2024-03-13 05:23:35 +0000 UTCAt some point you shold watch Yojimbo. It's what Fistful of Dollars is based on, and will add to your Kurosawa experience

2024-03-06 16:42:26 +0000 UTCBrotherhood of the Wolf will never win a poll, but its really a great action/thriller and I hope you find time to watch it, even if its not for the chan.

2024-03-01 02:05:21 +0000 UTCAlso, while The Host (2006) is certainly a popular Bong Joon Ho film, the one I most want you to see (assuming you've already seen Parasite) is Memories of Murder. You guys love crime movies and Memories of Murder is a masterpiece. It has many things in common with David Fincher's Zodiac, and frankly, not that I have anything against Zodiac, but I think Memories of Murder is a much better movie.

2024-02-29 19:09:04 +0000 UTCMy heart is with Society of the Snow. I hope it wins the Oscar for best Foreign Picture this year. I don't see it winning in this poll, but I hope you guys consider it for a future watch. My impression is that many compare it with "Alive," but, as much as I enjoyed Frank Marshall's movie back in the day, this one is way better. Thoughtful and introspective, enough to gain the respect of the survivors, who supported Bayona's efforts. Also, shot in Spanish, which was a plus for Spanish-speaking audiences, and made sense when considering the actual context of the, "Miracle of the Andes." On the other hand, I am glad to see that "Downfall," is getting a chance here. Hirschbiegel did a superb job with this movie, one that many historians regards as accurate as it can be. You should definitively see that one. After you've seen Bruno Ganz's portrait of Hitler, you will not regard any other incarnation of this sinister character as believable as this.

2024-02-29 15:20:36 +0000 UTCIt's my favourite film of the last 15 years or so

2024-02-29 11:17:40 +0000 UTCBrotherhood of the Wolf is awesome, but definitely needs to be seen in the original french, the movie isn't the same without it.

2024-02-29 02:07:44 +0000 UTCFYI: Intouchables(2011) should go on future Foreign Film polls. PS voters should give it a watch and see if they don't end up voting for it.

2024-02-29 00:23:28 +0000 UTCPeople hardly vote for anything that’s before the 70’s. Very narrow.

2024-02-28 20:40:11 +0000 UTCDownfall is brilliant. Too bad it won’t win.

2024-02-28 20:39:24 +0000 UTCDario Argento for sure man

2024-02-28 18:13:41 +0000 UTCSuspiria/Inferno/Tenebre would be a cool "unofficial" trilogy for them to investigate, for sure.

2024-02-28 17:40:12 +0000 UTCSo many excellent films in this poll; It's hard to choose just one to root for!

2024-02-28 15:49:28 +0000 UTCYou can't go wrong with Kurosawa so I had to vote for Yojimbo

2024-02-28 13:32:45 +0000 UTCGreat film, but sadly it won't win any polls. Many here seem to have seen few films pre 1970. I've also seen it recommended on Popcorn in Bed as well.

2024-02-28 12:09:22 +0000 UTCI'm torn about Downfall (aka Der Untergang). On the one hand I want to recommend the Extended Cut. On the other hand, I don't want to alienate anyone from the hosts to fellow subscribers who can't easily find the EC. 😭

2024-02-28 10:18:52 +0000 UTC-you should see the 1942 romantic drama "Random Harvest". It takes place in England between WW1 and WW2. The story of a soldier with amnesia who finds love. It's available of Amazon. You will both be crying at the end.

2024-02-28 09:30:55 +0000 UTCGiven you guys have such great pre and post discussions, I think Yojimbo is a must watch at some point.

2024-02-28 08:54:06 +0000 UTCAnd you absolutely have to watch "Tampopo" I actually can't believe that I can't find a single reaction of someone watching that for the first time.... it is a gem of a film... please do get to it... I know there's too many films... and a lot of popular ones win the polls... but tampopo is special... so is society of the snow... Amelie is great, but , .. c'mon...
Sutil
2024-02-28 08:35:44 +0000 UTCIt truly is a lot more satisfying when you both haven't seen the film... I lover her insights and comments too... but it's just not the same... but I'm still glad you make those videos... I'm just sayin' . But hey guys, I know "Society of the snow" did not win the poll... but you HAVE to react to it if you both havent seen it... if one of you has seen it then whatever, skip it... but please do! I'll go up a tier or whatever
Sutil
2024-02-28 08:33:24 +0000 UTCI know it's not winning or even close to it, but I'm overjoyed just to see Tampopo even in the conversation. Such a wonderful movie.

2024-02-28 08:01:32 +0000 UTCRun Lola Run is a German Classic !!! I love Franka Potente in this

2024-02-28 07:32:03 +0000 UTCAlong with Kurosawa, I'd be fascinated to see what you two think of the work of Yasujirō Ozu, Japan's other renowned classic filmmaker. His movie Tokyo Story (1953) is considered one of the greatest of all time, and definitely worth including on a future poll! Personally, I prefer Ozu's Late Spring (1949), but Tokyo Story is the best starting point for his type of cinema.

2024-02-28 07:20:06 +0000 UTCWith how much you loved A Fistful of Dollars, Yojimbo is really a must-watch. You're going straight to cinephile jail if you don't watch it. That said, Amelie is great too and it might lead to some of the director's other great movies like Delicatessen.

2024-02-28 06:55:11 +0000 UTCFew suggestions for next foreign film poll The Diving Bell and the Butterfly(2007) [also based on a true story] Akira(1988) [also good for an animated poll] Let the Right One In(2008)

2024-02-28 06:52:01 +0000 UTCI hope you guys can watch "Once" at some point. It's a great musical.

2024-02-28 06:29:25 +0000 UTCCity of God is great, but personal vote has to be Downfall, which has to have the best performance of anybody ever playing Hitler in the bunker. I still see his hand shaking as he pulls off his glasses....

2024-02-28 06:14:27 +0000 UTCRun Lola Run! PERIOD!!

Domino
2024-02-28 06:01:19 +0000 UTCThe Intouchables (2011 - French) voting for society of the snow though because I haven't seen it but know of the true story behind it and kind of want to see your reactions. Lol
