Edgar Allen Poe wrote The Raven, it was released January 19 1845. I've heard people call it the crow...but it's definitely a raven.
This show only gets better....I can't wait. Thanks for the reaction!

Then there is the Devil/Death/demon or whatever she is Verna which is an anagram for raven. In the second episode you see the name RUE at the place where Vic does her chimp experiments again from the Rue Morgue. And the ship in a bottle that Roderick and Lenore were building could be a reference to a story called Message Found in a Bottle. Oh yeah, a big one from the first episode: The Premature Burial pretty much describes what happened to Roderick and Madeline's mother in the first episode.
In those days people were so afraid of being buried alive that they had strings attached to bells above ground just in case you woke up.

This is my second time through the series. Some of the things I have noted so far: The names of course. Some others I caught are Arthur Pym named after Gordon Pym, a passenger on a ship called The Grampus (which is also what Lenore calls Roderick), Auguste Dupin which is the name of Poe's detective who was in a couple of stories like "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" and supposedly was the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes.

Your guys' monitor must still be a little too dark if you couldn't clearly see the figure standing behind Dupin.

I mentioned a week ago that I was going back to watch all of Flanagan's shows with your reactions. I had the whole week off and ended up binging them all a lot faster than I thought I would. Hill House is probably the best, but Midnight Mass comes extremely close by a razor's edge. Bly Manor is great too but the twists didn't catch me off guard the same way. I'm not even sure I've heard Sam swear before, so "Fuck Bev!" nearly made me do a spit take. I'm partway through The Midnight Club right now and I hope you guys end up watching it soon.

No spoilers, but there are Edgar Allen Poe references all through every episode. All of the episode titles are the names of Poe's short stories, the poetry that is recited by several characters is Poe's actual verse, the characters are all named after his characters like Annabelle Lee, Lenore, Prospero. You would have to be familiar with all of his works and watch the episodes a few times to get them all I'm sure. Someone has probably already done that I'd bet. And of course it was The Raven, not The Crow (a movie with Brandon Lee, Bruce's son).

Like all Flanagan's series, this is even better on the re-watch. You guys are throwing out A LOT of theories, it's fun to hear some of your wildly (in)accurate leaps. Looking forward to hearing them evolve as you watch more episodes.
