Oof!! I cracked up at that while eating. Almost choked to death. jk

Definitely second those recommendations. "Brewster's Millions" (1985) was even on Reelin' With Asia & BJ's YT channel.

Other good John Candy movies to watch are, The Great Outdoors with Dan Aykroyd and Brewster's Millions. In that one he is the co-star. The lead actor is Richard Pryor.

FYI the Jamaicans also competed in the two man bobsled and finished in 30th place out of 41 teams. And their crash actually happended during the fourth race, not the third.

The real MVP was the lucky egg that made sure noone died in the crash.

This movie was awesome! Although inspired by true events the movie is almost entirely fictional. There was no bigotry or bullying, the locals were very friendly and welcoming to the Jamaicans in reality. But conflict creates good drama I guess. They also were not sprinters but were selected from the Jamaican army.

Great reaction to a great movie! One of my faves as a kid. If only they made a sequel, "Cooler Runnings". 😜 If you want more John Candy, I recommend "Rookie of the Year" if you haven't seen that already.

This was a very touching film while also being very inspirational as well. It's also my favorite John Candy film along with Uncle Buck. :) Leon (the actor that played Derice) was definitely in top physical condition for this role. The Jamaicans still haven't won a medal in the bobsled event, but I look forward to the day when it happens. Without Limits (1998) and Chariots of Fire (1981) are also two more fantastic Olympic films.

"He did the worst thing you can do at the Olympics" Well, I think Nancy Kerrigan might want to have a word with you about that......

TGrimace

This is true, during the RL Olympics, they were 100% the darlings of the entire thing

Sarah

I've only seen this movie once, and I didn't really care for it then, but I love you guys's reactions, and since I listened to your before and afterthoughts and saw how much you liked it, I'm going to give it another shot after I finish adulting for the day. I have a list of recommendations I'd like to make now because I know I'll forget if I wait until I watch the whole reaction. Each movie is recommended for different reasons relevant to this reaction. First, you guys have got to see Iron Will. I think I recommended it before. I won't say why, because it would spoil the plot, but i think you guys would love it, just based on having seen so many of your reactions. It has no chance of winning a poll, but it's a great Walt Disney film, and live action. If you do react to it, I'd advise not looking it up, so you don't get spoiled. The blinder you go in, the better it will be for you, and us. For more John Candy, I recommend Splash, and Only the Lonely. Both have lots of heart, plenty of laughs, and a nice romance. Candy is a great lead in Only The Lonely, and he plays a funny secondary character in Splash. Tom Hanks is the lead in Splash, and it's one of his earlier roles, before he took on more serious fare like The Green Mile. Splash is a classic 80s flick that also stars a stunning Daryl Hannah alongside Hanks. Oh, and if neither of you have seen it, don't look Splash up or look at the poster at all. That one would be super fun if you go in blind. For more films involving contests or competitive elements: Days of Thunder - Tom Cruise, Nichole Kidman, and it's about car racing, very Olympics-like in spirit The Cutting Edge - about the Olympics, but entirely fictional. Girls Just Want to Have Fun - 80s, about dancing, with a beautiful Sarah Jessica Parker, Hellen Hunt, and a very young Shannon Doherty, well before her role on the original Charmed. Along with Iron Will, it's one of my favorite movies, but for very different reasons. Looking forward to watching Cool Runnings later. I love John Candy too. :D

Raven Dark

They just had to lol I completely believe you.

PIG

it is based on a true story but in reality the rest of the world treated them a lot nicer and help them out. The movie just had to make things dramatic for entertainment

Terry Lee

I’m sure you guys have learned by now that this was in fact inspired by true events. In fact, this all happened during the same Olympics as the story told in Eddie the Eagle.
