2024-06-04 15:59:19 +0000 UTCOops…came up with another one. Although at first blush, many people would think it’s a straight up Science Fiction film with aliens as the antagonists. When I first watched it, I was struck how little the movie focuses on the aliens and more on the inner workings of a squad of U.S. Marines. If the enemy weren’t aliens it would work just as well (if not better) as a military / war movie. The movie? “Battle Los Angeles” (2011) starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, among others.

2024-06-01 17:32:25 +0000 UTCIt's not really a war movie, but Barry Lyndon is my favorite Kubrick movie.

2024-05-31 19:20:42 +0000 UTCHi Sam and Dan, I think it would be good to have a disaster movie 🎥 poll 😁 I don’t think you’ve done one… unless of course I missed it 😂

2024-05-31 19:15:34 +0000 UTCHey Sam & Dan, when’s the next Hitchcock reaction? Maybe a poll? Notorious, Rebecca, To Catch a Thief, Rope, Shadow of a Doubt, Lifeboat… ?

2024-05-31 18:56:18 +0000 UTCThis is not my Genre, but i recommend two All Time Classics with Lee Marvin .. "The Dirty Dozen" from 1967 and "Hell in the Pacific" from 1968 ... Must Watch for WAR
Florian Meier
2024-05-31 16:23:45 +0000 UTCHi Daniel & Sam, I would like to suggest (To Hell & Back) from 1955. It is the true story of the career of Actor Audie Murphy from home to War service. Secondly for around 6/6/24 if possible, (The Longest Day) 1962, it was the go to D-Day film before (Saving Pvt. Ryan).

2024-05-31 15:19:32 +0000 UTCDon't forget about The Dirty Dozen.

2024-05-31 14:45:14 +0000 UTCA Bridge Too Far (1977) would be a good one to add to this list.
Michael Buhl
2024-05-31 14:31:05 +0000 UTCForgot one - "Open Range" (2003) - kinda, sorta Old West Range War, stars Robert Duvall, Kevin Costner, Diego Luna, Michael Gambon

2024-05-31 13:18:14 +0000 UTCIt's not gonna win but I appreciate y'all putting The Alamo in the poll, I might just have to take my chances on the monthly drawing Schmitthead roulette lol

2024-05-31 12:53:21 +0000 UTCThe Alamo (1960) with John Wayne

2024-05-31 12:24:28 +0000 UTCIt could fit in several categories. War, comedy, crime...

2024-05-31 12:15:14 +0000 UTCI wish casualties of war with Michael J Fox was on the list!

2024-05-31 11:27:12 +0000 UTCThree Kings wasn't my favorite movie when it came out, but I was in Desert Storm so I admit watching it with a very critical eye at the time
Smooticus
2024-05-31 11:04:03 +0000 UTC1949's "Battleground" classic Hollywood's take on the Battle of the Bulge. It would be neat to compare that great movie to modern Hollywood's take on the same battle !
Keith Brown
2024-05-31 10:38:09 +0000 UTCBridge of the River Kwai... another good David Lean movie to go a long with Lawrence of Arabia that you've already watched. All we need now is Doctor Zhivago (which you could put in the list... though it's more a revolution, but set around World War One!) So the three best David Lean movies are set during World Wars... never thought about that before. :)

2024-05-31 08:33:49 +0000 UTCNot enough reactions to enemy at the gates, gets my vote

2024-05-31 07:21:48 +0000 UTCUnless you've both already seen it, you need to react to Schindler's List. Super hard watch, but a masterpiece.
Raven Dark
2024-05-31 07:02:34 +0000 UTCI gotta vote only Kelly's Heroes here. Not that the other movies are bad. They're not. But Kelly's Heroes has to be one of my all time favorite films. Can't even count the number of times I've watched it over the years. Really looking forward to a reactor reaction on it.
Jay Davis
2024-05-31 07:00:35 +0000 UTCI can't remember if it was Dustin Hoffman or Lily Tomlin who talked about how much of a monster he was on the Huckabees set, but it sounded like a nightmare.
Paul Cox
2024-05-31 06:40:33 +0000 UTCHe harassed his own niece! Even as far back as Three Kings, he was pissing people off, as Clooney almost got in a fistfight with him over Russell badgering an extra.

2024-05-31 06:25:49 +0000 UTCEnemy at the Gates is fantastic. Haven't seen anything else on this poll but Three Kings (also good). I'm just realising I need to see more war movies.

2024-05-31 06:17:50 +0000 UTCCan't believe I miss the Popcorn in Bed reaction. But I'm not a patron, so I wouldn't see the whole film.
David Martin
2024-05-31 06:10:27 +0000 UTCKind Hearts and Coronets - tough to categorize that one. Another Alec Guinness excellent performance.
David Martin
2024-05-31 06:09:14 +0000 UTCI haven't seen SLP. I have had Flirting With Disaster on my re-watch pile for about a year and a half but I don't remember it at all.

2024-05-31 06:02:55 +0000 UTCI'd add Silver Linings Playbook and Flirting With Disaster along with those to my list of faves. Still need to see American Hustle. The trailer was fly.

2024-05-31 06:02:48 +0000 UTCOh man, some great titles up there, but there's only two choices: Paths Of Glory and Bridge On The River Kwai. And I gotta go Paths Of Glory!

2024-05-31 06:02:32 +0000 UTCPopcorn in Bed reacted to Bridge on the River Kwai about 6 months ago.

2024-05-31 05:57:54 +0000 UTCThree Kings is so good and quite underrated. David O. Russell seems like a terrible guy but both Kings and I Heart Huckabees are personal favorites.
Tyler Foster
2024-05-31 05:57:06 +0000 UTCI would also be thrilled if Kind Hearts and Coronets turned up someplace.

2024-05-31 05:56:02 +0000 UTCToo bad 'Come and See' (1985) didn't make the cut this time, but y'all need to watch it eventually. It's HEAVY heavy, not just regular heavy.
Paul Cox
2024-05-31 05:48:52 +0000 UTCYes. Finally I might see a reaction (by any reviewer) to Bridge on the River Kwai. See Obi-Wan Kenobi in his Oscar-winning performance.
