Big (1988) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Big (1988) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Even as a kid I found the locker room scene and 'kidnapping' aspect really creepy. It would have made more sense that he was going off to summer camp or something so his parents didn't miss him but he still had a deadline to be home in 6 weeks. Also his girlfriend totally should have become young again because nobody enjoys their teen years but having done it once it would so much fun to be young again.

This movie was the movie that made me think studio apartments were awesome. I was like "what!! He gets all that open space??" :D

Alex

Unfortunately, I never got to see this as a kid (I was already 20 when it came out 😌) , but it was good to see the perspective of someone who saw it as a kid then seeing it again as an adult. I seem to recall the director Penny Marshall saying in some interview that the kid actor who played young Josh was on set with all the scenes with Tom Hanks. He would play the scene and then Tom Hanks would play the scene, using the kids performance as a guide (And obviously his own acting skills). There is also a rumor of an alternate ending in which a kid Susan shows up as a new student in Josh’s class— but Penny Marshall denied any such scene was written or filmed. It is likely confusion of Big with another “Body Swap” movie (don’t remember the title).

Yay! I hope you'll react to all three (Splash, 13 Going On 30, and Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead). I'm glad Daniel hasn't seen the last one. Since you've seen it, Sam, I think you'll agree 13 Going On 30 is a gender-reversed Big. Much as I love this movie, I actually like 13 Going On 30 better. My suggestion: Don't tell Daniel what it is until after you react to it, if you do. That movie is far more fun if you go in blind.

He said he hasn’t seen it! 🤯 -Sam

Aww I love that date idea! I think that’s a great idea to do every so often! Get away from the stresses of adult life -Sam

Hahaha yes! He was so scary! -Sam

He played the childlike character so well! -Sam

He was!! -Sam

I haven’t seen Splash! Definitely some more Tom Hanks and some more coming of age would be awesome! I have to ask Daniel if he’s seen 13 Going on 30, but I have and it’s great! I don’t think either of us have seen Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s dead! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Hahaha definitely changes perspective as we age! -Sam

Hope you enjoyed, Brian! -Sam

Watching this really kind of had the same effect on me that he had on the girl in the movie on their date. I think everyone should go and play in a toy store at least once every six months.. It's sad that Toys R Us closed down because that was such an amazing store. Walmart has a great toy section, but it's such a larger store. It's also a great place to go as part of a first date.

Alex

Absolutely!

The funny thing about him thinking Zoltar was creepy, I think if this story was made in the 90s I feel like it would so be an “Are You Afraid of the Dark” episode 😂

WhitneyG

I loved this movie. It sky rocketed Tom Hanks career.

Great Reaction Guys !! Love it !!! Next Tom Hanks please "Turner and Hooch " from 1989!!! You will love it

Florian Meier

Gotta give a shout out to Josh's homeboy! He was a real one.

flynhwn

Fun reaction, I can't wait for you to react to A League of Their Own!

Jen Barnes

I find it funny that for decades no one seemed to think much about the dark aspects of this story. I never heard anyone mention any of it till recently.

Love this reaction, guys. This movie is a classic, and not everyone warms up to it, so I'm glad you guys did. I would totally be down for watching Daniel react to Splash, Sam. I think you said you saw it and Daniel didn't. Also, unless both of you have already seen it, you've got to react to a movie called Thirteen Going on Thirty. It's a brilliantly done film I think you guys would love. Oh, and also, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. That's a fun summer movie, from the 90s.

In Josh’s defense he just had a birthday. J/K🤣🤣 Seriously, BIG is a classic and I grew up watching it a million times. It wasn’t till I was in high school that I was like “Hold up, Susan is like in her mid-late 20s, and Josh is like 12-13.” 🤦🏽‍♂️🤣🤣

Nice and I’m off tonight 👍🏾
