kilmer in his prime you'll love Batman Forever

Odd Thomas

A great Denzel film is The Manchurian Candidate.

Odd Thomas

Val Kilmer is in "Willow" (1988 Action/Adventure). Watch this movie if you want a classic Val Kilmer flick.

Eddy

The car chase is the best part of the film - at least it's the most memorable scene in the film.

Michael SCH

It's been so long since I've seen this movie. I love it! For Denzel movies, I highly recommend Fallen and Ricochet (Altho the latter might be because I'm such a hug John Lithgow fan)

TGrimace

Another Great Scott/Washington Film is "The Taking of Pelham 123" from 2009 with John Travolta !!! This is a Great Remake, but i would watch the Original Version First from 1974 with Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw ... I also recommend "The Bone Collector" from 1999 as next Denzel ... A great Thriller with Angelina Jolie as Co Star ...

Florian Meier

Spartan is fanTAStic! And another David Mamet gem that riffs very similar to it is Heist (2001) with Gene Hackman.

Jay Davis

My vote for the next Denzel is Malcolm X, the best performance of his career imo.

Birdie Num Num

Apparently the writers of Deja Vu were not pleased with what Scott did to their script(which they say had no plot holes)

Birdie Num Num

Unfortunately for her, she's probably best known for being the ex-wife of Robin Thicke who gave him what he had coming to him.

Paul Cox

Paula Patton was in Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, so maybe you have seen her before?

Birdie Num Num

Nope, but just added it to the list. Thanks! (edit: wow! I see she died just two years after making The Ascent while scouting locations for Klimov's Farewell—a film that I tracked down and will make time for eventually.)

Paul Cox

Since you mentioned you were going through female directors, have you seen Larisa Shepitko's The Ascent (1977)? Saw it a few years ago, its pretty great. Shepitko was married to the director of Come and See.

Birdie Num Num

I remember liking Mississippi Masala quite a bit when I rented the VHS in '92. Siskel and Ebert loved it(they were the equivalent of Rotten Tomatoes back then, haha). I see it was made part of the Criterion Collection in 2022, guess it has some staying power.

Birdie Num Num

As an aside, I'm working through my own project of watching films from female directors I've never previously seen and Mississippi Masala (1991) (Denzel and Sarita Choudhury, dir: Mira Nair) is on my watchlist for the weekend. I'm sure it's probably a good recommendation anyway, but I'll come back after seeing it and let you know lol.

Paul Cox

It comes up every time you so much as mention Val Kilmer's name, but Real Genius (1985) is a truly key movie in his career. As for Denzel, there's still so much to see! Malcolm X, Devil in a Blue Dress, and The Hurricane would be my most emphatic suggestions for where to venture next.

Paul Cox

I hope you enjoy it! I think a re-watch is going to be even better! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

ironically I had déjà vu earlier today! And now you're both watching this movie! Of all days… Coincidence? Destiny? Chance? Life is crazy like that sometimes. I sometimes wonder if there is some truth of life with all its weird connections

Terry Lee

Ooh thank you for the recommendation! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

got the blu-ray for this one. Love Tony Scott and I need more Val Kilmer in my life. Speaking of which if you want to watch one of the most grounded, well written spy thrillers of all time, SPARTAN starring Val Kilmer. It's fast, doesn't hold your hand, but it's also not trying to be Mission Impossible or James Bond. It feels real.

djKENTO

Been looking forward to this one. Haven't seen it since it came out and I really don't remember it very much
