Saw (2004) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Saw (2004) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

"It Follows" was the scariest American film I've seen. It's also a legitimately good movie

Starman Deluxe

Why didn't Lawrence just cut off his heel instead of his whole foot? Being a surgeon, seems like he'd be sure to think of a more optimal solution than cutting off his whole foot.

i don't think tapp knew the family was tied up, the blinds were closed and he only saw zepp peaking out. once he heard the gunshots he rushed in. i enjoy the series, not for the "torture porn" but for the stories and backstory on Jigsaw. The first three i think are the best, they do have that mystery element.

Wrote a long comment and of course Patreon ate it. Will try to remember what I said: Going to repeat what I said on the schedule post: I think the Saw movies' reputation as all torture is overstated, largely by people who do not like these kinds of movies and don't watch them. Yes, they are graphically violent (although honestly most of the worst stuff in the upcoming movies isn't the torture -- there's a wild surgery sequence in one, as well as a detailed autopsy, and a sequence involving rotting meat that's really gross), but they also continue to try and deliver on the first movie's wild twist ending with more convoluted mystery stories, which I'm sure Sam will appreciate. It's also worth noting that most of the sequels have a more intense scene upfront to try and get the audience riled up right at the start, so if Sam watched the beginning of one, it definitely will calm down for awhile after that. Saw was an extremely low-budget debut for James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell (who also played Adam), shot in only 18 days, which is why the acting is underwhelming -- the bigger cast members were only available for so long and the production could only afford to do so many takes. This ended up helping Saw become the most profitable horror franchise of all time: even the last movie, Saw X (2023) only cost $13m, which is extremely thrifty given it made $111m. Wan went onto co-create the Insidious series with Whannell and then the Conjuring movies, and he directed the seventh Fast and Furious movie, which is really funny considering the car chase in this one was achieved by zooms and fast-cutting with the cars sitting completely stationary in the warehouse where the sets were all built. Whannell, meanwhile, directed the popular Blumhouse movies Upgrade and The Invisible Man, and he's following the latter up with a Wolf Man that is being made right now. I haven't watched Insidious, but the first Conjuring is really well-made, and I think Upgrade and especially The Invisible Man are both great and I hope the latter makes the channel (it's a complete contemporary update, so seeing the original first is not strictly necessary). As mentioned, I think Saw VI would be a good place to stop. In the subsequent five movies, you learn a ton about Jigsaw's backstory as someone else mentioned, and I personally love Saw, Saw IV, and Saw VI as my three favorite entries. Many others will go to bat for Saw III as well. Saw VI even brings in some social commentary that I think is even more potent in 2024 than it was in 2009, which is probably why Saw X returns to that same subject. Also, if you guys like escape rooms, the two Escape Room movies are like a PG-13 version of the Saw movies with a fancy special effects budget. They're silly but a ton of fun. If you're looking for something less graphic but has the same flavor I'd check them out -- and make sure the second one is the Extended Cut, which is wildly different than the theatrical cut. It's a shame they recut it and that it came out during COVID, because I think the original cut would've been more successful, and maybe they'd have been able to do a third to close out the series.

Great Reaction

The first one had me hooked the whole time, and absolutely blew my mind with that ending. So of course I had to make my teenage daughter watch it with me, and we both loved it so much we watched the next four movies together as well. What my daughter and I really enjoyed about the sequels we watched was getting more backstory to Jigsaw. Otherwise they are just more of the same dialed up to eleven.

Enjoyable, but IMO this is, by far, the best of the series, I don't recommend doing the rest!

Yes.

Exactly what Daniel said about the decline of the series. The first three being from the original writers have a connected plot. After that, I think it's just torture porn so I wouldn't watch past the 3rd one, in my opinion. I loved the first three even if they do get weaker, but then I watched the 4th just to see what they were doing now that the creators were not in charge of the story and I hated it, to be honest. So yeah, in my opinion, I'm looking forward to at least the reaction of the first three, nothing beyond that. 🫣

I'm surprised you haven't watched this yet on the channel, always a classic. So messed up

Im glad you're feeling better Sam 🙏Health is wealth! 😊..... In regards to Saw I was 15 when this came out in theaters and after watching it I didn't want to go to sleep that night cause I was afraid I was gonna wake up in one of Jigsaws traps lmao 😂🤦‍♂️, I hope y'all continue with the series very much worth it, it's more then just "torture porn" in my opinion, there are intriguing stories imo 😁

dieselbeast

Is this the unrated version?

Ricardo Alanis

This will be fun to re-watch knowing the ending. I don't think I've seen it since it came out.
