War Film Poll!

Help pick the War movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen Three Kings, so this would only be Sam's first time watching!

We received a ton suggestions on the last polls, but we are trying to keep the poll sizes more reasonable. We have noted all suggestions for future polls!

The eagle has landed (1976)

christopher brown

Have you seen Gallipoli (1981)?

James Rogers

I agree Towering Inferno is a great disaster movie

christopher brown

Path to War (2002) the incremental steps...

YoureMrLebowski

Heartbreak Ridge (1986) "SWEDE!!"

YoureMrLebowski

I second this choice, I love this movie

christopher brown

As a former paratrooper, I second this choice. :)

Ed Bartlett

Oops…came up with another one. Although at first blush, many people would think it’s a straight up Science Fiction film with aliens as the antagonists. When I first watched it, I was struck how little the movie focuses on the aliens and more on the inner workings of a squad of U.S. Marines. If the enemy weren’t aliens it would work just as well (if not better) as a military / war movie. The movie? “Battle Los Angeles” (2011) starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, among others.

Miles E Coburn

A bridge too far (1977)

christopher brown

“The Fighting Sullivans” (1946)

Jeff Mills

I vacillate between Barry Lyndon and 2001.

iliketostayhome

It's not really a war movie, but Barry Lyndon is my favorite Kubrick movie.

bosho11

I second, "To Catch a Thief" (1955)

Miles E Coburn

A Very Long Engagement (2004)

Odd Thomas

The Horse's Mouth and Tunes of Glory are 2 other great performances. And his breakthrough role in another Lean film - Oliver Twist

Birdie Num Num

they had a disaster poll last year, armageddon won. but i would like to see another one - with more 70s films included like earthquake and towering inferno

Birdie Num Num

Ooh Lifeboat! Tallulah Bankhead is from my hometown (and gets nowhere near the amount of respect she deserves there).

Paul Cox

Barry Lyndon. Someday...

iliketostayhome

Hi Sam and Dan, I think it would be good to have a disaster movie 🎥 poll 😁 I don’t think you’ve done one… unless of course I missed it 😂

Michael Seaney

Hey Sam & Dan, when’s the next Hitchcock reaction? Maybe a poll? Notorious, Rebecca, To Catch a Thief, Rope, Shadow of a Doubt, Lifeboat… ?

Catherine LW

This is not my Genre, but i recommend two All Time Classics with Lee Marvin .. "The Dirty Dozen" from 1967 and "Hell in the Pacific" from 1968 ... Must Watch for WAR

Florian Meier

Hi Daniel & Sam, I would like to suggest (To Hell & Back) from 1955. It is the true story of the career of Actor Audie Murphy from home to War service. Secondly for around 6/6/24 if possible, (The Longest Day) 1962, it was the go to D-Day film before (Saving Pvt. Ryan).

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

Don't forget about The Dirty Dozen.

John Fitzpatrick

Forget the pole and watch 13 hours

Justin

A Bridge Too Far (1977) would be a good one to add to this list.

Michael Buhl

Forgot one - "Open Range" (2003) - kinda, sorta Old West Range War, stars Robert Duvall, Kevin Costner, Diego Luna, Michael Gambon

Miles E Coburn

It's not gonna win but I appreciate y'all putting The Alamo in the poll, I might just have to take my chances on the monthly drawing Schmitthead roulette lol

dieselbeast

The Alamo (1960) with John Wayne

christopher brown

It could fit in several categories. War, comedy, crime...

Bill Woods

I wish casualties of war with Michael J Fox was on the list!

Kyle Hopkins

Tora! Tora!” (1970) – World War II, stars Martin Balsam, Sô Yamamura, Jason Robards

Miles E Coburn

Three Kings wasn't my favorite movie when it came out, but I was in Desert Storm so I admit watching it with a very critical eye at the time

Smooticus

1949's "Battleground" classic Hollywood's take on the Battle of the Bulge. It would be neat to compare that great movie to modern Hollywood's take on the same battle !

Keith Brown

Bridge of the River Kwai... another good David Lean movie to go a long with Lawrence of Arabia that you've already watched. All we need now is Doctor Zhivago (which you could put in the list... though it's more a revolution, but set around World War One!) So the three best David Lean movies are set during World Wars... never thought about that before. :)

Michael Seaney

Not enough reactions to enemy at the gates, gets my vote

Deano

Unless you've both already seen it, you need to react to Schindler's List. Super hard watch, but a masterpiece.

Raven Dark

I gotta vote only Kelly's Heroes here. Not that the other movies are bad. They're not. But Kelly's Heroes has to be one of my all time favorite films. Can't even count the number of times I've watched it over the years. Really looking forward to a reactor reaction on it.

Jay Davis

I can't remember if it was Dustin Hoffman or Lily Tomlin who talked about how much of a monster he was on the Huckabees set, but it sounded like a nightmare.

Paul Cox

He harassed his own niece! Even as far back as Three Kings, he was pissing people off, as Clooney almost got in a fistfight with him over Russell badgering an extra.

Tyler Foster

He's a sex pest and generally egomaniacal douche canoe.

Paul Cox

Enemy at the Gates is fantastic. Haven't seen anything else on this poll but Three Kings (also good). I'm just realising I need to see more war movies.

Tostito Buddy

I loved SLP and Three Kings. Why does he seem like a terrible guy?

Mark Kelso

The hurt locker 📈

MateoP

Can't believe I miss the Popcorn in Bed reaction. But I'm not a patron, so I wouldn't see the whole film.

David Martin

Kind Hearts and Coronets - tough to categorize that one. Another Alec Guinness excellent performance.

David Martin

I haven't seen SLP. I have had Flirting With Disaster on my re-watch pile for about a year and a half but I don't remember it at all.

Tyler Foster

The Sands of Iwo Jima or Mr. Roberts

Shepherd Kelley

I'd add Silver Linings Playbook and Flirting With Disaster along with those to my list of faves. Still need to see American Hustle. The trailer was fly.

Paul Cox

Oh man, some great titles up there, but there's only two choices: Paths Of Glory and Bridge On The River Kwai. And I gotta go Paths Of Glory!

Toc

Popcorn in Bed reacted to Bridge on the River Kwai about 6 months ago.

Hunter DeRensis

Three Kings is so good and quite underrated. David O. Russell seems like a terrible guy but both Kings and I Heart Huckabees are personal favorites.

Tyler Foster

I would also be thrilled if Kind Hearts and Coronets turned up someplace.

Tyler Foster

Too bad 'Come and See' (1985) didn't make the cut this time, but y'all need to watch it eventually. It's HEAVY heavy, not just regular heavy.

Paul Cox

Yes. Finally I might see a reaction (by any reviewer) to Bridge on the River Kwai. See Obi-Wan Kenobi in his Oscar-winning performance.

David Martin
