Dog Day Afternoon (1975) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Great Reaction

christopher brown

I was hoping that Fright Night would get a reaction after this so you could see Chris Sarandon(Leon) in a completely different light,

Mark M

I watched Sea of Love in theatres when it first came out. I loved it but I'm not sure how suspenseful it would be for modern audiences.

Mark M

I've been wanting to watch Serpico for years so hopefully you guys react to it

f hf

This was a nice surprise! Ty both for doing this reaction to one of my favorite Al Pacino flicks. Here's some recommendations for more Pacino films you haven't reacted to yet. I know there's many more and some have been mentioned but these are my personal favorites. Serpico 1973 And Justice for All 1979 Frankie and Johnny 1991 Donnie Brasco 1997 The Devil's Advocate 1997 Any Given Sunday 1999

The Conversation 1974, is a great film. And some of us film nerds will point to another Gene Hackman film that, to some of us, feels like a followup of his character in that one. As if to show us "where are they now". Enemy of the State 1998 can be thought of as showing an older version of him in modern times as a man who could very well have been the guy from The Conversation.

Attica was a prison riot in 1971 where the state police in NY used live ammunition on the governor's orders to stop the riot. Innocent men as well as guilty were killed including some hostages.

There was also Uncle Junior as Sonny's father

Kevin Charley

Taking of Pelham 1,2,3 is another great movie from the 70's.

Brian Anthony

I haven't watched it yet -- I've been waiting until after I rewatch this, which, now I have a great reason to -- but there's also a 2013 documentary called The Dog about John Wojtowicz, the guy who Sonny is based on.

Tyler Foster

The number of comments with likes referencing The Conversation is making me feel confident and pleased that a reaction to it will happen at some point. Don't put it on a poll, just put it on the schedule! It's a masterpiece!

I was wondering if Daniel and Sam were going to recognize Lance Henriksen, who played the FBI agent who shot Sal. Henriksen played Bishop in Aliens, and was also in The Terminator.

Samolina Pilchard

You may have already found this but this is an ABC news report with footage of the actual robbery. https://youtu.be/75LQKUF9wC0?si=gb_Vej0NXaKXPlYK

Lumet is a safe bet at almost any point in his career, but I'd put my whole chest in recommending Network next.

Paul Cox

Woah, no way! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I had a feeling it was not helping that Sonny kept alluding to how violent Sal would be if something went wrong! I was not anticipating that though! 😳 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Omg no we didn’t! And I usually pick up on that, wow! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I didn’t realize this was Lumet! We loved 12 Angry Men! -Sam

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts! -Sam

One crazy thing is that "Sonny" (not actually the guy's name) only served five of that twenty year sentence.

Jeffrey Miller

They decided to kill Sal based on what the main teller said in her interview, that he was quiet and something not right about him. Plus Sonny kept on reminding them that Sal was going to kill the hostages if they tried anything funny when he came out to talk to Moretti. Another great aspect of this film is the offhanded humor. Sonny wrestling with the flower box, trying to shake the rifle free. Sonny jumping up and down with spray paint, trying to cover the security cameras… The main teller sassing at the police and her captors… crazy guy calling and telling Sonny to kill them all… the crowds chanting “Put them down” to the cops, meaning lower their guns… you just can’t make this stuff up! There’s not a weak performance in this film, to the credit of director Sidney Lumet. Great stars, great supporting actors in every role. Fun reaction, Sam’s look of shock at the swift eruption of violence in the end 😳

Love "...And Justice for All"!

VivendoBem

You're so right! It's a real shame The Conversation is nearly forgotten today by just about everyone other than film nerds, but it's probably a top 5 film from arguably the greatest decade of American film. Hackman is masterful.

You must absolutely watch Al Pacino's early very great movie from 1973 called Serpico. It's the first of his movies that I ever saw when I was a teen. Another great movie is from 1979 Al Pacino "And Justice for All". an amazing movie. Lastly please check out Sea of Love from 1989 with Ellen Barkin, great crime story

Lana Gorgeous

Donnie Brasco another true story Al Pacino and Johnny Depp

RoadZombie

Attica was a famous prison riot in NY in 1971 that ended with the deaths of many inmates. HBO Max made a doc about it on the 50th anniversary in 2021.

Birdie Num Num

did you notice there was no music score? interesting creative choice.

Birdie Num Num

This was part of the best Best Picture lineup in history imo. The 1975 nominees were Dog Day, Jaws, Barry Lyndon, Nashville and the winner One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Birdie Num Num

In addition to other great Pacino films mentioned(Serpico, And Justice for All etc) I would suggest Scarecrow(has Pacino AND Gene Hackman). Also- it's a road movie.

Birdie Num Num

RIP John Cazale---the guy was in only five movies and every one was nominated for best picture!!!

Chris Bruneau

"Is there any special country you want to go to?" "Wyoming." "Sal, Wyoming's not a country." Love this movie. Other great Sidney Lumet movies: '12 Angry Men', 'Serpico', 'Murder on the Orient Express' (the original, and still the best), 'Network' (one of my all-time favorites), 'The Verdict' (also one of my all-time favorites), 'Before the Devil Knows You're Dead'.

Steve Mercier

You've now seen all of John Cazale's legendary 5-film output except for Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation, a film which, rather incredibly, came out the same year as The Godfather Part II (one of a handful of times a director has had two Best Picture nominees running against each other). The Conversation is a great film featuring one of Gene Hackman's best performances.

Brad P

Always wanted to see this. Will now, along with the Schmitts...(uh) -es

Yes !! What a Classic ... From the Acting Standpoint this film is in the Top 3 of Al Pacino for me !!! I always loved Pacino in his early Roles !! You must watch "Serpico" from 1975 and "And Justice for All" from 1979 .. also a favorite one of me is "Sea of Love" from 1989 .... Also a Must Watch is John Casales "The Conversation" from 1974 with Gene Hackman ...

Florian Meier

After I watched the documentary ‘I knew it was you: Rediscovering John Cazale’ I realized he was born in my area of Massachusetts. His grave is about 5 minutes from my house.

Mark Ultimatemusings

I'd never thought about that before, but yeah, you're right

Smooticus

Always thought it was eerie that he died from lung cancer after having his own scene based around it in DDA.

Paul Cox

Yes!!!! Can’t wait to watch this after work tonight!!! 😀

Catherine LW

Pacino's 3rd movie with John Cazale (The Godfather and Godfather 2 were the others), probably his era's most under appreciated actor. He only made 5 films, passing away from lung cancer in 1978. All 5 of those films were nominated for the Oscar for best picture - The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, and The Deer Hunter.

Smooticus

Can't wait to watch this later!
